Ok so this isn’t about Kamala per se but it’s pretty good reporting in terms of speaking with his family, going to Brown’s Town and it’s done by a j’can reporter. So no matter how you feel about the potential president, it’s pretty nice the documentary centers rural Jamaica: the focus of this post
Anyone know the name of the song in the back ?
We had a heart-to-heart-to-AI talk for about an hour, and he was amazed at how ChatGPT could tell him what he needed to hear, even in a deep and hard-to-express or articulate subject that was really personal to him.
I told him, isn't it amazing that this robot can understand worldwide experiences with such depth and precision?
"Wowwwwwww, this robot really knows what it's like" he kept saying.
All in all, by the end of the talk, I felt really touched for my bredren and I was happy I could show him the app so that he can get some obstacles out of the way and feel better.
I submitted this to the Canadian subreddit for another set of reasons, but I also want to share it here because it may provide some insights to other Jamaicans about the Jamaican experience in Canada, and how underrated AI can be.

Why should the government spend scarce taxpayers money on free internet? After all, most people are using the internet only for entertainment. It's not so to download games, to go on social media websites, to go on the gossip sites
Hi all! I would be interested in receiving a postcard from Jamaica.
Can someone send me a postcard from there?
Thank you in advance!!
Help me pick a good song to send a girl I’ve been dating for the past few weeks.
Here’s the situation, I’ve been dating this girl for a few weeks now. We have friends in common and after talking for a few months I was very direct with her and asked her out on some dates. First few dates have been amazing, better than I ever expected. We have a AMAZING time together, we have a lot in common, and she’s one of the most attractive women I’ve ever known.
The problem is more of an American dating problem than anything else. We’ve gone on some dates, and I think there’s mutual interest, but there hasn’t been anything physical yet and we’re both still single adults.
We usually talk every day, but last weekend she (27F) went out to a party with some friends. I was out with friends doing the same. We spoke throughout the night, then towards the end of the night I stopped hear from her. Didn’t hear from her again until midway thru the next day. Since then communication has slowed way down. I haven’t even heard from her today.
I’m thinking if she met someone else last weekend OR maybe she just decided she’s not interested anymore, I’m an adult and can accept both. She’s a grown woman, free to do whatever makes her happy. I want her badly, but I understand if this isn’t meant to be a relationship.
I’d promised her long ago I would send her some music. She’s Caribbean born, spent most of her life in the US. I want to send her a song that will be funny but also get the point across. The point being—- IF “she needs more wood for the fire” then I understand, but if she wants to be with me then baby let’s do this.
Any suggestions?
TLDR: Song suggestion for girl that may or may not have lost interest in dating me
Background on me: I’m U.S. born with Jamacian and American parents. My father passed years ago, never really had the chance to know my Jamacian family apart from a few elders but I grew up in community with a strong Caribbean influence.
I’m visiting Ocho Rios with my family on the 30th for two weeks and wanted a videographer to capture some footage of us over a couple of days.
Any suggestions?
I am US born and my father is Jamaican, mother is black. My father passed last year, and since this has happened i no longer feel connected to my Jamaican side. I hate this so much.. as a kid, my father was deported and sent back to Jamaica. I hadnt seen him in at least 15 years. But i was able to live with that knowing he was ok just in another country. I didnt really have a choice but to live with that with me being only a kid. I was okay with our long distance father daughter talks. I was Just grateful to have a father to talk to. Now that he is gone. My phone barely rings. Nobody called me more than my dad. Not even bill collectors. He called at least 5-10 times a day. And even when we had nothing to talk about, we still just listened to the silence. I miss seeing the 876 area code come up on my screen. i even miss adding minutes to his phone through digicel.. i dont really have physical memory of my dad bc he was deported when i was so small. I have 1 picture of us together, thats all that was saved from my childhood. I never got to visit him after he was deported. I hate myself for not going sooner. I miss my dad so much. Visiting Jamaica for the first time for his funeral was very sad for me. Im thinking in my head as i visit his home “Im here, daddy. I finally came to look for you. ” he would have been so happy to see me. Proud of the woman i am becoming. Shocked that i am not the little girl i was before he left the states. But he is not here. He is gone. I’d do anything just for him to call me one more time. To think The first time i saw him in over 15 years, was him resting in his casket.. i cry any time i think of him. My grandma (his mother also in Jamaica ) died a few days after my dads funeral. I had to return for her burial. Im hoping to return soon on better circumstances. I would like to have a memorial for them both.
Anyone know where to find a good rate?
My mom lives in JA, I'm in the US and I've been sending her money via Western Union online for years. I switched to Moneygram since they had better exchange rates and the first time I sent her the money they blocked it saying that her name came up in their database as suspicious. Keep in mind, she had never used Moneygram before. I called them and all they would say is that her name triggered their fraud alerts and she would not be able to use Moneygram and reversed the transaction. To get around this I sent the money via Moneygram to my Dad, on her behalf, for the past couple months and it went through fine.
Today, I decided to use Western Union to send money to my Mom since the rates were better. Lo and behold, they blocked the transaction to her as suspicious. I had to call them and identify myself as the sender and confirm the puropose of the transaction. The agent said it was blocked to protect me from fraud and to ensure I knew the receipient. They released the transaction and said this may or may not happen for all future transactions.
My mom is a senior citizen church lady :) who is not involved with fraudulent stuff. We're both baffled as to why this is happening. Wondering if any one encoutered a similar situation. Maybe her name is being used for fraudulent activities? What should we do?
I was watching the Jamaican version of pop-the-balloon and I am flabbergast at how many Jamaicans are now using the n-word like Americans. I prided myself on the fact that we didn’t use that word, but I guess I was wrong. Love Jamaican culture, my grandparents are Jamaican and I grew up with it. But it seems like younger Jamaicans really want to be like Americans. I say this as an American myself, that’s just what I observed. Sad, because Jamaican culture is great.
If you are not a Jamaican citizen, but you know someone who is Jamaican, and you always wonder how they talk like that, you want to learn a thing or two, or a phrase or a sentence, or you just want to speak like them, I'm the guy to help you out. Im nico and I have helped over 50 non-Jamaicans already to achieve the Speaking Jamaican Method. If you are interested, shoot me a DM.
Are people really not gonna talk bout the fact that Nigel Clarke applying to work for the IMF (while actively being the minister!) may have caused conflict with his duties as the Finance minister? I just think the person making laws and policies on what get taxed and where public money ah go (especially when we just entered another IMF deal last year) getting hired by a private company that Jamaica is in a exploitative relationship with should be investigated.
