Random number showing up / replacing a contact when texting

Lately when texting a particular contact, their number sometimes gets replaced with a random unknown number none of us know.

This number is not in their contact on my phone, and does not appear anywhere (e.g. iMessage send&receive) on their phone as well.

I am also unable to send iMessages to this particular contact (only SMS). They have already tried restarting iMessage.

I’ve attached a video of the behavior when texting. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

13" Early 2011 Macbook Pro not charging.

Macbook stopped charging while it was still running, so I know the motherboard isn't dead.
The light doesn't come on on the charger and it won't turn on because it won't charge.

One of the pins on the mac looks a little burnt but that was after it stopped charging and was my fault.
One of the pins on the charger also appears to look a bit burnt too.

What can I do?

iMessages app on son’s iPad keeps getting logged out, even though he is signed into his Apple ID on the iPad.

We have tried all the suggestions they have on wikiHow. I would post a link, but it seems community rules don’t allow it.

It’s as the title says, he is signed into his Apple account on the iPad, but his messages app somehow gets signed out separately. When we try to access the iMessages section of the settings app, it causes the settings app to crash and freeze. Only a forced restart gets it back.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

iPhone not sending texts?

Out of nowhere I can’t send any text messages. I thought the receivers phone might have been off but I got the “message send failure” notification. Tried to send as SMS and same thing. I am able to make a call and receive calls and go on internet without wifi. Messaging only works if I’m on WiFi. Any ideas what it could be?

iMessage stopped working

Another day another problem. I upgraded to iPhone 15 2 days ago and since then weird stuff has been happening with my iMessage.

  1. In a group chat I showed up with my email instead of number and now I’m as 3 separate contacts there- friends added both my emails even though they merged them in to one contact. And also I receive messages in this group on my watch from myself even though have both my emails in my contact card

2. Earlier today I was able to send iMessage by my friend could only text me - they were receiving messages as iMessage but replied in text

3. Now I can’t send iMessage for some reason - 1 message went out the rest is not going trough. Also checked other contact and after few tries it did go out and shows up as delivered on the watch not the phone (but I know those receipts sometimes are delayed)

I did turn off and on the iMessage in between turning off the phone and still nothing it’s super annoying does anyone have idea what to do? 😖

Edit: the friend who had issues with messaging me earlier shows up in green now but I still see that they have silenced notifications Edit 2: also the iMessage sync keeps pausing even when I have WiFi but maybe the reason the battery is under 50%?

Also I have iOS 17.5

Question about making new Apple ID

Hello,

I am wanting to make a new Apple ID and start from scratch. I have too many photos and apps to look through and want to just start over. The main reason I want to make a new account is because I’m locked out of some notes because I forgot the password and can’t simply delete those notes. This entire phone is an OCD nightmare lol.

My main question though is how would this affect my Apple Card? Will I be able to link it to my new account? Or still use it on a new account somehow?

Thanks!

can i still downgrade my mac?

  1. i understand that if i buy a mac that comes with Sonoma, the norm is that i can't downgrade

  2. instead, can i completely wipe the hard drive using a bootable USB and install Ventura that way? Or is downgrading and wiping essentially the same thing

My plan: buy an Apple Certified Used M1 macbook air. wipe the disk and install an image of Ventura

Wallowing in self pity

I'm sure there's nothing I can do at this point...but to make a short story long, here we go... Last July and for 18 years leading up to that, I had been an avid iTunes user, starting with gen 1 iPod. At some point mid-july 2023, I got logged out of my account. No big deal, I thought, because this happened periodically and I figured it was some glitch Apple had. I tried to log back in and it didn't let me. I tried to reset the password, wouldn't let me. I kept getting the message saying my apple ID was inactive. I waited a few weeks because I thought maybe I locked myself out or something, and then I called support. They put a request to reactive my account. I received an email later the next day saying I was ineligible for reactivation.

I called support and spoke with a lady who couldn't give me any information as to why I wasn't eligible, she just said I must have broken the TOS and to go read them and figure it out. So I read through that, (first time ever reading a whole TOS btw) and there was nothing I couldn't tell that I had done. I've never even shared my password.

Anyways, I'm super bummed, I tried again unsuccessfully in Oct, and another time today (5/16/24) to no avail. She told me I can't just be asking for reactivation over and over. And said I'm welcome to make a new ID. I asked her if apple thinks I committed fraud and closed down my account, why are they ok with me making a new account? Sounds sketch like they're just trying to boast new subscriber numbers to shareholders. She couldn't answer, and said she didn't know but it made sense that they shouldn't be ok with it if they really did think I was a fraud.

I guess my question is, is there anything else I can do to get my account back? I had that account so long and had so much purchased music on it, it's like theft because I can't get the music off my account. I'm lucky I store my pictures elsewhere or I'd be out those pictures too. I'm sure I'm SOL, but if there are any suggestions, please share.

Thanks

Ethernet Adapter

Hello

I purchased a lightning to Ethernet adapter but when I plug it into my phone with the Ethernet cable plugged in (even while charging via the adapter with a 20W usb c to lightning cable) I’m not able to connect.

“Ethernet” comes up under WiFi but when I click it, it doesn’t seem to get my IP address and subnet info etc because those fields are blank even though everything is set to automatic.

My router has DHCP enabled and I’ve also tried manually inputting the IP address etc to no avail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Cant transfer data from iPhone 6 to iPhone 13.

I recently got an iPhone 13 and I wanted to transfer the data from my iPhone 6 to the new phone. However, I've tried the wireless transfer multiple times and it gives me the same two errors, either "Unable to complete the data transfer" , because connection to the phone was lost or "Move device closer to continue", even though they're right beside each other. I've tried many 'fix' methods on Youtube but it just dosent help.

Whenever the first type of error pops up, on my iPhone 6 it says that the process has been completed and it exits on the old phone. This happens right before the actual data transfer process starts.

In the 2nd type of error, everything goes smoothly until the data transfer process starts. It goes to that page and then shows that its estimating the time it will take to transfer the data, but just a minute later it'll say that the iPhones are too far away.

I have also tried to do a backup from iTunes, once the iPhone 6 gets backed up and I try to restore it on the iPhone 13, it says that the backup was corrupted and wont restore.

The iPhone 6 (64gb) is running iOS 12.5 and the iPhone 13 (256gb) is running iOS 17.

Removing phone from plan

Hi, so my mom made a mistake of adding my sisters friend to our plan, (she use to live with us,) and now she’s moved.. refuses to pay her part..

So I’m wondering if there’s any way to get rid of the phone off our plan completely. Do we have to pay off the phone to remove it?

iPhone let’s me install apps with Face ID and doesn’t ask for password, but iPad always asks for password and doesn’t let me use Touch ID.

I’m trying to make it so I can install new apps on my iPad without having to write down my long password every time. I’d like to be able to use Touch ID on it the same way I can download apps on my phone by using Face ID. How can I make it stop asking for my text password?

Notes app info deleted

Along with the tracking issue going on, all my iCloud notes suddenly were deleted. I had a lot of important info on my iCloud notes. I can’t even access a backup from my web browser when I signed into iCloud. Any idea what’s going on, or is it correlated to the tracking issue? I specifically pay for extra iCloud storage so I DONT lose these things 🙄

iPhone XS Max Touchscreen Issues Urgent!

Hey guys,

I got an iPhone XS Max off a trusted second hand website in 2020 and the touchscreen didn't work after about a week, got it repaired in a shop and it worked. For the past year it sometimes completely doesn't work and I have to force restart it over and over again with the side button and volume button, which works after a few tries. This issue became more and more common and now it doesn't seem to fix the issue. I've put the phone in recovery mode many times before and updated it, however that hasn't worked. I've completely restored the phone now through iTunes, however still no luck. It is 100% a software issue, the screen will just randomly freeze until I reboot it after a good few tries. Any advice? I've followed so many tutorials but none seem to be working and I'm desperate. I think I might've also put it in DFU mode before but I'm not sure. Maybe I need some sort of firmware?

Any advice or any sort of help is super appreciated, thanks so much!

Apple Watch Ultra - How do I return this to the owner?

I found an AWU on the ground, and the name in the medical ID isn't a name I can find online for my area.

I tried doing a reset thinking the activation lock would show me the email address so I could send a message, but the email address is obfuscated and the first letter is a G when the Medical ID name was an A.

I also have no Apple Store's in my area.

How can I find this person?

PD-standard varying voltage: issue for USBC hub and connected devices?

Sorry if this a dumb question, I just want to be sure I don't damage any device.

Assume I have an iPad, a usb c hub and a 70W USB C charger.

As far as I know USB A ports operate on 5V. USBC however has the potential to work with different voltages which are regulated and communicated between charger and device.

If I connect a hard drive to the hub and the hub to the iPad, obviously the iPad powers the hub and the HDD.

But what happens if I charge my iPad while keeping the setup I just mentioned?

Most chargers put out about 15W max with USBA, which is not enough in most cases to power both the hub, power the accessories and charge the iPad.

So to get to the point, do hubs have voltage regulators build in? I would just assume that the charger would go to 20V (3.5A) to power the hub, which is way more than USBA devices can handle. So surely it converts the voltage for each port to the appropriate amount?
