No racism, sexism, homophobia, or any other hate speech of any kind.

No trolling/baiting comments/posts

No harassment.

2) No Advertisements/Self Promotion

Please refrain from self-promotion or advertisement of your own content or services unless explicitly approved by a moderator. There are plenty of places for you to self promote on the internet, this is not one of those places.

Discord links are NOT allowed without moderator approval. They will be automatically removed.

3) Utilize the NSFW Tag

If you are going to post a photo of a deceased or severely injured animal, please mark it NSFW!

4) No porn/gore/abuse

Animal abuse and neglect is strictly prohibited. This includes photos of animals deliberately being put in harms way, and comments/posts about animal abuse in a positive light.

NOTE: Cohabitation is in fact, a form of neglect.

No porn should be self explanatory

5) Use a descriptive title and search before posting

If asking for help or advice, please use a clear and descriptive title, as well as additional details in the post body.

  • "HELP!!" is not a good title, it says nothing about what kind of help you need, and is quite low effort.

  • "What is the best substrate for a leopard gecko?" is a much better title, it clearly states what kind of help you are looking for without coming off as low effort.

You should also search the subreddit before posting your question, it is highly possible that your question has been asked and answered previously.

6) No posts asking to buy or sell

This subreddit is not a marketplace, nor do we have infrastructure in place to prevent scams. Find another forum to buy/sell in.

7) Stay on topic

Posts must be related to geckos in some way.

Is it practical or possible?

I’ve been having an idea to make a bioactive enclosure separately for my feeder insects so maintenance wouldn’t be too much of a time and physical hassle for me. I was thinking about investing in a 40 gallon top opening enclosure. The candidates I was thinking about housing are:

-Dubia roaches 🪳 -Banded Crickets 🦗 -Mealworms 🐛

For a cleanup crew:

-Isopods -springtails -mabey worms

And the next question is what plants can I have for the type of insects and arthropods I have that would be safe for them to eat and grow in the tank besides giving them their normal food scraps like vegetables and fruits and etc…?

Would the food I give them and the plants that’s in the enclosure they might munch on that may affect them in a way that if I feed my gecko them,by what the stuff they eat in the enclosure it may egatively affect my pet?

Is this practical?

I do think the crickets might be a problem, simply by the sure fact that they are omnivores and like to eat a lot and are predatory.

And what thing should I add to allow roaches and other things to hide and feel comfortable in?

I just want to be able to make my job more easier and allow the insects to have a more natural way of living to cut back on potential diseases, unnatural forms of housing in with keeping it sanitary all the time. ——————

!!!!!!!!TLDR: is keeping feeder insects in their own bioactive enclosure possible? And how can I be able to set it up for them?

Day gecko tip of tail drying up

The tip of my day geckos tail turned yellow and the tip is brown and looks like it’s gonna fall off. What causes this and how can I treat it?

SunBlaster T5 grow lights for bioactive enclosures.

Im wanting to buy this light for all my bioactive enclosures so I’m able to daisy chain them together. Does anyone have any experience with this brand and does it put off a lot of heat? Right now all my enclosures are around 72°F and I really don’t want the light to raise the temperature too much.

reflective/shiny scales on chinese cave gecko?

The last few times I've checked on my chinese cave gecko I've noticed that where his tail bends his scales are very reflective/almost white looking? at first I thought this was him beginning to shed but now I'm worried it may be a vitamin deficiency? I also saw a post where it could me some sort of "scarring" from pulling off his shed too early.

I dust all his crickets with Exo Terra Multivitamin but because he's secretive and a slow eater he just kinda free-feeds what I toss in there so I have no real control on how much dust is left on the crickets once he finally eats them. (also I over-feed because the previous doors of his tank were easy for the crickets to squeeze out of but fixing that issue currently.)

No photos cause I'm sure it wouldn't show up on film anyway but am I just being worrisome and it's just a natural trait of his species? No other part of his body seems to be shiny so maybe its just the angle of the light hitting his stretched skin??

Is it dangerous to keep an adult tropical house gecko (female) with a baby in a 20 gallon?

I think it’s a baby. It’s like half the size of the adult.

Electric Blue Day Gecko Issue

Hi Everyone,

I have an electric blue day gecko. Today I was feeding him some new Pangea and he decided to jump out of off his enclosure. 3-4 foot drop and book it to the other side of my office. Total distance 20 feet or so. I was able to snag him in my closet, however past that moment is where the issue is.

He immediately started acting lethargic. Was on his back, rapid breathing and then deep heaving breathing. I called the vet and they said it has to be shock related since to him it was an ordeal. I’m the type of parent where if he needs medical attention, he gets it. I’m concerned when grabbing him I could have internally of hurt him since they are so small. I don’t see any marks or bruises and his colors are fine. But here we are 10 hours later and he’s moving in the enclosure but rarely and very slowly. Any additional advice besides what the vet said would be great. Thanks in advance!

Source of information on Sarasinorum Giant Geckos

As the title says. I'm researching options for a larger arborical gecko and of the three I'm looking at this species is lacking in easily found care information, disagreement in common names not helping. Any Sarasinorum keepers here know anywhere with good information?
