About

A subreddit for sharing those miniature epiphanies that make the mundane more amazing.

"Showerthought" is a loose term that applies to the types of thoughts you might have while carrying out a routine task like showering, driving, or daydreaming. At their best, showerthoughts are universally relatable and provide new perspectives on the mundane.

Please be respectful of others' submissions. Rudeness is unacceptable.

Please read our rules and the requirements for each type of post before submitting.

Rules

  • 1. All submissions must be original.
Everything offered in /r/Showerthoughts must be written by its poster. AI-generated content, copied-and-pasted content, and other such unoriginal content is strictly forbidden.

Incorrectly flaired posts will be removed. Very few posts will be showerthoughts.

Posts in /r/Showerthoughts must stand on their own. Explanations, elaboration, examples, or clarifications should only be offered as comments.

  • 4. Submissions must be offered in error-free English.

  • 6. No done-to-death or banned posts.
Posts may not be jokes, puns, wordplay, advice, soapboxing, or "shower commentary" (like "Ow, this water is too hot!"). Posts pertaining to politics, religion, Reddit, and social justice are also forbidden, as are posts about or pertaining to language.

  • 7. No spam or spam-enabling activity of any kind.
Spam and spam-enabling activity is strictly prohibited, regardless of how or where on Reddit it takes place. Users may only offer one post per seventy-two-hour period.

  • 8. Remain civil at all times.
Bigotry, hate-speech, harassment, and personal attacks will result in immediate and permanent bans. Submissions which are hostile, intentionally demeaning, or directly insulting will be removed.

Please see the complete rules page for a full explanation of each of the preceding rules.

The universe may not be infinite, however that doesn’t mean infinity can’t be found within it.

If Nintendo can patent the concept of throwing a ball to catch a creature after Palworld came out, then someone should patent the concept of microtransactions.

The problem with history is that it compresses time: events that happened decades apart are presented as if they were close together.

There aren’t nearly as many movies by directors where a filmmaker is the protagonist as there are novels by authors where writers are the protagonist.

When explaining English to kids or non-English speakers, we often say certain consonants are silent, but if a vowel is silent we just assume they already know it.
