Hey! Does anyone know about any good business that offer tours for snorkeling Caye Caulker? And what should one expect to pay for a half/full day snorkeling? Thanks! :-)
Looking to travel to Belize in May with myself, wife and 2 year old. We were thinking of Placencia, but we are open to other areas. Any recommendations on lodging and shuttle service would be very helpful. We probably want to put our son in daycare or with a baby sitter a couple days so we can explore whichever area we end up at. Planning around 10 days total trip. Thanks in advance for any advice!
Hi there! I'm flying down for a two month internship on Monday and was wondering if y'all had any idea whether I could bring a small amount of dried fruit and nuts as snacks. I'm going to be somewhere pretty remote and won't have a car so supplies will be hard to come by. Some sources say yes, some say you need a permit, and some say no.
Thanks! Edit: I did check out the post from a month ago about this but OP deleted it so I'm not sure which foods they asked about and which were said to be okay. Also, what do you think about a couple chocolate bars?
Hello,
My fiance and I are planning our honeymoon for 4/13-4/21. We have been looking into Belize because it is a beautiful country, and we love that we can explore the mountains and enjoy the beach. We chose those dates because it is the week after our wedding, but later realized that it is the week before Easter. I know that Easter celebration is often a big deal in much of the region. Is it a bad idea to choose to visit Belize during this time? Thank you in advance for any advice youay have.
I'm considering booking a stay at the Village Inn in Placencia. The reviews I see are all pretty old, and I don't see it active anymore on Vrbo/etc. Can anyone confirm that it is still an active and decent place to stay? Thanks!
Good afternoon.
I am traveling from the U.S. Virgin Islands. I am very interesting in checking out San Ignacio because of its geographical location, safety, cultural heritage, and cheapness of its accommodations. For ayo Belizeans unfamiliar with the USVI, we are also part of the Anglophone Caribbean. Because of this, I am looking for recommendations in Belize for trusted spots for other Caribbean people traveling to Belize for the culture and vibes.
I was wondering if there are any bars, nightclubs, or lounges in San Ignacio that are known for catering to locals that play Soca/Bouyon/ Dancehall? Are there any special fetes/limes during February?
What is the best spot for West Indian food in San Ignacio? I’d really love some recs for stew chicken, fry jack, oxtail, saltfish, and Johnny cake.
What experiences would ayo recommend tourists like me do to support the local economy?
How safe is it to walk alone at night if I stay near the city center?
Anyways, give thanks for the recs 🙏🏻
Hey! We need one more person to join a three day two night sailing trip from Caye Caulker to Dangriga stating on 2nd and ending on 4th. Should be a great group! Let me know if you want to join us $500!
Visiting Belize in a few days and have the popular all day ATM tour booked. Our tour offers a list of pickup spots in SI that are mostly hotel locations, but we're staying 30-45min out of SI and had planned to drive in with our rental car.
I reached out to our tour group asking for their recommendation but haven't heard back. Basically looking for any insight on what to expect driving in and where we can park our rental for 8-10 hours.
One of the pickup locations is close to the SI Welcome Center, is it safe to assume there would be parking available there?
My trip is in April.... did not realize this is spring break until after paying for the flight. Rental car seems to be very expensive compared the the US. I plan to visit Hopkins, Plascencia, Ambergris Caye, Caye Caulker & San Pedro. That could change between now and then, adding a place, deciding not to visit one I listed.
Reading through the forum it seems it may be more cost efficient to just rely on other means of transportation rather than renting a vehicle for the time I will be there, 12 days, 11 nights.
What do you guys think that have visited Belize or even those of you that live there? I know the places I listed are basically from one end of the country to the other end and I am okay with that. I have started booking places to stay in a couple of the places I listed and just wondering if I would come out better just relying on other means of transportation instead of a rental car from the airport.
How loud is the bar across the street, particularly late at night. I have seen some reviews about it being an issue.
Is it every night or weekends only, typically? What about around Christmas?
I'm coming down for a week and a bit and have a bunch of dives booked, but wondering what the snorkeling is like from shore in the Cayes? Is it worth it to bring my fins and snorkel to go snorkeling from shore in my off time? (Bringing my own mask anyway)
Hello all, Need some recommendations for a trip I'm taking with my significant other in likely June to Belize, more specifically San Pedro. I'd prefer to stay at a smaller resort just because of the amount of people, BUT am not opposed to it, if it has my other preferences.
Are there any beaches with bars on them, like I can get out of my chair walk 50 feet and get a Pina Colada.
What are others recommendations for stuff to do IN town.
I've seen Cave activities and that sounds wonderful, but am finding mixed information on it being mainland vs the island.
4)Are there some resorts you'd avoid? Ive seen some good pricing and some horrible pricing.
Thank you for your help,
Also side note: We plan on spending roughly 3 days there and then want to go inland to San Ignacio and into GM to see Tital. Any recommendations/travel stay packages are welcomed for that as well.
Hi.
I'm giving some consideration to retiring in Belize in a couple of years. So I'm starting to plan trips to check it out. I've never been before.
I understand that vacation is short and living there won't be like that necessarily, but I just mainly wanted to get the lay of the land.
At this point I'm down to Placencia or Ambergris Caye for my first trip. It looks like lodging will be slightly easier to find in Ambergris Caye, so I was leaning that way. But I recently read someone else's advice that Placencia is better for retirement. I know I have to look at everything and stay longer, etc., But does anyone have any opinions as to which of those two areas would be better for long-term living and retirement? For a first trip?
At some point my goal is to be near the beach or on the water with a boat. Thanks
I am taking my first trip to Belize in about a month and am looking for dive shop recommendations. I'm already a certified open water diver, so I'm not looking for classes, just dive trips/tours. I'll also be renting equipment.
I'm staying at Corona Del Mar. Any recommendations for dive shops in that area, preferably one that could come pick me up or I could meet within walking distance?
Thanks.
We are at Toronto airport and our flight to BZE is very much delayed. Looks like we won’t arrive until 2am and we have a booking at Sleeping Giant for tonight. Already cancelled our car rental and booked a driver but that may not work out with our longer than expected delay. Suggestions for options to stay near the airport tonight?
Hello everyone,
I run an accounting business in USA and am seriously considering using a BPO in Belize. I have an appointment with a company called Acquity but looking to see if anyone knows other good ones.
I'm looking to hire 5-10 people to start and then expand to 30 by end of year. Customer service, tracking down tax prep documents and answering basic questions.
If it goes really well then maybe build a satellite office there.
I'm going to plan a a visit with my partners this month so any hotel recommendations will be greatly appreciated.
My flight is booked, rental car is reserved, there are five cities/towns I want to visit to consider moving to Belize from the US.
I am self employed and can work remotely. Lately I feel like I am falling into a depression. Was very excited about my trip six months ago when the trip started taking shape. I have really no friends here at home, no debt, no family, social circles, really nothing but work, home, internet, and television.
Had a conversation with a friend tonight and said I may get on the plane and just not come back. Really all I need to do for visa renewals is continue to show like $2k a month income right?
I’m sure I will come back home and visit again during “rainy” season to make certain this is a move I really want make. As I said, nothing holding me back.
Anyone…. Expats and such have any experience with a situation similar to what I am halfway explaining? I’m trying to get excited about my trip again as it is sneaking up on me and I hadn’t even booked accommodations yet.
Had an amazing time visiting over Christmas. I buy a piece of art in every country I travel too and always from a local artist. I asked everyone in San Ignacio for recommendations on where to buy art but kept getting lead to dead ends.
Would love to support a local artist and order a painting or print of a Mayan site or some Mayan inspired art.
Any recommendations or if you’re a LOCAL artist feel free to send photos of any pieces you have that you want to sale a print of.
What are the recurring annual costs of owning a home in Belize? I realize there's a wide range based on location and lifestyle, just trying to get a general idea. For example things like annual property tax (outside the city, not in town), electric on grid, butane. Does Beleize do homeowners insurance?
I know there's a lot more that goes into living in Beleize, this is just the specific question we are stuck on at the moment.
Do i need to book the watertaxi in advance, or can i just show up and jump on. from Belize city to caye caulker
My family and I loved Belize it is a beautiful country and the people were very welcoming and friendly. I think the people really made the country for me. We spent 3 weeks there, 9 days in San Ignacio, 1 overnight at the zoo, and then the rest of our time in hopkins. Would recommend all 3. Actually wish we had scheduled another night at the zoo, we really liked it there. I would say 2 nights is enough. I gotta say the food pretty much everywhere we went was delicious. From Street vendors to upscale restaurants. Honestly felt like I could have stayed much longer. Hope to go back another day
Also wanted to give a shout out to Oscar. He provided a ride for us from the zoo to Hopkins and then Hopkins to the airport. Prices were reasonable and the ride was clean and safe/ comfortable. He went above and beyond to make sure our trip went well. Anybody traveling to Belize I highly recommend getting in touch with Oscar for your transportation needs. Reach out to him a little in advance he is pretty booked most of the time. +501 613-6030 he provides transportation all around Belize. U/Belizeroadrunner
