One of the bartenders wanted me to save the scraps from the ribeye after it was trimmed. After i wrapped it up, i knew what had to be done.
Here's an update about what PIBBY creator Dodge Greenley has been up to lately...
What's up with Pibby?
Sadly, Pibby is dead. Realistically, there will never be anything else made in the Pibby-verse. This obviously sucks for Dodge, and for everyone who has supported it.
A peek behind-the-scenes
Pibby was in development for a loooong time. By the time the short went on YouTube, Cartoon Network had already essentially passed on the first version of the series. The short's popularity briefly kept the series alive, which meant that Dodge returned to the development process, and led to the April Fool's activation on Adult Swim. But ultimately CN couldn't find a home for it at AS or elsewhere. Generally speaking, this was for all the usual reasons having to do with executives and budgets and corporate mandates and other extremely stupid stuff. (The specific creative desire for Pibby to crossover into existing IP universes did not help.)
The result of all this (and I am editorializing here as his friend, so do not quote this) was extremely shitty for Dodge. Development can be very painful even in the best of circumstances. But Dodge toiled for several years (full-time, often by himself) on an idea he believed in, then discovered that millions of other people also believed in it, and yet he STILL got rejected multiple times by the "important" people for reasons beyond his control. This is basically an artist's nightmare.
(I am telling you guys this mostly so people stop messaging him about it on Instagram.)
What is Dodge doing now?
Plug time. Dodge is helping me launch a humor company called Chortle. He and I are ol' pals who met at the Upright Citizens Brigade and worked together at Nickelodeon, where I was a writer and voice actor on Glitch Techs.
If you're not aware, the US animation industry is in an incredibly rough patch right now. (Another thing that likely affected Pibby.) Chortle is partly a reaction to that; we are trying to create a sustainable workplace for independent writers and artists. Hopefully, someday that even includes full-length animated features and series.
Right now, Chortle is a newsletter that publishes a comic or short humor piece every weekday -- including a new web comic created by Dodge each week. Here are his first four comics:
If you like Pibby and want Dodge to create more awesome work, right now the best way to support Dodge is by subscribing to Chortle. He is not publishing these comics on Instagram or anywhere else.
With a FREE subscription to Chortle, you get at least two full posts per week emailed to you (including many of Dodge's comics). Or for $5 per month, you get all five weekly posts in your inbox. (Less than 25 cents per post! Get a 30-day free trial of our paid subscription right here!
Ok, the end. Happy to answer any questions in the comments (if I'm able).
tldr Dodge got screwed, subscribe to Chortle!
EDIT: Just want to say thanks to everyone who has subscribed via this post! The support is really meaningful to both of us!
When I was about 9 I would stay up late watching adult swim like a bad boy. And I’d see the Opening for athf and be so excited to see the action (thinking the show was like opening was). I watched about 5 episodes waiting for them to go on an action adventure like the do in the opening sequence lololololol. I was like why aren’t they fighting crime and stuff?!!! Not getting the humor at all, and still thinking it’s an action show lol. Just thought I’d share that silly story.
Today we have aqua teen hunger force against metalocalypse, im think im going with metalocalypse but ill hear yall out
Ok so I was watching Adult Swim earlier this year & when I was watching an episode of King of the hill & when it went to the credits, it just played the credits without doing split ads & credits. Is it true that Adult Swim got rid of split ads & credits?
Proud to say that I got to see the original airing of unedited footage of a bear (Happened to fall asleep watching Cartoon Network and happened to wake up at 4:00 a.m. to traumatization [at the ripe age of 6])
Hear me out on those who have watched both Venture Bros and Rick and Morty
Imagine if there was a timeline where Rick and Morty came out in 2004, and it took like 3 years to have another season, it had 7 seasons that developed the characters (but got cancelled on a cliffhanger, then got a movie), had great world building, no unfunny meta humor, did their parodies great and funnier and never got seasonal rot
While The Venture Bros would have came out in 2013 or 2014 (I forgot which year Rick and Morty came out), had 2 great seasons and went downhill after the third season, annoying meta humor, the incest jokes, their fan base is toxic as hell and idolized Rusty or throw tantrums when the show name drops a product from a fast food place, has an episode where Rusty became a pickle and that becomes an annoying meme, tons of merch and it’s the most popular show next to Family Guy and South Park and tons of adult cartoons copy it’s art style as well
That would be a terrible timeline to live in

Had to show my favorite henchman some love ❤️
I remember a couple bumps from back in 2009 addressing it with something along the lines of "we've gotten many emails asking for anime to return to the nightly schedule. It's never returning. Cry about it" or something. Granted, they did show some deranged anime fan emails threatening them about it, too.
I can imagine it caused quite a viewer drop off from the anime demographic. I wasn't a huge anime fan, but I enjoyed the hell out of shows like Inuyasha, Trigun, Bebop, and Death Note. Was sad to see it all get moved to one day. Took way more time to make it through a single story arc of any show.
After some googling, it seems like there's no answer as to why? Did they not have enough licensing for different anime shows to fill new slots? Were they trying to avoid airing too many reruns? Was there new management that just didn't like anime? Were they trying to distance themselves from being a pseudo-anime channel?
Edit: here's some of the bumps I sort of remember

Today we have ballmastrz 9000 against king star king, i like bm9000 more but ill hear yall out
So, Dan just gave an interview about the show's future and said that he's working on the last 10 episodes of the current renewal. When asked about another renewal he said that, with a show this big, conversations like that happen all the time, and he anticipates that a confirmation about the show's future will happen sometime in the future. What do you think, will it have more than 10 seasons, or will it be cancelled by Adult Swim after that. But, idk, what does Adult Swim have that's not Rick and Morty that brings them big money. I don't think Smiling Friends is nearly big enough to carry the network on it's own. And even if or when it will be, I don't think they will cancel Rick and Morty just because another show is popular, networks like to have multiple popular shows running.
My favorite so far is Charlie!
Hey Guys, I'm posting this because I feel like I'm the only one who remembers aqua teen hunger force only having master shake and frylock, no meatwad. And then later on in the show there's an episode where they introduce him. Am I imagining things or Does Anyone Remember This?
Zorak’s arms are ripped off I forget why.
