Lightweight foundation recs for oily textured skin?

Since clearing my cystic acne I haven’t touched foundation but I have a christmas party coming up and want to even out my skin tone and scarring. Nothing much to cover.

My skin gets very oily after a few hours and I have some texture so struggle to find foundations that look smooth. They tend to separate and look awful after 2 hours and just slide off.

Preferably something I can find in boots or superdrug so I can look for my shade and affordable because I won’t wear it often :)

I don’t like the overly glowy look so products like the elf halo glow or charlotte tilbury stuff won’t work for me.

Upper eyelid concealer or similar

I’ve been paring back my makeup and stopped wearing eyeshadow, and instead dabbed the tiniest amount of concealer on my upper eyelid, and I love how it looks! Instantly younger and more awake eyes! But it often creases up. Any recommendations for a concealer or primer or eyeshadow or similar product that I could use on my upper eyelid to reduce redness?

I’m currently using Dr Jart+ Cicapair Tiger Grass Color Correcting Treatment in lieu of concealer and foundation, and this is what I’ve been using on my upper eyelid. I use CeraVe Eye Repair Cream all around my eyes, so it might be the base that’s the problem. I don’t really have fine lines to speak of, but I do find pretty much every concealer I’ve tried gets a bit creasy on me (previously Glossier Stretch Balm Concealer). I’m 35 with combination skin prone to redness.

Keen to hear your recommendations and any advice!

Need to find a dupe for Prada

Hi guys. I recently discovered this lipstick from Prada (Prada Monochrome Hyper Matte lipstick) in the shade notte p56. The shade's amazing but it's not very long lasting. I don't want to spend 40 pounds on a lipstick that won't even last. Can I find a dupe for this shade? Thanks in advance

Honesty question re lash extensions

Firstly, I have never had lash extensions myself, although I did go through a phase of wearing false ones, but never felt like they were comfortable.

I know several people who have lash extensions and they are quite obviously not their real lashes, even the less 'dramatic' ones appear fake to me, although I could just be noticing the poorly done ones! My friend (a makeup artist herself) who has since given up on wearing extensions told me that she was fed up of never being able to rub her eyes, and hated that she'd pretty much had to give up on her eyeshadow/liner looks because she couldn't properly clean the makeup off. Apparently she was paying around £40 a month for her extensions, I don't know whether that's average or not.

Now, I am very into colourful, sparkly, foiled, wet look shades (my daily wears are Natasha Denona and Pat Mcgrath, my one indulgence!) and love the creative side of putting a look together or learning a new technique. I also think my lashes are my best feature, so I do what I can to emphasise them. I've used Revitalash Advanced Eyelash Conditioner daily for around 3 years now, and the difference it's made is stunning, even without mascara people have commented on how long and thick my lashes are. A few months ago I had an alopecia areata flare up and lost a chunk of lashes, but they'd grown back in about 4/5 weeks. The lash serum I use is expensive (£129 for a 6 month supply - but in my experience lasts about 10 months) which works out much cheaper than paying £40 a month for extensions, about half the price, and I know that most serums are far cheaper than the one I use.

I'm really interested as to why so many people are choosing to have lash extensions despite the downsides, which seem considerable to me. I can't imagine not being able to rub my eyes, or do my double cleansing using a face cloth, or have to give up on eyeshadow and liner. I can understand that it saves time not having to do primer/mascara/curling, and they're less hassle and more comfortable than false lashes, but I am curious as to how people feel about using a good lash serum instead - and I see so many brands coming out with their versions now so there is obviously a demand.

Is it because you want instant results? Or feel that it's the only way to get the length/volume/curl you desire? As I understand it, most serums show results after around 6 weeks, but once you've passed that stage you have long, thick natural lashes that, in my case anyway, feel strong and healthy. Mine are well over 1cm long and when first curled touch my brow bone, and I enjoy not having to worry about damaging them. I'd really like to find out why it's the preferred choice for so many when it seems to limit the rest of your beauty and skincare options significantly. I'm absolutely not hating on people who choose this as an option, I'm just really interested to know why it's so popular now when there are so many lash serums on the market that offer similar results.

Thank you ❤️

Makeup lessons Bridal - Charlotte Tilbury or Bobbi Brown

Hi, everyone. My wedding is coming up soon and I will do my own makeup. I’ve got a month left so not really much time. I thought I could do it on my own but I think I need more help to do it well.

The makeup counters near me that offer lessons are only Charlotte Tilbury and Bobbi Brown. I was wondering which one is better for me to go to for a lesson. I don’t mind the cost since it is redeemable against products.

The Bobbi Brown store has more privacy, it is their own shop. The CT one is right in front of the busy store. experience with the products - I do like CT colour products but not the foundations - I get acne when I tried the flawless filter. The Bobbi Brown I didn’t like their concealer.

What are your thought on this?

Thank you very much.

1 year since Rimmel broke my heart.

It's just over a year since Rimmel reformulated their lasting finish foundation and absolutely ruined it. It was my holy grail for many years until they messed with it. It's now the worst foundation I've ever used. Orange. Shimmery, patchy, itchy. Doesn't dry down. Can't be set with powder. Not even it's own stay matte pressed powder. I used to get 103 true ivory. The same shade is now way too dark and orange on top of everything else. Disappointed is an understatement. It's price and performance was excellent. I used to apply bronzer and blush without powdering first as it dried down very nicely. They didn't even warn us so I could buy a few bottles of the old formula first. I trusted them and was optimistic to try the new formula but damn it's a waste of money. They didn't need to change the formula, they already have lasting finish radiance which is the same thing that tried to create with this awful reformulation.

Micro plastic free makeup options?

I feel stupid but I didn’t realise how much microplastics are in all our beauty products. I already feel really uncomfortable with all the plastic container waste and try my best to recycle properly. But I don’t really want to be putting harmful microplastics on my face, body, and nails.

I downloaded the Beat the Microplastics app, and I was wondering if there are others resources or product recommendations you all might have?

Xx

Can anyone think of any good colourful, pigmented, shimmery eyeshadows?

I've had a look all over Instagram and Pinterest and came across clionadh eyeshadows which seemed promising at first but they don't do it for me tbh! I love kaima cosmetics - they seem more pigmented in a way. The only problem is there aren't many colours to choose from.

I would really appreciate some more suggestions!

Glitter free eyeliner recommendations that are still soft and smudgy (due to allergies)?

I seem to be massively sensitive to any glitter or sparkle in eye makeup. I love the look of Victoria Beckham satin kajal (I particularly like cinnamon)- all soft and smudgy, but when I tried it the glittery shades make my eyes super sore, and the non-glitter shades just look so flat and don't really like the colours. Hypoallergenic or opthamologist tested doesn't seem to mean much on the packaging as plenty labelled this way still make my eyes burn. So I need some recommendations for eyeliners that have the quality and texture of satin kajal without the glitter please and ideally that people with sensitive eyes have tried and tested. I have green eyes, so some nice purpley/reddy brown shades are particularly good. Thanks

Help finding my perfect duochrome eyeshadow

Hi everyone, I'm trying to find my perfect eyeshadow shade, a white with a blue/pink shift. I have a similar eyeshadow in a palette a friend gave me from Revolution called Moonlit, but this more of a white to pink (better than nothing!). I'm sure I had something similar from Urban Decay called fluorescence which was a white/pink shade and then from Bourjois in a vertical pot with a brush.

Any suggestions welcome... Preferably not glittery, just shifting.

Pic here, sorry https://tinypic.host/image/1000001909.2Ib6fZ

Allergies help!

My eyes have suddenly become very sensitive. Every time I put on a bit of eye makeup I start with watery eyes, mostly the left eye and some burning sensations. I do have a condition that causes watery eyes and burning sensations so I'm not worried about any damage but it rarely happens with no makeup on.

I use predominantly estee lauder products. I've checked and they appear to be hypoallergenic. Are there other products out there that may be more suitable? That are super duper kind?

I can't do lash extensions as they irritate too much. I can do lash lift but I still want a bit of mascara or some eye shadow on too.

Any help be great! Skin care wise I'm using Eve Taylor sensitive skin range as I get a lot of redness. I'm 45 if that makes a difference xxxx

Product recs - Epiduo skin

Hi all,

I’ve been using Epiduo for my acne. It obviously has a drying effect but this is only really noticeable when I wear makeup. Even if I wear my basic, every day routine (usually just concealer) it looks awful.

I currently use as moisturisers/primers: Purito Oat In Gel Moisturiser

Coats triple water cream

Beauty of joseon spf50 Or

Supergoop spf30 (the one that feels like a primer).

Any recommendations for hydrating primers that won’t cause acne, or hydrating base makeup, tips/ideas welcome please!

Thanks in advance ☺️

Lengthening Mascara WITHOUT Volume?

Looking for a more natural mascara that will lengthen without looking clumpy/flaky or adding tonnes of volume.

Ideally one that comes in brown and holds a curl - but otherwise just a regular thin black mascara would be fine.

Failing that, is there something I can add to a mascara to thin it out in order to have length without thick volume/clumping? Any recommendations welcome!

Beauty box

Hiiii….I’m looking to subscribe to a beauty box, something similar to boxycharm in the uk. I moved here recently and can’t find a good beauty box with branded makeup. I used to get boxycharm in Canada but they don’t have it here. Anyone know of any good beauty boxes which might have makeup from brands like rare beauty, benefit, ysl etc?

UK Indie Reps

Hellooo,

I'm looking for some recs for lipsticks, glitters/chrome flakes, and powders (face/contour). I've tried Jolie and Kaima cosmetics and I'm a fan but they're kinda out of my price range currently.

This is for stage, so good wear/pigment is preferred.

Thank you. :)

Sephora UK birthday gift

Hey girlies!

Has anyone had any luck getting a birthday gift from Sephora?

Just received mine and it's 25 points....pretty disappointing compared to what you get in the US!

Am I unlucky that my birthday is at the end of the year and they've ran out, or is it just this crap?

Vieve complexion Balm

I recently bought the new Vieve skin nova complexion balm and I’m so disappointed.

Every time I try it, it seems to pill really badly. I’ve tried it with various different bases, but my go to base before foundation is the cosrx snail mucin. Or hado labo gel moisturiser.

Has anyone else used this foundation successfully? If so what base do you use and how do you apply?

My preference is using a wet sponge but I’ve tried a brush as well and had the same problem. All the reviews on cult beauty right now are raving about it, what am I doing wrong?

I'm a student from South Africa so i am on a makeup budget but we don't have a Sephora in my country so I want to try get everything on my Wishlist. Of course I'm trying to budget and plan but it doesn't look like i can get everything so far but I'm really hoping the sales are worth it and could maybe help it but i have no idea about the late Dec- early Jan ones.
