I took over r/universityofsheffield a month ago. I am working to get it off the ground and to build an active community for us all. Please feel free to come around, chat, and have a look! See you around!
I sent an enquiry a few days ago to the student administration services about cancelling my existing appointment, before I saw that there was a link I could use to do this myself. I missed my appointment because I live away from Sheffield and there was some kind of a car accident so I was stuck in traffic. I’ve emailed the student administration services again for a new appointment (I cannot cancel the one that was supposed to happen, or make a second one) but given that they haven’t even responded to my original enquiry yet I am really concerned
Do I need a UCard to collect my accommodation keys?
Would I need a UCard to attend the lectures and events during the intro week?
A fellow mature student and I are creating a Youtube channel so we can answer questions about being a mature student at university and about general student life. I would love it if you could provide us with some questions that we can answer in our first video.
Thanks in advance.
hello there everyone! I'm Sandra and I'm planning to join UoS in this coming September and i had a doubt for the accommodation part.
1) While filling my firm and insurance choices in UCAS , am i supposed to also confirm my accommodation?
2) When i was checking the uni , i couldn't find any catered one ( and I'm choosing tht as I'm bad in the kitchen lol) ...so is only self catered accommodation available?
Have to take my decision soon so it would be nice if i get replies on these asap. Thank you!
I have got an offer from Sheffield for masters in Computer Science with Speech and Language Processing. I have gone through the curriculum and it seems to be a bit vague. I also stumbled upon the research groups in Sheffield and found out that there is a very good research base for Speech and Language processing. But now i am confused if all those oppurtunities are for the PhD students or also for the Masters students.
It will be very helpful even if someone can drop some knowledge about industrial exposure at Sheffield or randomly rant about their life over there!
Finishing my Masters degree in September, was excited to spend a year in Sheffield and meet people. But as things have turned out, I haven't really met or gotten to know anyone, been to the uni a grand total of six times.
Would just like to say that from what I have seen, the uni is great, and I really wish I had the chance to meet and talk to some of ya'll face to face.
Peace out guys and best of luck moving forward
Hi, I'm a soon to be student of the university and I am considering the course of Psychology. To anyone who's taken it, is it worth it? How're the classes? What does your schedule look like? Pretty much any info on your experience would be incredibly helpful, thank you
Hi guys I am an international student here in Norway at Ntnu, hope you are all doing well. Just need 3 minutes of your time. Please fill this survey for my thesis, it will be a great help for me. It will take hardly 3 minutes and all the data will be kept anonymous.
Find the survey at this link https://nettskjema.no/a/184961
Starting this September and tbh I haven't really been paying attention. Now that I can book my accommodation, I'm tryna find out which of Randmoor/Entcliffe and The City is closer to town (clubs, pubs, shops)?
Cheers!
(Would be helpful if they had a kind of google maps thing on the website)
Hi all,
I was asked about the MS course in UoS Could you let me know:

Job opportunities
How is the Msc course in Cognitive and Computational Neuroscience ?
Hi all,
I’ve applied to study PIR at Sheffield, Leeds, Nottingham, Birmingham and Southampton but I have a slight feeling that I may miss the grade requirements. My question is, does PIR attract a lot of applicants? Is it one of the courses that tends to open up for clearing? Does anyone at Sheffield do PIR and has managed to get in with lower grades than required?
Many thanks
Hi all,
Wishing everyone a happy new year! :)
I have just received an offer to study MSc Advanced CS at UoS 2021. If anyone has studied it, can you please be kind enough to shed light on how the course is, with respect to:
In addition, does anyone know how easy it is to get a tuition scholarship at UoS for international students?
You input is greatly appreciated!
Anyone go to The Gym on the the Moor, I usually train alone but with lockdown I could do with some company! Get a drink afterwards (will have to settle with a park bench and some white lightening if the pubs are still shut), or a walk afterward to burn some more calories???
Leadmill point non ensuite double bedroom in the heart of the city. Replacement tennant needed. Dm me for more details.
Hey everyone, I just got an offer from UoS in MSc. in Data Science and was wondering if someone could tell me how technically advanced is the course? The programme description talks about how the course does not involve programming, so how technical is it? I have a Bachelor's in Computer Engineering and I'm starting to wonder if I should applied to the Data Analytics course. Any insight to this will be great, thanks!
I'd like to know how the material science department at Sheffield is.

**Research participants needed**
Hi I’m Kristen from the University of Sheffield. I’m currently conducting a Positive Psychology intervention study for my dissertation project and would appreciate your help in participating. This study is open to UK university students who have been feeling anxious and wish to participate in an intervention that could potentially help with their anxiety. You do NOT need to have a diagnosis to participate. You can participate as long as you experience one or more of the following:
Please complete this on a laptop/PC. If you agree to participate, you will be asked to complete an online study that involves a positive thinking exercise resulting in some positive statements which you will be asked to put into practice daily for the next 1 month. After 1 month, you will be required to log back in to complete follow-up questionnaires that take less than 15 minutes to complete. THE FOLLOWING IS IMPORTANT **PLEASE LEAVE YOUR EMAIL WHEN YOU GET TO THE END OF PART I SO THAT YOU WOULD BE SENT A LINK TO THE FOLLOW-UP QUESTIONNAIRES**. If interested, please enter this link to my study: https://research.sc/participant/login/dynamic/3F0A9F3F-024C-41FF-8E46-32A1A05795E4. Those who complete the study at the end of 1-month will stand a chance to win a £60 Amazon voucher!
I was recently offered a place in the Robotics MSc program, starting in September. Given the state of the world, I wanted to get opinions from current/other potential students regarding the robotics program, the university overall, especially in terms of what education will be like in the fall. Any and all advice or comments are welcome and greatly appreciated!
City Gambit would like to see what services students want for their career development and what sorts of careers you want to pursue. It might help you understand the job market. Just fill out this survey - it won't take longer than a minute!
We're a team of students who have recently developed an application that lets students rideshare and in-turn reduce the costs for everyone. It also means that drivers will get paid in some fuel contribution. The app is free to download and there's no subscriptions or anything. This isn't BS! We're only just getting started, but any and all support is appreciated as we bootstrap our way to providing the cheapest travel alternative for students across the UK.
Hi everyone!
I am conducting a research to explore how being kind to yourself (self-compassion) might be related to eating concerns. It involves completing an online survey. If you are at least 18 years old, fluent in English and with no history of neurological and psychotic conditions, you can participate. This study will take approximately 20 minutes of your time. You will also get a chance to win a £25 or a £50 Amazon voucher.
