It really gives me sw:visions vibes and make the think if only the live action had writers like this. Shows like blood hounds and HoN have that perfect mix of action, drama, and humor.
I recently rewatched Star Wars: Visions as I figured I do not remember much from this series at all. Upon rewatching, I noticed many details younger me had missed, and most I missed about F character, which is introduced to us in episode 4: The Village Bride. Currently, this episode is my favourite in the whole series, and I just hope that it will get full series one day (as it is not too far from canon). Anyways, lets get straight to the point, as I could talk about this short episode for hours :)
Small disclaimer, I would appreciate any corrections of mistakes I make, as talking about Jedi Sentinels is already pretty hard topic, since we don't know much about them, so most can appear as assumptions.
First and the most known characteristic about Jedi Sentinels is their yellow lightsaber. Them and the Temple Guardians only wield this lightsaber, and, F reveals that she has yellow lightsaber too. I find it hard to believe she was a temple guardian, as there is not much supporting this theory, and many signs lead to her more likely being Sentinel.
Another thing is that we are told Jedi Sentinels often were tasked with different activities than other type of Jedi. In their case, they were often tasked with administration, which also affected the way Jedi Sentinels live and percieve world. When traveling to other planets, they get immersed about its inhabitants and their culture, which we see F does. First she learns a little about the culture of the people living there, how they are percieving force (Magina in their case) and how they use it. Also, the moment F says "Magina, may you rise" (before saying "And may the force be with you") tells me her percieving of a world is much like Jedi Sentinels is. They get immersed in cultures, live with people that practice them, and they start practicing some methods of its too. Jedi Sentinels believe that force is open for everybody, and they disagree with some stuff Jedi council imposes (thats why they don't have seat in Jedi council). They also are known for sometimes using dark side of force, but that is for later.
Third thing I want to talk about is about another way Jedi Sentinels live. We got mentions of Jedi Sentinels enhancing their mastered abilities with technology. We often do not see Jedi usage of technology, which may seem dumb in such vast world as Star Wars universe (but it is what it is). We assume F mastered ability is force speed (well to be fair we don't have much material to work with), and guess what shot (frames) we get before she uses it? That is right, on her heels with some kind of technology. Many people laughed at this design choice, but I think it is very telling (and looks very sick). Before she uses her force speed, heels are being adjusted, which just makes me believe they are connected to it. So in a way, F uses technolgy to enhance her abilities, as Jedi Sentinels did. Also, in OST composed by Kevin Penkin, we can hear shift to classic instruments that symbolise technology when her heals are shown. The instruments are combined in a way which is used to visualise technology connecting with nature / tradition.
Now moving to least obvious stuff, and stuff more on assumptions side.
F master was said to be connected to planet she is on in some way. We assume F master was Jedi Sentinel. We get a few flashbacks from, what appears, Order 66. We know F is traumatised from events that happened that day, after all, she was nearly killed this day too (scar on her face she hides under the mask). What is interesting though, most of order 66 executions happened with ussage of clones. But, we can hear and are shown at some point, that in F case, somebody that tried to kill her had red lightsaber. And here we go with two possible outcomes. First one is probably more likely, as we know Darth Plagueis was extremely wary of those that wielded yellow lightsabers, so he ordered execution of Jedi Sentinels as priority. Thats why in their case, he might have sent actual Siths (or Inquisitors) to eliminate them, as Jedi Sentinels were extremely powerful. We know that F master died, but how come F survive? Well, here comes 2nd least likely theory, but much more interesting. Jedi Sentinels were those that brought balance in the force. Thats why they used dark side of force too for some activities. The cost of that was large though. Because of that, Jedi Sentinels were more likely to fall to dark side than other Jedi. What if, F master had fallen into the dark side? And the red lightsaber we see in F flashbacks is theirs? This theory is not really likely, but it could explain why F was left alive, as her master could have some hesitation in killing her (because of their bond). That could later explain why F is hiding as a force user, and why is she hesistant to revealing that she is one (after seeing what became of her master). Though, many Jedi after Order 66 hid their indentities too, but who knows. Its interesting topic to explore though.
I think that there are many signs that F is really a Jedi Sentinel. The way she behaves, the way she acts, the way she enhances her abilities and of course the way her lightsaber looks. I am aware though, that we know really not much about, in my opinion, most interesting Jedi faction, so it might be a stretch.
There is much stuff to talk about F herself too, as her designed outfit reveals some hints of what kind of person she used to be before order 66 happened (her slick bodysuit she hides under robes is a cool indication she used to be much more extravagant and basically was something like cybernetic ninja in star wars universe (force speed, katana like styled lightsaber for fast cutting, and her really slick body suit, combined also with short hair)).
As I said earlier, I could talk about this really short episode for hours, and I am really amazed how in such a short time such an interesting and mysterious character was established. We can only hope she will get her own series, and if some stuff I think appears true, that would be a neat exploration of Jedi Sentinel life too.
This post has flair discussion, as I want to hear your thoughts about this topic too! And thanks for reading my really lengthy, probably not making sense, post :D
Is anyone else worried about the lack of official word from Disney or Lucasfilm? We've had no word in both Star Wars Celebration and D23. I really hope they haven't canceled the series or anything
Do anyone have any insights or ideas what the direction of Lucasfilm would go for Volume 3? Would they hire animation studios from around the globe just like Volume 2? I personally wish that for Volume 3, they'd go back to Japan. I personally would like and curious to see Kyoto Animation, Studio Ghibli and even Makoto Shinkai do their own interpretations.
why is star wars visions season 1 in Japanese but season 2 is in English. I can’t find a way to change it to English or find subtitles. Did they get rid of English for season 1.
According to one of the creators of this episode, the Golak Inquisitor was actually originally going to be the Sixth Brother. Lucasfilm said that they should make their own original inquisitor instead.
Is there any legends or canon content that can even hint to the Sith being Abeloth?
Thoughts on the kawaii style Kouru?
