Hi I have an interesting question about the Sikh religion presence in Jamaica and its diaspora. I’m a Kenyan Indian Sikh from Canada and recently I was in London over the summer and I met this black guy who I thought was a Rasta. However, as soon as I saw the kirpan (a ceremonial dagger) I became intrigued and went up to him and he greeted me a sikh greeting. As we were talking, he told me he immigrated from jamaica 5 years ago and met black Sikhs in Jamaica. Now if any of yall would know most Sikhs in the west tend to be from India, particularly Punjab, with a few other groups such as Kenyan/Ugandan Indians (like myself), Afghan, white/mexican Sikhs under the 3HO group. This got me into a whole deep dive into a lot of stuff. They’re several Jamaican Sikhs (mainly diasporas), a Sikh temple in Kingston, and don’t forget tourism. Now if their any Jamaican Sikhs, kindly give your thoughts and opinions. Maybe your story as well. Thank you 🙏🏽
For example, paying mortgage, receiving salary, receiving remittance, debit/credit, receiving tax returns, transfer funds, compatible with the most third-party apps/organizations, investment, Caribbean connectivity etc.
What I personally think are the top 3 hearing from multiple anecdotes.
CIBC: Caribbean connectivity, low fees, great customer support, higher transfer limit.
JN: Good for remittances, have a lot of operational ATMs, regulatory compatible with overseas branches, very low fees.
Scotia: Compatible with most employer salary deposit, most technologically advanced, allegedly the most secure large bank and integrated with more apps like PayPal.
What are your thoughts?
Yall ... So if moved to Canada after high school for university and used to go back home often to visit my mom, dad and brother.
Now I'm married and haven't gone home in years because I know longer have the luxury of summer breaks of University and not the real life of adulthood has hit.
Anyways, I am so excited to get to bring my husband (who hasn't been to jamaica before) and my little baby to jamaica for the first time and beyond excited to show my little family where I am from. I spoke to my mother about the sleeping arrangements. If we have any idea of how people start off with building their houses, we know that many people start with one room and then add on another, and then another. And that sometimes it's not like the houses where have an actual plan where there's a hall and people don't have to walk through someone's provate rooms to get around the house. Anyways. One of the last additions to the house was where my parents added a room that didn't need to be walked through and an ensure bathroom.
There are 3 bedrooms downstairs. One livi g room, 2 kitchens, three verandahs. My parents like to sleep in either of the two rooms (my brother has a room to himself.)
I am very happy about this as I feel like my husband would be very uncomfortable with my family walking through the rooms. So I asked my mom if that's the room I would be getting and she said yes, however she is keeping her clothes in that room and she will still be using the ensuite bathroom in the room because she does not like to share a bathroom with my brother. Now... that means she will be walking in and out of the room and pooping and peeing in the room where my husband is...
So i told her that this would be weird. She asked me why I would want us to separate and if we aren't one big happy family (she really likes my husband and thinks I made a great choice).
I literally CANNOT get her to understand my side of the story saying that despite being one big happy family, it's not like when I was a little girl... there is now a big man who likes his privacy... plus Canadians are not used to this type of set up!
Why can't she understand this????? Now she's saying I'm the problem and she's pretty sure my husband wants to spend a lot of time with them and it's just that I want to separate from them and not spend time in their presence omg.
Why are jamaican parents like this? HELP
I’m a young entrepreneur planning my future and would love some advice on what kind of salary I’d need to live comfortably in Jamaica. By “comfortable,” I mean being able to afford rent, utilities, food, transportation, and still have enough left over for leisure and savings. Let me hear it!
17% reduction in murders year on year. Curious fi know how the negative ppl inna dah group yah aggo spin this. Fake news???
Is anyone booked for Vybz Kartel end of December? I normally go to JA for Christmas as I'm in Toronto however the flight prices are atrocious and I wanted to take in the show. Does it make sense to even bother anymore?
I’m looking to volunteer during my time here this Christmas and was wondering if anybody knew some places I could contribute. No, I’m not looking for those weird paid volunteer opportunities for rich kids.
I asked JSPCA but they seemed booked for the holidays.

Sometimes only a small boat of Haitians arrive on the Island and the people make it seems as if the whole a Haiti come a Jamaica. We should be helping our neighbors.
I don’t know if anyone else does this, but sometimes when I’m homesick I go and watch the livestreams from Yaad on YouTube.
I especially like the one from Half Way Tree: https://www.youtube.com/live/976UrL4MWTA?si=bcbhqQyt66uum053
Hopefully they include more from other parishes in the future. It’s a nice likkle project.
Would USD or JMD work out better for the staff? Just wondering which one to convert CAD to. Thanks!
Anyone from Kingston, what's the weather situation there?
If you were building a new house today would you grill all open areas as conventionally done?
In my 30+ years experience, I found the need for grills has definitely decreased with the advancements is security cameras as well as overall civility.
Written by Marlon James, the tv is about Jamaican-born detective Millie-Jean Black is forced out of Scotland Yard, and she returns home to join the Jamaican Police Force. She and her partner, Curtis, investigate missing person cases, and their lives are up-ended when one of their investigations crosses paths with another that brought Scotland Yard detective Luke Holborn to Kingston.
I understand transitioning from your home country to the US can be tough but honestly why do ppl live in the US to just continuously talk bad about it. Like you've literally created a family, bought a home, pay taxes, make more money than you would back home but talk like America is the worst place to be.
I know I know you are just saving money so you can go back home and retire...how many ppl actually carried out this success story?
Does anyone know a reliable babysitter near West End/Negril?
