Door locks filled with glue in Hyde Park area

Woke up this morning to find that both the front and back door locks of my house have been filled with glue, meaning that they can no longer be locked from the outside. Also a single egg was thrown at my window in the night, with no evidence of others around the house. Has this happened to anyone else?

    Is this always a scam?

“Excuse me mate, I’ve got an interview/emergency housing meeting(/whatever sounds like I’m trying to get myself out of this situation) tomorrow and I need to get cleaned up for it. I’m 4 quid short of the tenner I need to get into hostel for the night, can you get a tenner out of the ATM and I’ll give you the change?”

This has happened a few times over the last couple of years since coming to Leeds. First time I got the tenner out, handed it to him and…… he couldn’t find his change😱. Just been put in this situation again but asked I to show me the change first, low and behold he couldn’t find it.Is this always just a way of getting narco money or is it possible it’s genuine? What’s a good way of figuring out if they’re telling the truth? Should I just always say no? Am I too trusting in humanity and maybe a little naive?

Is Rawdon still classed as "posh"? It's the bit near the con club. Helping a friend move soon

So it's been a while since I visited Rawdon. Many years back I had an allotment up at crowtrees, and my friend recently got offered a place up there on the council, I know Rawdon is safe, but has he chosen the snobby side or the friendly side? He's originally from Nether Yeadon but not lives in Otley or has Rawdon gone downhill? Helpful bystander trying to tell him it's nice up there lol, lots of scenery even if there isn't many shops etc. Lol He's also looking for activities and can't drive, any suggestions?

    Living in Pudsey

Hi, can anyone advise about living in Pudsey, Leeds please? I’m looking at the area not in, but close to Fulneck Moravian Settlement. What’s it like? Is it safe? What are public transport links like? Huge thanks in advance!

    Looking for a gym buddy

Hi all. I live in north west Leeds, I can travel between Horsforth and the city. I don’t mind male or female, I’m 40. I already have a PT who I see once/ twice a week to learn about the correct way to lift and which muscles I should be feeling it in. So I’m kinda good ish knowledge wise.

Just looking for an accountability partner, something different to working out at home. A few times a week would be great but can be discussed, with a goal of hopefully becoming more comfortable in that environment and build a badass body for when I start to struggle to struggle with getting up in the mornings haha.

I haven’t got a current membership anywhere in particular, just pay the day rate and give it a go. I’ve tried a few gyms but have to say the gym group in Headingley with all the natural light was nicer to attend.

Edit: I’m female, if that information is needed for the post.

    Writing group at 18:00

Hey! Not sure if anyone's interested at all, but I'm having a writing group in the city this evening! It's really chill, you don't have to share anything or get feedback or even talk about your project if you're uncomfy. The entire point is just to set aside an hour of your week for focused writing and to be a little social.

We meet up at 6 PM at the Leeds Central Library (the free one!)

    Accommodation question?

Hi! I’m coming in as an exchange student in the winter, and when I went to go apply for accommodation, I could only pick one.

I know people have mentioned/talked about accommodation a lot on this thread, and I’ve read pretty much all of them, but I was wondering if anyone knows how likely it is that I will get my first pick.

They also said I could email and add some options, but I’m just not sure what to pick/if anyone has any suggestions.

I applied for James Baillie, and I know that’s it’s quite a popular one, so was wondering if anyone knows if exchange students have had any luck? I would really like to be in a sociable dorm, and was wondering what accommodation, except for James Baillie is known as kind of a more fun/sociable accommodation… (anything that has party culture to be honest lmfao)

University of Leeds- Spring 2025 Study Abroad Students

    Hey everyone,

I’m a 3rd year college student from the US (20M), and I’ll be studying abroad at the University of Leeds next semester.

I am super excited to live in Leeds, but I also want to make the most of my time abroad by traveling around the UK and Europe. Since there aren’t many students from my home university coming to Leeds with me, I thought I’d ask here to see if anyone is also coming to Leeds as an international student next semester and is looking for travel friends. Definitely respond to this post or message me if you are!

Also, if anyone has any tips about being an international student at Leeds or life in Leeds in general, I would really appreciate that as well! Thanks guys

Moving to bottom end of Spencer Place near Roundhay Road - reality check please!

So I know the saying is location, location, location, but as a 2 child household with another kid on the way, we're really struggling to find a big enough house in north Leeds that will allow our two eldest to continue easily commuting to Roundhay high school. We've found pretty much our dream property - the only downside is it's in what I'd always considered to be quite a rough part of Leeds. It's located near the bottom of Spencer Place, where it meets Roundhay Road. The property itself is quite isolated and has its own grounds but I'm concerned that moving there would in effect be moving into a compound situation where I no longer feel able to leave on foot to walk our dog at night.

I'm not making it up or being racist - crime stats speak for themselves. We went back this Saturday night to walk around and soak up the atmosphere and it's definitely giving 'edgy'. I guess my question is does anyone live down that way and if so, what's been your experience? Similarly, has anyone gone against the grain and moved into a bigger house in a worse area and it's turned out better than expected? We do really like the house and it wouldn't need to be forever, just for the next 5 years or so while our family is at max capacity. I'm also fine with living in diverseu neighbourhoods, but I still want our family to feel safe.

PS - I'd rather not get into the whole family planning decision process. If you must know, baby 3 is actually my first as we're a blended family 😉.

Do any chip shops use beef fat for frying in Leeds?

Ideally in or not too far from Horsforth, don't mind driving half an hour if need be, Used to get our fish and chips from a place that used beef tallow before I moved here, my local chippy is wonderful but it's never the same, Cheers!

Update: confirmed ones so far are Murgatroyds by the airport, Greenside Fisheries in Pudsey and The Bearded Sailor in Pudsey, turns out there's a dedicated website for this exact question lol, other suggestions are great chippies but you'd be surprised how few use beef fat anymore

    Butcher that sells Irish meat?

    Hi there!

Myself and my husband are Irish living in Leeds. Last Christmas, we bought a gammon joint, thinking it would be the same as an Irish Christmas ham (as google said it would be!). However, the quality was good but the joint was just different - it’s hard to explain but other Irish people have noted the same thing.

Does any one know where we could buy Irish Christmas hams or Irish style cuts of meat in Leeds (or online if not possible in Leeds)?

    Thanks!

    Self-promotion Sunday - December 01, 2024

This weekly thread is an opportunity for locally based small businesses / individuals / bands etc. to let your fellow redditors know what you're about and what you have to offer.

You're welcome to link to your website / store-front / social media, but primarily you should be using your comment to engage with the community here as part of the community. Part of that is taking the time to respond to questions people may ask, please keep that in mind.

Since this is currently a new approach we're taking to self-promotion, we don't have a set of rules as such. The existing subreddit rules still apply, and low-effort comments will be removed (e.g. Links with little to no text).

If you have any thoughts or feedback please message the mods.

    hey can you guys help?

My grandad grew up in Leeds (born 1950s) he was involved in violent crime and stuff during the 1970s/early 80s (think Leeds gangs) he mentioned a black man named "Eustace" (he described him as a big guy involved in gangs) whom he was close with.

he described that this man was sadly murdered around 40 something years ago (his words). He said that Eustace was travelling in a car and was shot at and died by rival gang members, his wife and children were travelling in a separate vehicle and my grandad and 3 other guys were in another vehicle too- he has sons who are alive today if that helps. i sadly do not know the area of Leeds but he described Eustaces flat surrounding parks.

does anyone have any info around this man and who he was? any articles or anything?

edit: googling led me to an old forum on anti racist groups and violent crime in Leeds and one of the replies mentioned "Eustace richardson" who was a "big black guy who was a bouncer" it mentioned him picking fights- this may help

further edit : find my past led me to a marriage record of Eustace E richardson marrying Michelle J stoker in 1977 in leeds but no clue if a lead

    Christmas in Leeds

Hi all, I’m going to Leeds on 24-26th (yes I know). I’d like to know 1. what time the public transport stops service on the 24th, 2. are the shops open on 26th, and 3. Should I extend my stay until 27th?

Edit: one more question- i’d like to go see the Northern Lights in Leeds on the 24th, is it worth it? will Ubers be running around Christmas Day?
