Dad/daughter date ideas

So, i like taking my 9 year old out every now and then just for some fun and family time. We've done bowling and cinema and meadowhall and I need some new ideas, it could be fun things or good restaurants. I'm an open book. So, could you wonderful people recommend places in Sheffield as I don't live in Sheffield but live nearby. Bonus points if you know of any spas that accept children.

What is this light flare?

I thought it was the moon but NASA moon tracking says today is Waxing Cresent with 6% illumination, and this is a lot more than 6%.

Where can I find packaging supplies/greyboard in Sheffield?

I run a small business selling my art prints and I have orders to fulfil but I ran out of backing board yesterday. My Amazon order was a no-show, now everything on Prime is 3 day delivery, but I need some asap.

I've looked at supermarkets, The Works, some stationary businesses I found online but they seem to be B2B.

Cardboard could also work if I can get hold of some to cut up into backing board but not sure where I can go tomorrow to get some.

Plain card (under 2mm thick) is too thin to protect the prints in transport.

Any tips would be appreciated! 😊

How easy is it to use a pram travelling by tram from Meadowhall to Cathedral?

Myself and my partner are visiting the city Monday to do our Christmas shopping, and are visiting meadowhall before heading in to the Christmas market in the afternoon as well as a record store in the city centre as we always do.

The issue is last year we had no baby, so we got to Sheffield and caught the tram from there to cathedral no problem around lunch time.

This time however we have a 5 month old and we are just wondering if it's a good idea to use the tram or whether alternative arrangements should be made? How busy do the pram areas get for example, and would I likely be asked to move by a wheelchair or scooter halfway as this may cause issues as our daughter herself has a lot of issues and can't really be removed from her pram either without risking her health (that being said, I 100% would move for a wheelchair user).

If this isn't the best method as well, what alternative methods would be recommended? Unfortunately I can't drive due to seizures and my partner is still learning herself, so it's a catch 22 there.

Thankyou in advance for any help too.

Best Park & Ride?

Hi everyone,

I'm going to be moving to an area off the parkway soon and will need to commute into town a few days a week. I work at the central library.

I'm weighing my options and I've looked at the subreddit's previous posts on this topic too. I'm also probably going to end up trying a few different ways to get to work.

My question is: what is the P&R least likely to get too filled up by about 8:30am? I reckon Meadowhall isn't a good option. I'm thinking Centretainment or IKEA or Nunnery Square? I'm not sure if I want to drive all the way into town and find a space outside the ring road (some of my coworkers park around Shoreham St/Charlotte Road).

Open to any other suggestions. Buses through Waverley, where we're moving, aren't very frequent unfortunately.

Thanks very much!

Best Sunday roast in Sheffield (within walking distance of the station)

I’m visiting Sheffield this weekend to see a friend and we want to go for a roast. We’ve not been to Sheffield for a few years so wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations?

Thanks!

Sheffield’s sense of community

It is often said that Sheffield has a greater sense of community than comparable cities - eg, Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool, etc.

Do you think, even in 2024, in our globalised world, that this is still true? If so, how does it manifest itself?

More concretely, if you were a single person in your 30s/40s moving to Sheffield and not knowing anyone, do you think it would be easier to make friends/break into friendship groups than in the other aforementioned cities? Or not really?

I’m aware I’m asking on r/sheffield, but keen to hear what Sheffielders think. 😊

(Also, apologies in advance if variations of this question have been discussed already.)

What’s happening to those two shop fronts at Hunter’s Bar roundabout?

Does anyone know what (if anything) is happening to the two derelict shopfronts between Woody's and Sheffield Makers?

The flats above them look like they've just been renovated so I'm assuming the shops are being renovated too, but blimey it's taking ages.

Shops on Sharrow Vale and round there don't seem to stay empty for long, so you'd think something or other is planned. Thanks.

Centertainment Park and ride

Hi guys! This may be a silly question the park and ride at Centertainment shows 6am-6pm... Do you get a fine if your later than 6pm? I have a new job in the city centre but I drive a van and it seems to be the only place to park and ride without height restrictions! Any recommendations would be greatly welcome..

Thanks!

White cat Fargate

Just spotted a white cat roaming around the building site at the bottom of Fargate.

Looks very well looked after, so probably escaped from someone's apartment. If you've gotta a little furry Houdini you might wanna go get it

Is Woodhouse station safe?

Today experienced a hate crime for the first time at Woodhouse station 🥲. A group of teenagers shouted racial slur at me as I got off the train. I was waiting for my partner to pick me up as he was running late and I was alone at the time, and the station was mostly empty, which made the situation even more scary especially when I am the only woman there and the station is far from main road. I honestly was too stunned to say anything back.

I take the train to work every day, getting on in the early morning and off in the evening, and it’s usually dark and quiet when I’m at the station. After this incident, I’m feeling really anxious and unsafe especially with taking the train now.

For those familiar with the area, is Woodhouse station generally safe? Are incidents like this common? I’ve reported it to the transport police, but I’m also considering switching to taking the train from Darnall or Sheffield if it’s safer.

I’d appreciate any advice or insight from locals. Thanks in advance!

French speakers in Sheffield

Hello everyone.

I’m trying to hire French speakers for the company I work for but it’s a struggle. Does anyone know anyone who speaks French and needs a job? It’s an account management job and makes good money for what you need to do.

Kelham island flats

Hi all

My tenancy runs out soon and I’m wanting to move back into a nice, new ish flat with 2 beds for max 1,000 pounds a month.

Thought about park hill but discounted it quickly due to parking restrictions etc. There are a fair few to rent in Kelham but I’m wondering whether to aim to buy one long term to get a better deal.

Is it worth buying a flat in Kelham or are they hard to sell etc? I know it’s a cool location but it’s defo an acquired taste. Any advice would be appreciated.

Botox -Help me to Locate Doctor Asalam

Hi there. Does anyone know how to locate Dr. Asalam, who used to administer Botox at the now-closed Psalter Lane Skin Clinic? I’m hoping he’s working at another clinic, as Skin has confirmed he won’t be moving to their new Meadowhall location.

I’ve tried Googling and checking LinkedIn but haven’t been able to find any relevant details. Any help would be greatly appreciated—thank you!

Place on top for December 31st/New Year 🙏🏻🎆

Hi people, I'm new in town, I'd like to know of a place where I can get a good view of the New Year's fireworks. Some kind of event on a rooftop, something like that. To do something different on New Year's and not stay at home. Thank you :)
