I personally, witness more domestic violence against the men in my family but I’m not sure if it’s that common in Guyana as a whole.
Either way, does anyone have any stories of men getting beat by their wives or girlfriends? Especially stories where people laughed about it?
What about men who get financially abused? I know a man who works two jobs while his wife stays at home and cheats on him.
What are the most popular ornamental fish species found in Guyana, and where can they be located? I’d also appreciate any personal experiences or photos.
Youtuber "Chris Must List" is making waves in Guyana and rubbing shoulders with people from all walks of life whilst promoting the Guyanese culture and its people. What are your thoughts on his presence and the impact it is having, if any?
Did anyone here ever received the cash grant that they registered for?

I know it probably varies a lot depending on the area but how much is the average for a 2-3 bedroom apartment or house in a decent area? Are there any websites that I can look up apartment or house rentals?
The events that I have witnessed being Guyanese has been gruesome. Generational trauma and toxic relationships have lied to me by presenting an example of relationships, self-esteem and anger.
That man is an abuser, but we had to keep our mouths shut. My earliest memories were of torment. He pushed my mom to the ground and she kept getting back up to be shoved to the floor again. My brother and I stood across from each other and we continued to scream. No one talks about it to this day.
We were parked outside of a grocery store and I jumped into the front seat knocking a cup over. This was before cupholders were included in vehicles. He did something which many of them don't do, he smiled. Told me to stick my head out of the window to see the birds. He winded the window up and left me to choke. I was too young to know the concept of death, I've never heard of the word before or seen it on tv and I remember telling myself "I'm gonna die, I'm gonna die" over and over again.
These people did not protect me from themselves. They hid me from happiness and swept unresolved baggage under the rug.
I'm a grown man now. Life is the way I imagined it, cold and brutal. My life is too dark.
I am now convinced that they cannot do better. I can only unlearn to see myself.
I was just reading a little about Guyana and came across information suggesting that most of the wheat supply for Guyana comes from the US, and at least as of the 80s was through a grant program. I haven't been able to find more recent info, but I'm wondering to what extent that's still the case, and if so I'd it would be affected by Trump's recent freeze on foreign aid?
I apologize for my ignorance, I'm just wondering...
Any place in Guyana that will be playing the Super Bowl next weekend?
Are there any folks born abroad and moved to Guyana as an adult that would like to share their experience?
I’m American born to Guyanese parents who immigrated to the states in the 70’s. They’ve lived the majority of their lives here but recently we’ve been toying with the idea of moving back. I’m curious about corporate work opportunities and social experiences.

You might've seen my post a while back about how I plan to remigrate sometime. My timeline for that has been pushed back but I'm in the country until just before Mash and would love to link up with some of y'all and lime a day. Maybe we can go to one of the mash events or something.
For safety and everything it would be good to get a whole group of us if possible. Local or diaspora idm (although it would be nice to hear from anyone else planning to remigrate too) just please don't be weird lol

Hi there! I am planning a solo trip in South America this spring and I am contemplating if I should visit Guyana for 4-5 days. I have a couple of questions regarding this:
Most importantly, is it safe to travel in Guyana alone? I am a random European guy from the EU in my 20s so I know it is a very different place in comparison to here. For me safety is the biggest thing to look out for. Next to that, are there good safe hostels for solo travelers there? Is it easy to walk around, do people speak English and are they friendly to tourists?
What are the best places to visit? I guess Georgetown, but are there also other must-see spots?
And last but not least - how easy is it to enter and leave Guyana from the neighbouring Brazil and Suriname? Can this be safely done through bus travels or it has to be by plane? Also for leaving - I saw that there is a direct flight from Boston to Georgetown, is this a normal route that people take?
I would be thankful for any advice regarding this as it is my first solo trip ever and I want to be prepared for the reality. Thank you!
Does anyone know a Hamid Mohamed from Cross Street Alexander Village Guyana? He was my late grandfather
Hi all. I am traveling to Georgetown at the end of February with a group of 7-8 people. What hotels do you recommend in Georgetown that have nice accommodations (clean, friendly, updated amenities, etc.)? Thank you. Excited to visit!
Hey what is the exchange rate locally for Canadian dollars to guyanese dollars vs. USD to GYD? Want to know what currency to bring down. Thank you for any help.

Does anyone know what banks offer a bank account in Euros for personal use and maybe what documents would be needed?
My wife is Guyanese and we currently live in Europe, we plan on building a house and need a way to get Euros into the country. Western union is not an option because we would lose a lot of money on the unfavorable exchange rate.
Is it true?
