Margaritaville vs British Colonial vs Paradise Island

Hello! My gf and I will be in the Bahamas in February for 6 nights and are looking for advice on where to stay. Would love some unfiltered opinions on margaritaville and British Colonial, and is it that much nicer out on Paradise Island?

Thanks!

A Nation's Symbol, Black Tuesday

Today, as the ceremonial mace of the House of Assembly was thrown through the window, many of us were reminded of a defining moment in Bahamian history—a moment when the cries of a people could no longer be ignored.

The Legacy of Black Tuesday

On April 27, 1965, Sir Lynden Pindling, then the Leader of the Opposition, performed an act that reverberated through the corridors of history. In the midst of heated debates over unjust gerrymandering by the ruling United Bahamian Party, Pindling took the Speaker's mace—a symbol of parliamentary authority—and hurled it out of the House of Assembly's window. At the same time, Milo Butler, another political giant, emptied a bag of rotten conch shells onto the floor of Parliament, emphasizing the rot within the system.

These acts were not mere stunts. They were born from the frustration of a people who had suffered under systemic inequality and whose cries for justice had fallen on deaf ears. The message was clear: authority, if not used to serve the people, loses its legitimacy. This pivotal moment set the stage for Majority Rule in 1967—a victory for democracy and the empowerment of the Bahamian people.

A Symbol of Power and Responsibility

The mace is not just a decorative object. It represents the authority of Parliament, entrusted by the people. To remove it, to throw it out, is to challenge the very foundations of governance. It is a bold declaration that the system must serve its citizens—not the other way around.

What Today’s Events Mean

For those too young to remember or unaware of our past, today's actions are not just about disruption. They are about history repeating itself in the face of unrest. While the motives and circumstances differ, the underlying message resonates: Bahamians demand a government that hears them, that respects them, and that acts in their best interest.

This is not about political sides. It is about remembering who we are as a nation—a people born out of resilience, bound by unity, and unyielding in the face of injustice.

To the Youth: Learn from This Moment

To those born in a time of relative peace, take this as a call to educate yourselves. Understand our history, the struggles of those who came before us, and the sacrifices made for the freedoms we enjoy today. Speak up, ask questions, and demand accountability. Democracy is not a gift; it is a responsibility.

Moving Forward

As we reflect on the events of today, let us channel the passion of our ancestors. Let us not only demand change but also embody the values of integrity, courage, and unity. Let this moment inspire us to engage in constructive dialogue, participate in our democracy, and honor the sacrifices that shaped our nation.

The future of The Bahamas belongs to all of us. Let us rise to the occasion.

What’s the weather like in March?

Hi everyone, first time traveler looking to visit (Nassau) for my birthday (first week of march). Was doing some googling but the answers are pretty inconsistent regarding the weather around that time. Some sources said it was more on the chilly/rainy side (high 60s/low 70s) and others say consistently in the 80s.

Obviously weather will fluctuate but I’d hate to go there for the main purpose of relaxing on the beach and get rained on lol. I’ll only be there for a few days

Please help a yank with some info.

We arrive at the Royal Caribbean cruise port on December 24th. We want to take a taxi from the cruise port to Baha Mar and back. We have taken taxis in Mexico where you never get in the taxi until you negotiate a price. Is it the same in the Bahamas? I don’t want to be a rude guest. But I don’t want to be taken advantage of.

Liquor only found in the Bahamas

I’ll be taking a cruise to the Bahamas in January, I am wondering what is the most popular liquor I could bring back to the states that I could only buy in the Bahamas? We are visiting Half Moon Cay, Nassau and Freeport.

Solo travelling in Nassau

Hey there!

Hope everyone's doing fine. I'll visit Nassau from Toronto the next weekend (6 - 8 december) and I'm gonna be just by myself.
I'm an experienced traveller myself but I'd like to ask the locals a few questions to make my stay more enjoable.

  1. I will be in Nassau, but I ain't the type of person who goes to fancy all inclusive resorts or who spends the day laying at the beach. I like to explore and try new things. I'm gonna stay in an AirBnb pretty close to the city center. So far my to do list includes: Queen's staircase; Parliament Square; Fort Fincastle and Fort Charlotte. I'm not interested in cocktail bars, shopping streets or anything like that. Any other suggestions?

  2. Is the credit card widely accepted?

  3. As I said I'm gonna be just myself and will probably find myself walking alone at night-ish hours. Is it overall safe or there are some areas were I should exercise an higher level of caution?

  4. I know there's no Uber. Any other options to get from airport to my apartment?

Thank you guys!

Looking forward to visit your beautiful country.

Name the song pls

just left Nassau ;_; but during the cab to the airport, i loved this song the guy was playing. He said it was a local Bahamian radio, and the song was about drinking a bunch... while we were leaving an all inclusive lol. "whether its Hennessey, whether its Cîroc, aristocrat, it'll mess you up" and like " Rum is not your friend". This is gonna bug the crap out of me..

These rolls! A question

Recently visited Nassau for the first time. A couple places, had these simple yellow/orange dinner rolls that were delicious. Anyone know what you call these or a brand name? Googling didn’t work. Sweeter, more dense, and much more yellow/orange version of the Hawaiian rolls that are popular here in the states.

Places to celebrate a proposal in Nassau

Hi everyone! I am going to propose to my girlfriend on the first night of out cruise and we wanted to keep the celebration going. We are going to Nassau the next day and were looking for an upbeat and nice place to celebrate with our family of 10. A cabana somewhere is a possibility. Just want to make it special. Thank you in advance!

Taxi To and From Cable Beach

  1. Where is a good place to stay for a few hours at Cable Beach

  2. I should be able to get a taxi from the cruise port to Cable Beach. What's the best way to return? I am not sure if the taxi will return to pick me up at an agreed time. Are there a lot of #10 Jitney stations if I use that to return.

Thank you!
