I really think there is one for every album.
I'll only do Collins forward, just cause I have a better conception.

I've been decently familiar with the Genesis body of work for a while, but haven't been able to get into the albums individually - probably because I made the mistake of trying to force myself to start at the beginning and work my way through. That got me burned out quick. So, what would you say are the definitive albums - one from the Gabriel era and one post-Gabriel? Where should I begin?
Playing this Sunday 8th December at Bridge hotel Rozelle. Great local band
Hey all! Is there a live version of this out in the wild that showcases his tonal creativity? A version that can be heard without too much trouble? I do like the raw soundboard recording 6-10-76.
Got an email today that my Atlantic 75th Anniversary SACD copy of The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway from Analogue Productions is shipping. Yippee!
Anyone hear a cover band called "In The Air Tonight - Celebrating the music of Genesis and Phil Collins"? Are they any good? What's their set list like?
Even with GPS coordinates, a map, and a bunch of fan pictures, we had to rule out about 50 other rocks before finding "the one." (Not shown: picture of me sitting on the rock, because this post is publicly available and I don't like how it came out.)
What’s the best beginning of a genesis /Tony solo song?
Perhaps it was because I first listened to this album around the start of the holiday season but I feel that …and then there were three… is Genesis’ most winter sounding album. Something about the sound scape the songs create reminds me of Christmas. Here are some examples of what I am talking about:
The beginning of Down And Out.
The first verse of Undertow “The curtains are drawn, now the fire warms the room. Meanwhile outside, wind from the north-east chills the air. It will soon be snowing out there.”
Snowbound (of course)
Many Too Many’s melancholy feel
And Say It’s Alright Joe. When I listen to this song I picture a lonely man sitting in a dim wood paneled bar with the bartender (Joe) all while a quiet snowfall is occurring outside
And the album cover itself which reminds me of those early cold sunsets at 4pm when the sky turns pink and orange.
Let me know what you think. Everyone’s interpretation of music is different!
I'm counting the connected songs as one
This was my first real music investment, saving up allowance money when I was merely 12 going in 13! I’m shocked the value is where it’s at these days.
As i'm listening to the Archives #2 boxset, something occured to me: this boxset, along with the live albums and videos do a really good job of showcasing all that Genesis was about on stage and everything from the Phil era that was played has basically been featured. I was thinking about what could still have been on here as a "fan favourite" and what struck me the most is that Genesis never released an official version of 11th earl of mar. It surprised me given that it was featured in the set for 2 tours and they also experimented with it on the Mama tour.
Anyone an idea why this was never featured on either Seconds Out (where it would fit perfectly) or Archives #2? It did really well live and i'm sure they have recordings on it. So kind of surprised that it was never featured.
Additional tracks that were not on Archives #2 but could have:
Oddly, everything else from the Duke till WCD tour has basically been fully featured in one way of the other.
Further to an earlier post on Armando Gallo’s beautiful ‘I Know What I Like’, I dug up my original version that was gifted to me in the early ‘80’s…
I found a few others that are part of my collection (This is only a sampling) and wanted to share.
Cheers,
EDIT: It wasn't a pressing mistake, it was a "misprint"
So, yesterday I bought The Lamb in vinyl, and on "disc" one, the label of both side A and side B are the same... This does not apply to "disc" 2
(It is a 1975 Brazilian pressing)
Is this mistake rare to other records?
Hi everyone! My Dad asked that Ripples be played as we scattered his ashes. I have always loved the song, but naturally his request has made me dig deeper into the lyrics to try and understand why he made this choice. I have my own take, but I would love to hear your perspective on what the lyrics mean to you.
Starting now throughout the afternoon, I'll be posting youtube videos. I be trying to post favorites for everyone. Enjoy!
