Pond complete!

Woke up dark and early thus morning and got to work. Lined the perimeter of the pond with moss to hide the pond liner and his cool hide concrete blocks. Added some fake grass and a monstera as well. Still gotta put in the last of his snake plant and his aloe, but all in all im very pleased with the outcome.

New ‘Gu

I picked up this sweet girl over the weekend, and she has been hiding up until last night! So nice to see her come out and bask, and eat a little food.

She is still super freaked out by me though. Any time I come into the room I have her in, she runs away and hides. Will this get better as time goes on?

New Tegu

Hi all! I just brought home my first tegu and I was wondering if anyone had insight on how long it takes them to acclimate? Should I leave my tegu completely alone for a few days and offer food, and change out water every day? Should I try handling her?

Thank you for your help in advance!

Tegu Humidity Help

Okay I need some help lol. I am picking up my very first tegu tomorrow. She is an albino blue tegu, and she is still pretty small. I purchased a Zen Habitats 4 x 2 x 2, and I have the extension kit and another 4 x 2 enclosure ready to put together for when she is old enough. I have drylok’d and sealed every corner/ridge and have the substrate bio basin guard.

With that being said, I am having a horrible time keeping the humidity level where it needs to be. My enclosure does have a screen top (and I live in AZ). Does anyone have experience using these enclosures? Most importantly, is there a way I can fix this?

My humidity is just chilling at 30 percent humidity currently. All of the other temps are perfect.

Thank you so much for any help/advice in advance!

Cy's Revenge (Harness Training)

Yesterday, we were doing some harness training with a new harness that Cy has not decided how he feels about yet, but he begrudgingly put it on while being bribed with bugs. We took a trip to the reptile shop, as we do. He is always up being held or in his carry bag while in the shop with me. I was having a conversation with my cousin who had come down to get feeders from the shop for his BP and Cy just urated down the front of my shirt in the middle of the shop. Now, the shop was full of people and very busy, so it was very embarrassing for me, especially since there was an audible gasp from many of the customers, and I probably turned as red as Cy is. One of the associates was polite enough to bring me paper towels and I cleaned up his mess, said thank you, and left. I have a feeling I will be asked not to bring him back with me, which make me sad cause we visit often. It was most likely not revenge, as usually reptiles don't plot like that, but he was upset with me for tricking him to put on the harness with bugs. I apologized by giving him a small amount of fresh raspberries after giving him some time once we got home. He seems to have accepted my apology. I think I will just put the harness on the floor in his free roam area and see if he interacts with it or wants nothing to do with it and go from there.

Cant reach needed basking spot temp

I am using a Feit Electric Incandescent 125w heat lamp flood light that is 14 inches away from the rhumblestone basking spot, and it is only reaching 80 degrees. The rest of the enclosure is 72 degrees. I’m not sure why I can’t get proper basking spot temps (105-115 degrees)

Snorri ate a wild mushroom, how concerned should I be?

About 2 minutes ago, as of posting, my adult blue tegu, Snorri, at a wild mushroom. For the record, I didn’t see he had something until it was down his throat.

According to google, mushrooms are bad for them, but not necessarily fatal. But most of the info I can find is in regards to store bought mushrooms as part of a meal. This was a single wild mushroom in a park in central Illinois.

The exotic vet is a ways away, and I’m not sure they are open today or will be able to help. What should I do??

Reputable breeders?

Could anyone tell me some reputable and honest breeders for tegus? Too many are spam that I've been sifting through. I am looking for an argentine tegu only. Thanks!

Bison/kangaroo meat

Looking for second opinions or insight I might have missed. One of my tegus decided she wants to be a picky garbage disposal and not like ground turkey. Unfortunately that means my meat mix for the entire month of ground whole rabbit, whole quail, and 1% fat turkey is snubbed by her.

Problem is the place I buy my whole rabbit at is out but they do have kangaroo meat and bison meat that they suggested due to low fat content. Looking at it looks like kangaroo has 2% fat and bison is at 7%. Is there any reason those two meats wouldn’t work as a good staple meat for my tegus (minus the fact it’s not whole prey)

I don’t want to feed her fuzzies until they are back in stock due to the high fat content in them.

Tegu Enrichment

Hi there, my tegu is about 4 years old, and he has an 8x4x4 grow tent enclosure. The substrate is cypress mulch and several larger jumbo pieces of cork bark, and the platform he basks on is probably 18"x48"L raised up by about 1 foot. He likes to come out with substrate on his head like a 👑...im wondering how to create more fun for him since there's just a lot of dead space. Sadly, I work in the daytime and usually only see him for a bit in the am before he's sleeping the rest of the day. I would get huge wood pieces from outside, but I've dealt with ants and fungus gnats before so that worries me. Any ideas to fill negative tent space, safely, would be appreciated.

Cheers

I pretty much know what im going to do for the adult enclosure, im going to lowes and building it from scratch, the main thing i am worried about is that the wood will get moist and rot . Which sealant should i use that is safe for them?
