Just started riding brakeless for <1 month and I'm thinking of changing cogs. I've only been cycling for 4 months and started out with a road bike (which I only rode in high gear, bearly shifted the sucker. ) I bought a fixie 3 weeks ago and has been using it ever since, recently swapped out my 39T chainring for a 48T one and I'm planning to change out the cogs since I'm starting to think that my current ratio of 48:16 is too soft since I've been used to riding high gear. Insights will be very much appreciated. Thanks :))
The first owner put the washer for the steel front basket between the fork and the basket instead of between the basket and the right track nut thankfully he put it in the right order on the left side so I'm stuck with just one problem... Which I have been trying to work on for 2 days. I bought WD-40 already to loosen the rust however it does not look to be working (or maybe I'm just too impatient because I just applied it on the stuck track nut 2 hours ago) but should I just wait longer for the WD-40 to work its magic? Or should I also buy locking pliers (which were recommended on some bike forums I read)? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Picked up this 55cm Rumrunner cheap at Tree Fort Bikes. Nothing special here, mostly reusing parts from a couple of older bikes. I'll probably swap the chunky stem for something sleeker and a hair longer down the road. I'm pretty happy with how well this 10-year old set of Weinmann DP-18 wheels cleaned up. I hit the grubby brake tracks with polish even. Eventual plan for wheels will be a box-section polishes alu rim like a H+Son TB 14 with fatter tires in the 30-32 range. Gearing's pretty low because you don't get far from my house without encountering some gutbusting hills. Not pictured is a rear caliper brake with full run of housing to lovely old polished-up Salsa bypass lever I scored from Gringineer. Midlife crisis build so the bars are a bit high. I may bring them down at some point but being old enough to have posted on Fixed Gear Gallery way back in the day means those bars are only going to go so low. My #slamthatstem days are past.
I have a classic fixie and it's a good bike and all but the disadvantage is that finding classic parts is hard and practically not possible. And I was wondering if it is possible to switching my classic frame for a modern frame.
Hey, folks! I have a Scattante Americano 4, 2011. Over the years I've upgraded various things. . crank (46T Sugino), seat, handlebars. It still has the stock wheels/hub on it (flip/flop) and a gear ratio of 46/17.
I'd like to upgrade the hub and wheels to give the old guy a bit of fresh zip. Might be fun to build them out myself. I'd like to keep it a flip/flop. sooo
PNW, light rolling hills..but roads can bit a bit janky. And there's a lot of double track, light single trails that I might go on because...why not?
Would appreciate recommendations on:
I recently bought my D.I.D chain and bike-washed my fixie a week earlier and this morning I found tiny brown spots that can be rubbed off (which I presume is rust). I’m worried because I was sure I dried the chain thoroughly before putting the chain lube. Are there any other precautions or steps I should take to make my chain rust-less?
Hey there! I'm new to riding fixed-gear bikes and I recently bought and installed a Thickslick 28c tire for the rear wheel. When I used a skid patch calculator with my tsunami’s gear ratio (48:17), it showed 17 skid patches. How can I achieve this many skid patches to wear my Thickslick evenly and make it last longer? Should I skid from different angles? I'm open to suggestions!
Why is nobody posting on this Reddit tho?
400$ bruh
Hello, I'm looking for a frame/brand that fits me. I'm 195cm tall and my inseam is 95cm. In addition to that my arms are also fairly long, which makes it rather difficult to find a frame that fits . What kind of frame do tall riders use? I'm currently riding a 8bar TMPLHOF size XL frame
Thanks in advance!
I have a leader 727tr that was gifted to me it’s a bit small for me I’m 6’0 I was hoping to trade for a bigger frame. This was only made once.
Is it okay to ride with an exposed thread like this or no.....?
I'm a newbie and just only ride a fixed gear for like, 2 days?, should I buy a strap?
Oh yeah, I'm at countryside, so the road is a bit rough
I may sound dumb but I am genuinely confused on what to do. I ordered the tsunami snm100 frame size M but they send me an S size frame. Can someone please explain a step by steps process on how to get it change? I ordered it on their official website. Any help will be gladly appreciated 🥲
Created the artwork in Adobe Illustrator and was sent to Dan of BC for laser engraving.
Hi bike community!
I have a Scott AFD 307 road bike and I want to convert it to a fixed gear. This is my first experience with fixed gear bikes, so I have a few questions:
1. What are the main steps in converting a road bike to a fixed gear?
2. What parts and tools will I need?
3. Are there any specific challenges or considerations for converting this particular model?
4. Should I replace the fork or any other components for better performance and safety?
5. I would appreciate any advice or recommendations for shops or resources where I can find the necessary parts.
Thanks in advance!
hi everyone, sorry i am new to this but is it safe for a rb that has a semi-vertical dropout to convert into a fixie with just the use of chain tensioner?
I'm looking to get back into riding fixed gear bikes after a few years away from the sport. I'm pretty excited to jump back in, but I'm not sure which bike to buy. Here's a bit about me and what I'm looking for:
I've been out of the loop for a while, so I'm not familiar with the latest brands or models. What are some good options out there right now? Any specific recommendations or things I should look for when shopping?
im from Norway which is in europe
I just got my first fixed gear bike and I’ve been riding it for a while. I’m wondering how high should my seat be? Is it purely what feels right or is there a rule of thumb I can follow to help me find the right height.
Whenever I stand up to pedal harder, my bike makes a loud creaking/clicking sound. Sometimes even when sitting down and pedaling hard. What may be the issue?
Im building a bike that will mostly stay on flat surfaces and on the road its my first time building one and I dont know what gear ratio I Should have on it I want it to be fast or just have a steady pace Please help
