I’m going to Cuba next month with my family to visit some friends we have over there. I know the situation in Cuba right now is really bad they have shortages of food and its really hard for them to get things over there. Just wanted some ideas of things i could take over there to give to the locals and friends over there that could really help them.
I don't know why they do this??!

When will it get through to these people that naming a restaurant after a murderous repressive dictator is not cute????
Hi all, going solo to Holguin next week (Playa Pesquero AI) - hoping to get out and see some sights. Any places I should hit up? I'll be bringing some toiletries etc to donate, please let me know what items would be most useful for locals and if there's a good place to donate to. Thank you in advance.
Because the Communist government in Cuba was unable to meet its payment requirements, several cargo ships that were set to deliver food rerouted to different ports. I guess China, Russia, Iran, and other likeminded authoritarian governments are unwilling to lend the Cuban regime money to feed the Cuban people.
Hola!! I’m from the USA and will be visiting Havana in late April with my partner (also from USA), and my Casa Particular host told me the entry fee for the inside tour was card only. I cannot find any mention of this online, and that seems rare in Havana.
I was told the tickets for the inside tour must be acquired in person and paid for by credit card only, and that if I cannot pay by card there is no alternative for me to get tickets for the tour inside!
Can I have a guide buy the tickets for me? Is there any way at all for me to be able to get a tour inside El Capitolio? I was really excited about seeing it, and will be bummed if I can’t go inside.
Muchas gracias!!
I'm charmed by the stickers in Cuban taxi windows. There's a very consistent graphic language; small icons perhaps 4x4cm in a row, usually on a rear window. There's your Apple computer symbol, 'A/C', maybe 'W/C' on a bus... they're so cheerful and unique. I've never noticed these outside of Cuba. Does anyone know how these stickers became so common?
So, before the Republicans, the tankies, the socialists and the anti-revolutionaries get in on this, there are 2 things that I absolutely hate while im in Cuba. I know, "fuck me", i dont have to live in the situation. I dont deal with the embargo, repression, shortages, deterioration or thousands of other difficulties that a Cuban experiences from cradle to grave. Howeve, this isnt about that. Its about how I feel. These two things make me sad every day that I'm here.
The first is that as I was walking along the street this afternoon with 2 amigas, they had to push me aside and tell me to walk separately from them. They needed me to walk down the street away from them. They needed me to ignore them. Don't act like I know them and walk the other way. We would meet later. These women were not jinetera, they were not girlfriends, they are women that I have known for 5+ years. One is married but her husband is in Mexico moving North. Yet they were afraid to walk down the street in their own country with a man that they have known for years because the government could arrest them and accuse them of being prostitutes in their own country. They could loose their children or be denied passports for doing nothing more than walking with a foreigner. They were dresses as respectable women. This makes me crazy.
The other thing that is most painful is that if I wanted to invite a Cuban to visit my home for a few weeks, they would not be allowed to come no matter what, not because of my government, but because of theirs. Imagine that if you met someone from Spain or Greece and wanted to extend an invitation, that it would be impossible without marriage (and even then).
I dont feel one ounce of guilt when I visit Cuba. I feel guilty when I leave.
I’m going down to Cuba in May from Canada, what’s the best currency that’s accepted at the LCDH shops for buying cigars in the hotels? Or best method of payment they’ll prefer?
Hola!
same as the title, we are planning a trip soon, just trying to explore (not really touristy, but it looks pretty scenery) is it really worth it or no. what's the best place for me to exchange local pesos or my CAD is ok?
also, how much would I expect to pay the car/taxi for round trip?
TIA
