Haven't had a pet reptile in over a decade and can't wait to be a keeper again. He has a slight kink at the base of his tail, the guy at the rescue believes it's from metabolic bone disease from when he was little so any advice for what to keep an eye on there would be much appreciated.
I’m going out of town for Xmas for 8 days and bc it’s the holidays it’s so hard to find anyone around to watch my little guy!!! Any advice?
Posting this for a friend, what industrial racks can you put multiple 18x18x36 enclosures on?
two times now i’ve pulled a mushroom out of my cresties enclosure in the same spot. i have no idea how spores would have gotten into the tank except for if they came in the soil or on one of the wood pieces. how do i stop this from happening?? the photo is the first one i pulled out a few weeks ago, i just plucked another and i didn’t manage to get the roots so i know for sure that it’ll be back. his moisture levels shouldn’t be insanely high, i just got him a brand new monsoon misting system that goes off every 12 hours for 20 seconds. i’m really not sure what else to do, is this dangerous?
My first crestie! He (calling them a he until I can tell) hatched June 14th, and seems to have settled in pretty well! I got him from a reptile show on Sunday, after doing research and getting a tank set up for him. I’ve seen him eat since getting him, and overall he seems to be doing pretty good!
Got my scale and my little one is officially 31.7-32gr
How often should I weigh "her" and if they have developed the cresticles in any way I would fully assume that with no visible pores that "she" is in fact a she at this weight?
I'm going to be doing more reading here on the sub reddit and looking through the wiki to see if there is any info as to if she will lay any eggs that are duds and if I still need to worry about that male she was housed with before I got her.
Lay box or no, just incase?
Very new to having a female lizard of any type and any females I have gotten have been egg layers with or with out a male.
Sorry I just have anxiety about all this. I want the best for her. I love my little muppet.
Just got my gecko a few days ago and wanted to see what you guys thought about the enclosure. Give me any tips, thanks!
I'm looking for some recommendations for vertical reptile terrariums! My brother has a crested gecko that is currently living in a 12" x 12" x 16" vertical Zoo Med Tropical Reptile Terrarium. He has made some comments about wanting to get a bigger terrarium (specifically some type of 18" x 18" x 24" vertical terrarium) for his gecko for the past few months and still hasn't. I figured for Christmas this year I'll buy him one since I know they can be pricey.
I've never owned a reptile personally, so I don't know what brands are cheaply made and while ones are not. I want to get him a good quality terrarium that will hold humidity well & last a while. For a budget I'd say the most I'd spend on this would be $400.
Kid finally realized that coconut hide can be used as nest 😌🩷
Hey everyone, I know reptiles are a very irresponsible thing to get someone, ive made the best of it.
For some background 2 female cresteds came together in one tank because that's of course how petco told my parents they were supposed to be. I learned here they need seperate tanks so they're separated now. The surrendered gargoyle really had no other option and I had found a tank at a reptile show that suited him fine.
Over the years the tanks I had them in either broke or they outgrew. Now I've got 3 adults and I want to get them into some new enclosures. After a big move where they were moved separately in temp habitats I have for cleaning and stuff, 2 of the previous cages broke and they're all currently in 20 gallon long tanks with conversion kits so they're tall on their side. I understand this is not ideal. They go to the vet and I discussed my options with them but the plan he laid out was going to be like $700. He told me ultimately all my guys are in good health, despite their age, so he doesn't think it's imperative that I get them new enclosures but he'd like something where they get some more light on them. This guy has his own cresteds and really reassured me but I'd still like to be proactive because I love these little guys.
My question was if anyone had any suggestions on non standard enclosures, i've been scowering marketplace and local reptile stores but everyone only offers long tanks at a discount, tall tanks always seem to be near retail in price and in bad condition. If there's no cheaper alternative I'll just bite the bullet but thought the community might have some ideas, thanks in advance.
I was told 2 days by the shop I got her from
