Need help finding any trumpet and drumset duets, any recommendations are welcome, thank you!
I’m watching the documentary on Herb Alpert and was wondering (specifically you trumpet players) what you think of his trumpet playing. I’ll admit he wrote some very catchy tunes back in the day and is a respected producer and label owner. Seems that his embouchure is not great and therefore his sound suffers. I’m a sax player so I was curious to get thoughts from you trumpet players. In any case, he definitely has had an impact on popular music.
I’m new(ish) to jazz and I have always enjoyed using forums relating to the other music genres that I like.
Thanks.
Jazz Ear Training Major and minor 7th and 8va. Ex. 6 sheet music, Noten, partitura, partition #smlpdf
What’s with bass drum sizes? In the early days, bass drums were huge, then seemed to trend smaller, then Krupa 😂 then bigger for fusion/jazz rock and now it seems like I see a lot of smaller kicks in shots of live shows. Just a passing thought from a former drummer.
Hello, I started to listen to Jazz 3 years ago and just found the Jazz artist Berlioz and I am absolutely in love with his music. Anyone know artist that are similar to him ?
Hey folks, I recall about 10 years ago hearing this version of Bright Moments where Kirk talks in a preamble about being reincarnated as a musical note. I can find a few places on the internet where people reference the quote, but never the specific track it's from. It's not from Bright Moments on the live record of the same name, it's some alternate version I think. Anyone have any idea? I also remember a line from the same spiel where he talks about making love on a leaky waterbed in a holiday inn, lol.
There is a 3-note ending motif at the end of Oscar Peterson's recording of "Lulu's Back in Town". I'm curious what the origin is, because I have heard it in other songs, such as at the end of "Anatolie" by Jean-Baptiste Franc.
My dad is a jazz fan, has been a vinyl fan since his childhood in the '50s and has refurbished an old turnstile. I'd really like to get him some nice jazz records for his birthday. But I know literally zero about jazz and I'm wondering if y'all can help with some recommendations. Some of the things he's into right now are listed below.
Dave Brubeck Santana (not lionhead) Oscar Peterson Bill Evans John Coltrane Charlie Haden who is a double bass player, Album: "Closeness" And "As long as there's music " Tony Bennett Nat King Cole
Thank you thank you thank you!
Looking for one extra ticket to any of the village vanguard shows this weekend. Please and thank you.
Let me preface this by saying I've listened to the album more than 5 times and I absolutely love it, I think its fantastic, but everytime Pon Di Plaza comes up I skip it, I feel like it stands out like a sore thumb. It sounds like a pop song and I can't stand it. Is it just me? If you have not heard it I encourage you to listen to it, its great.
Hey guys, I’m familiar with Anthony Braxton work, but it’s been many years since I’ve listened to him. Can anyone recommend a few good albums to start with? Especially any live ones!
Funny story, I actually met him briefly at a talk he gave at Wesleyan University (I’m from CT). I only talked to him for maybe two minutes but he seemed very nice.
TIA
Wow! Some of the best electric piano playing I’ve heard! As a fan of Corea’s Light As a Feather I approve!!!
