Fresh Milk & Eggs?

Just arrived to Barbados today for the next 7 nights. We have an airbnb in bridgetown and went to A1 supermarket to pick up some supplies. I couldn't find any fresh Milk or eggs. Any suggestions on where I could find them? The UHT stuff tastes like sour milk to me.

Does Paynes Beach have chair and umbrella rentals?

Hi all, thanks so much for answering my other questions. The replies I have received so far have really made my time in beautiful Barbados so much better!

So again, tia. We’d like to go to Paynes but need to know if we can rent chairs.

Thank you!

Using gas for first time in a while

We have tall green Rubigas canisters at our rental house. Two for the stove (which I use once or twice a day) and three hooked up to our emergency generator.

Is there a way to tell when they’re getting empty? How long do they usually last? And is there a delivery service to replace them? We’re in St. Philip.

Our landlady will help with this I’m sure, I’ve just been asking her for a lot of help lately so trying to do some research first on my own. 🕵🏻‍♀️

Good resources for Villa

I work for someone non local who has just purchased a villa and intends to both use it personally as well as occasionally put it on Airbnb. We have a long list of renovations and improvements to make but have found it challenging to navigate as non-locals.

Anyone have thoughts here on how we could tackle this?

One example is we are trying to get automated blinds or drapes installed (drapes that open via phone app or similar) at the villa but have come up empty. We are largely trying to to make the villa “smart” and implement as many smart devices as we can.

What's the must have dish?

Visiting for the first time in April with my family, can't wait to see your beautiful island! What's a typical dish that you would recommend not missing? Something unique to Barbados perhaps?

Is polo still on?

Hi, tia.. it has been raining pretty hard this morning. Does that usually result in polo being cancelled in the afternoon?

The taxi is going to be expensive so don’t want to go only to find out it’s not happening.

Where is the best place to follow the status?

Thank you.

Six Nations Rugby

Hi.

Here from Scotland and having a wonderful time. Made to feel welcome and enjoying great food and probably a little too much rum!

Would love to catch the six nations rugby on Saturday. Brought a Scotland T-shirt to wear and everything!

Happy to travel anywhere along the west coast of the island. I have seen posts from a year ago or more about bars that might show the rugby but know that venues change. The Scotland game KO at 1015 on Saturday morning.

Does anyone have recommendations for where to catch the game and (because of my girlfriend’s allegiances) the Ireland v England game later the same day?

Thank you.

Hotel Recommendation - 1 night in Bridgetown

I'll be visiting with my family (kids 7 & 11). We arrive late and won't check-in to rental property (north of Mullins) until the next day late afternoon.
I was thinking to stay near town the night of arrival so that the next morning/afternoon I could see some historic things like St. Mary's, Parliament, Independence Square. Any recommendations on where to stay for that one night that is pretty close to those sights?
Thanks in advance.

Banks... Since when???

Was at Chillin' & Grillin' last night and ordered a couple of Banks to start. My bottle said 'since 1955',
my wife's bottle said ' since 1956' The Banks website says they started in 1961.

it's been refreshing me 'since 2025' 😂

Visiting early April questions

Thanks in advance for your help. My husband and I visited Barbados on a cruise and realized we needed more time to explore the beauty of the island, enjoy the food and experience more time on the gorgeous beaches. I hatched a plan to visit in early April, staying near St. Lawrence Gap in either a small hotel or apartment. I just remembered that Barbados has been plagued with the seaweed issue that we've come across in Mexico. Our fear is that April on the southern part of the island might be an issue.

Can anyone advise? I know there is no guarantee it will or will not be there but I also don't want to make a poor choice, we could always put our visit off to December or January. Also would it be better if we do choose to come in April to look to stay in the western part of the island instead to have a better shot of avoiding the weeds?

Thanks again.

Potential new Mods and suggestions for improvements of the subreddit

Reddit had recently suggested /u/Suspicious_Name_656 and /u/bajanstep as the subreddit really does need more active mods to fill it out.

Any objections to them becoming mods?

Also I'd take this post to ask about any other suggestions for improvements of the subreddit.

I know I haven't been taking the most care of it. I exclusively use the old reddit UI on desktop (and relay for reddit before reddit killed it). So I have no idea what the new UI and the Barbados subreddit look like.

Mobile WiFi rental

Hello I'm visiting Barbados with my family for the first time. Unfortunately my wife needs to work and needs a solid WiFi for work / Zoom meetings.

I understand Barbados has pretty decent WiFi in public places and hotels, but we are also looking to rent a mobile WiFi as a back-up, in case WiFi connection at our hotels is sub-par.

Does anyone know of a decent rental mobile WiFi in Barbados? Or is it better to get one in our home country (I'm coming from U.S.)? Your experience / thoughts would be appreciated!

"Cow Itch" Mullins Bay?

Hi Guys, Anyone been experience some itchiness down by Mullins. Seems there may be some "cow itch" vine blowing down wind. Any idea how long this usually lasts, the little one is scratching her legs like crazy!. Trying to keep the windows closed and not too much exposure on the balcony outside for her. Also, any ideas for soothing the itchiness, aloe/camomile work?
