Jazz, blues, rock, funk - heck even classical - the Hammond organ is just pure awesomeness.

This is a place to appreciate the awesome sound of the Hammond.

Hammond CV hum

Hi friends. I just got a used Hammond CV with tone cabinet. I’m loving it so far. Only thing is:

There is a mean hum. The volume of the hum doesn’t change with the pedal. It gets progressively louder over time. But if I juice the organ and play it real loud, the hum goes away momentarily, and over the course of several minutes begins roaring again.

Any ideas? Happy to mess with it myself, or hire a guy. I’m in Southcoast Massachusetts. Thanks

Blues organ in LA or Orange County, CA?

I love the sound of blues played through a Hammond, but I can't seem to find any venues for this sort of music. The Coach house has a B3 and a Leslie, but one never knows if the musicians playing that night will use it, or if it will be relegated to the background and barely audible. Any suggestions for venues from coffee shops to Coach house-type places would be greatly appreciated.

Leslie 147 Bass Baffle Coasting Too Long

I just picked up a B3 and a 147. When switching from Tremolo to Chorale, the bass baffle doesn't break fast enough. It takes over 7 seconds to slow down to the slow (Chorale) speed. The horns slow down in under 2 seconds.

I have been using a 145 for may years. It is much more responsive than my "new" 147. However, the bass baffle on the 145 is starting to coast up to Tremolo a little slower than I like.

Can anyone, please, help unravel the mystery of managing the acceleration and deceleration times? I am very familiar with the Leslie Speaker but this skill eludes me. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hammond A100 making a noise even when I am not playing .

I guess I can’t post videos here but I have a Hammond A100 in my studio. It has been working great for a couple years, and to my knowledge I maintain it well, keep it oiled, etc.

It recently started making a low hum when turned on, and the hum comes out of the Leslie as well as the speakers underneath. The hum is louder when I press the volume pedal. Other notes still work, but the hum is louder than the other tones, rendering the organ useless until I get it fixed. Any ideas? I am not a keyboard player and those that I know are typically using modern modeling keyboards.

I am in Montana so there is no one even reasonably close to get this repaired. I am, however, fairly handy with repairs and electronics depending on the task.

Any help is much appreciated!! We have an album coming up and I would very much like to use this on it.

Leslie 2101 Mk2 Blown Driver

I’ve been cycling through amps and monitors to try and find a good solution for playing live with the main band I am in. (I play a Hammond SKX-Pro.) While doing so, I pitted my 2101 against a Roland keyboard amp and discovered that the 2101 had absolutely no high end compared to the Roland. I was pretty shocked at this and called up Hammond, who suggested it was a blown driver. I’ve only had the Leslie for about a year and a half and I have only used it a few times. Has anyone ever dealt with replacing a driver in the 2101? I’ve found a replacement driver but I need to know if it’s something I can replace myself. Getting it done locally will be around $600 and I’m not keen on paying that. To be honest, I’m very disappointed in the build quality of the 2101 if the driver blew after so few uses but might as well try and salvage what I can at this point.

Likewise, how would I possibly diagnose if it was a blown driver?

What preamps are available for Leslie 122 (for use with 1/4") besides the Trek II UC-1A?

I'm keen on pairing my Nord Stage 2 with my 122 Leslie instead of my Hammond. The Trek II UC-1A would be perfect, but unfortunately, it's not accessible for purchase anywhere. Are there any alternative solutions available?

Hammond SkPRO-73 Patch F303

I love my Hammond SkPRO-73. As I was going through all the patches, I found that patch F303 - Loud Trumpet (wind) does not work. F302 and F304 both work, but F303 has no sound. I have done a system reset to no avail. Anyone else find this on their SkPRO?

two-manual setup with the same keyboard?

I'm asking because my M-audio oxygen mkiv and oxygen mkv are never working properly together, regardless of if i'm using miditzer, hauptwerk or b3x through a DAW. The only time both worked was through standalone b3x, and there was no way for me to assign/differentiate the manuals(both keyboards would only play upper manual in the software). my pedal connection is fine and uninterrupted so i'm wondering if it's some kind of interference, i really don't understand midi

B-3X & Yamaha Reface YC Organ?

If I already have the B-3X software, it works great with ANY midi controller. However, if I have that software, and also get the Reface YC it would be kind of redundant, right? I'd have two ways to get B-3 sounds, but they wouldn't ever work in tandem. No real need and/or benefit to having both, right? Am I looking at this correctly?

Available organs; I don't dare start the process of recycling them!

Long story short -

Very wealthy gent who's family I have the pleasure of working for currently. Organs in storage, no way to confirm condition due to storage and time restrictions - they need to be made to go away due to a house sale.

I work in recycling and will end up ripping these out and diss-assembling and recycling the component parts.

Does anyone here live in the UK, have an interest in these items and could potentially repair or strip for spares ?

Inbox is wide open for questions or comments

Thanks in advance!

Can't seem to get midi keyboard sliders to work with drawbars in b3x?

I'm using an oxygen 61 IV and used midi-ox, a software that was probably last used before I was born, to figure out the cc #s of each slider and knob on my keyboard. Only, most of the sliders magically don't work. The few that do work though, confirm that I've found the right cc numbers at least, but it's weird that the rest won't work. I made sure there were no repeat numbers on that list(in b3x settings), so I don't think that's what causes the issue.

and now I'm wishing too that b3x will let me reset the midi controller cc settings, because I've messed with them alot

Any experience?: Yamaha Reface YC

Does anybody in this Hammond group have any experience playing the Yamaha Reface YC (the red one)? I understand that this little guy features drawbars and although smaller keys, really punches above it's weight class as a legitimate B-3 alternative. Anyone have any experience here? Thanks!!

Leslie or organ sound issue?

Can anyone please help identify the source or likely cause of this buzzing/distortion I get from my 122 when playing certain notes? The sound is only apparent when playing around E, moreso on lower octaves. I can’t tell if it’s perhaps something loose and resonating with those frequencies or it’s some electronic. I would appreciate any help!

Can someone help troubleshoot no sound on this? Powers up.

It's a Composer series 136124 organ with the 50th anniversary coin on it. Dutch website claims it has a headphone jack somewhere but I can't find it anywhere. Sorry for the garage pic, if I can fix it, it's going in the studio.

Just bought an A100, it makes a loud, high pitched, vibrato whine when the volume is up

So, if I keep the volume switch on "Soft" I don't have any problems. But when I switch it to "Normal" and I press the volume pedal past halfway it starts to make a whining, vibrato sound. The pitch is a high Ab with heavy vibrato, sounds like sound effects from a 1960's sci Fi movie. It gets louder the more I push down the volume pedal

I am only running through the internal speakers, do not have a Leslie or any other external speakers at present. There are two half moon switches, the one on left I assume is for controlling a Leslie, which I don't have

The switch in the right toggles between "Main", "Ensemble" and "Echo". When it's on "Main" the whine is loudest. On "Ensemble" the whine drops down to a lower octave (edit, it actually drops down a fourth to Eb not an octave). On "Echo" the internal speaker cuts out and the organ makes no other sounds but you can still hear the whine when the pedal is all the way down, although much quieter than the other two settings

I don't really plan to play this thing anywhere besides my apartment, the "soft" setting suits my needs just fine but I would like to know what's going on and what the fixes might be. Any insight much appreciated, thanks

Church has A100, can they sell?

My church has a Hammond A100. Seems to be in good condition, and works well. Could we sell this? We don’t have an organist anymore, are low on space, and would love extra cash to put towards a nice keyboard.

Leslie 760 or HL 822?

I'm complete newbie and thinking of joining the Hammond/Leslie community, for starters I have set my eyes on a B200 with either a 760 or a HL 822 (I know, solid state, all of them, but I haven't got the big money right now), but I'm having a hard time to find information about the speakers, most contradict each other and nothing (reliable) to be found on g**gle...

I have found two rigs nearby, both with a (seemingly) well maintained B200's, the one with a "fully serviced" Leslie HL 822, the other with a "refurbished" (I think appearance is meant) 760 and Combo Pre-Amp II.

Which one to go for? What are the differences? What else to look out for?

Hammond EXP50 pedal

Can someone please share or post a short video on exactly what a Hammond EXP-50 pedal does? I have a volume pedal and a basic foot switch pedal to turn the Leslie effect off/on. However I don’t understand what the Expression pedal does on its own and I can’t find any YouTube videos that cover this. Thanks.

The best giging Hammond/ key rig I’ve ever had

I was asked to go in depth about my rig when replying to another post. So here’s an in depth summary of what I’ve made and use.

Background: For about 20 years I have been dreaming of a givgng setup with vintage Electric piano and organ. I used to gig with a Farfisa compact and Wurlitzer 200 back in the day (when I had a back that easily lifted those “portable” instruments). I rather quickly wanted to move to a digital alternative but back then, the only viable alternative was using 2 Nord electros. I didn’t have the money for one Nord, let alone 2 of them. I abandoned my dream setup for about 15 years. And played a bunch of different older clone wheels. Fast forward to about 2 years ago I started playing keys in a new band after covid and revisited my dream of an EP and organ together. This time I was also thinking of adding guitar into the mix. iPads and apps have come a long way in recent years and I started experimenting and eventually landed on this. I’ve been calling it “Mission Control” because I basically run my bands whole live show from it.

Details: This is a road case and stage shell in one. I have a nektar T6 for the upper manual running the organs. And primarily run Hammond B-3X, and red animal apps. The lower manual is a Studio Logic SL73 a hammer action controller for electric pianos and use it to control ravenscroft 275, and Neo soul keys studio 2. For guitar I am running THU and use an M-vave chocolate bar midi guitar pedal board to control the scenes in THU. These apps are all hosted by AUM. An audio units mixer app. There is a whole mess of other apps that I have and use with this, but those are my main ones.

The physical interconnect between everything is as follows: T6, SL73, M-Vave, Scarlet 2i2, and iPad mini (M1 version) are all connected via usb hub with 100watt power distribution. It is important to note the cable connecting the iPad to the hub is a thunderbolt 4 cable. All cables are hot glued into their sockets to prevent them from being unplugged while moving the assembly.

The guitar plugs into channel 2 of the interface and the headphones out is used for in ear monitors (I hate lugging around amps).

I also have sustain pedal for pianos and a selector switch for hands free Leslie control.

The shell is made of 3/4” and 1/2” plywood painted with a heavy coat of truck bed liner. The hardware (wheels, handles, corners, and hinges) is from reliable hardware company. The lid uses break away hinges.

It was important to me that this contraption looked like a vintage keyboard to give the mojo and vibe of the real deal. I ate the way new keyboards look on stage. I’ve tried a few different stands and legs with this and landed on an X stand being the strongest and lightest option.

Takeaways: It took a while to reach this point, but I finally have the setup I always dreamed of for something like $1000 usd. The sound of the apps are way better than anything I’ve heard from clonewheels and keyboards. The fact that I don’t need to bring an amp is just amazing. I can go from the car to the stage in 1 trip. Setup is less than 5 minutes. I’ve never experienced any noticeable latency, hanging notes, or excess noise. I love the fact that everything is modular and upgradable. I have yet to find a downside to this setup.

Which Midi - Best Organ Feel?

For all of Hammond B-3 players that use midi software, what's the best midi controller for replicating the Hammond feel? I've been looking at the Arturia controllers with semi-weighted keys, but figured I would see if anyone has any thoughts on this. Would love to hear your opinions. Thanks in advance!!
