As slow and clunky as it may be, we are lucky to have the NHS as a free resource. Don't hesitate to make an appointment with your GP and ask for a referral if you have severe issues or at a loss with what to do next with your skin.
If they aren't helpful the first time, try and try again until you find someone who is. An £9 prescription is going to be much cheaper than constantly trying products that you don't know will work.

I'm starting a new skincare routine, but have not found a suncream yet! My skin is very sensitive so I have to be careful which brand I use. It also has to be 50+, and I don't want to look shiny or greasy (I have never found a suncream that does not make me look greasy!). I buy my products from beauty bay, so if it is sold on there that is a bonus.
I have found something called face fluid by bondi sands, but I'm not sure if it works in the same way as a suncream.
This product was so good and affordable, please help me find a replacement at a similar price point
I can’t seem to find this product anywhere. Please help me find it.
Hello skincare enthusiasts,
I’ve been using tretinoin 0.05% for about four months now to help with hyperpigmentation from old acne scars. While I’ve seen some gradual improvement, it’s not as fast as I had hoped.
For those of you who have successfully used tretinoin for hyperpigmentation, what else did you incorporate into your routine? I’m considering adding ingredients like Vitamin C or niacinamide to the A-ret gel from Skinorac but want to avoid overloading my skin. Also, has anybody used the Facetop vitamin c gel? Is it good?
Got any product recommendations or tips for reducing hyperpigmentation while using tretinoin? I'd really appreciate it! Thank you!
Hi everyone, I (28F) am feeling extremely frustrated with my skin. I have been lucky with my skin my whole life without ever struggling with texture or spots other than hormonal acne, but since this year, my skin has not been good.
Over the summer, I was using exclusively baby shampoo to wash my face (I started using it a couple years ago due to an allergic reaction and it completely cleared up my hormonal acne so I never looked back), a light moisturiser (think L’Oréal hydra genius or Clinique moisture surge) with Clinique mineral sunscreen 50 SPF. I was using a bare mineral foundation and removing my makeup each day with a variety of products, either an oil based makeup remover like Clinique take the day off or just micellar water. (I don’t use waterproof makeup generally). My skin honestly had never looked better with this routine.
However, my skin started to become really dry and I think it is because of the mineral sunscreen. I tried a different one, but it made me feel oily. I then tried Aveeno oat cleanser instead of baby shampoo and using other Aveeno hydration products, but I was still struggling with a weird combo of oiliness and dry patches.
Fast forward to this week. Thinking my face was dry, I stopped using a moisturiser and Clinique SPF and swapped to cerave 30+ day SPF cream, which I used to use daily prior to switching to Clinique and a boots hydrating serum and night mask (I think it’s hyaluronic based which I’ve used as a serum before).
Now, my forehead is covered in what looked like closed comedones (never had these before) and I’ve got a ton of closed comedones/non pus filled spots all over my cheeks. My skin has truly never looked worse, it looks dehydrated, dull, spotty, textured - and it’s so oily! I just feel completely lost.
I bought an inkey list PHA toner and BHA serum. But I don’t want to use them both at once (or should I…?) I was thinking to start with one but I really don’t know which is better.
Please help, I struggle with skin picking disorder and having lots of bumps on my face is a sensory nightmare. I just am really struggling and don’t know how to fix my routine.
I’ve also been eating a lot of sugar the last few weeks, so I’ve decided to stop that, too, just in case (just cutting back, no chocolate etc) and eating as little processed food as I can. I drink a ton of water everyday as it’s my favourite thing to drink, I don’t really drink alcohol etc.
Any and all advice from a really desperate person please 🙏 😭
I'm 30, female. I never really know what I'm doing when it comes to skincare, there's so many products on the market and I've no idea what I should be buying or what I should be avoiding.
My skin is oily in the T zone and dry elsewhere. I have very visible pores all across my nose and cheeks which I'd like to reduce if possible. I can squeeze them too and gunk comes out so maybe more blackhead than pores, I'm not sure. I feel like my skin is more teenaged spotty than I'd expect for a 30 year old. I think a proper skincare routine could help with this.
I'd really appreciate it if anyone has the particular set of skills to outline what products I should be buying, from what brands, and most importantly when and in what order I should be using them!
I'm UK based, can buy from wherever suggested... Sephora, Boots, Superdrug... anywhere!
Thanks so much for any help 🙏 ☺️ ✨️
Hello I am man 38yo and quite new to skincare and over the last year I built the following skincare routine that is starting to show some nice results:
Morning: LRP Effaclar cleansing, Lab Series Daily Rescue Energizing Face Lotion, Paula's choice Youth-Extending Fluid SPF 50
Evening: TO Squalane cleanser, TO niacimide, TO hyaluronic acid, TO Natural Moisturizing Factors. Once a week I also use a Aesop facial hydrating masque that I received as a present some time ago.
I would like to add a retinol product in my routine for my forehead wrinkles. I read decent things about the CeraVe resurfacing retinol serum so I was thinking to try it but I am happy to hear any suggestions on other products and definitely where in my current routine to add it (morning/evening/both and in which order).
If you also have any suggestion on my current routine and if you would do anything to improve it please let me know :)
Hello, no matter how much I care for my skin it always seems it doesn’t matter. I used salicylic acid about a year ago, it was really working to get rid of these strange spots I have on cheek and forehead, then I started reacting to it, it burned my skin and ruined my skin barrier so I had to stop using it (i was using it daily to cleanse as that is what it said on the bottle - I realised after the damage that you shouldn’t do that despite it saying so!) Now I only use olay facial cleanser and v2 and moisturiser.
Do you have any ideas what I can do to stop this rustiness? Any specific creams? I thought it could be fungal but it’s not.
I have terrible skin and have done since I was about nine years old (I'm now 26). I've tried every method under the sun and even had special cream from my GP. NOTHING has ever helped. I've got acne on my face, my chest, my back, my arms . . .
An MUA recently told me that aside from the blemish areas, my skin is actually really healthy. I don't know what to do about the acne and was considering seeing a dermatologist but don't want to stump up the money if they're just going to recommend things I can buy in Superdrug that I've already tried.
35yo, this is on my cheeks but particularly bad on my left. it comes and goes but seemingly not in a pattern (ie not cycle related that I can tell). They never form a head, last a few weeks and then (usually) move on. I’m at a loss what to do and don’t want to try something that might exacerbate it. I rarely wear makeup besides mascara. Double cleanse every night, and currently using embryolisse before bed which I’ve used both with and without flared-up skin so I don’t think it’s that (or is it??) Have been unable to get a dr/dermatologist appointment upto now but working on it.
I would like to start using tret after many years of OTC retinol. I have just finished a Caroline Hirons retinoid 2.
I've trawled through lots of past reddit posts but think the most recent is 11 months old so wanted to spark up a new thread.
I've seen quite a lot of reccommendations for All Day Chemist but also a couple of people who say they've been scammed. I've seen some recs for Skinorac too.
I am interested in Skin + Me but would probably like more control over what I use and less cost.
How is everybody getting their tret in the UK?
Hello, 28F here.
Dryish skin from use of prescribed cream when younger. Still prone to breakout especially around jawline. Fine lines appearing on forehead, pores generally appear quite large.
Apart from washing my face, a moisturiser, and a weekly tee-tree clay mask from the body shop I do not use any products (they all used to make my skin worse when I was younger) where should I start?
I recently bought the viral La Roche-Posay tinted sunscreen and was so disappointed after trying it out. I wouldn’t say I’m super pale skinned but I couldn’t believe how ORANGE it looked on my skin! I’m surprised it only comes in one shade - how are they selling so many of them, surely this can’t match many skin tones?!
Does anyone have any recommendations for alternative tinted sunscreens? Ideally looking for factor 40-50. Thanks!
Hi! I'm at a crazy moment in my life where I'm struggling with my changing and ageing skin. I'm just about to be 32 years old, mum of 2 young kids and living with mental and physical disabilities. Skin care is my one real thing for me. It realxes me and helps me feel less like I'm drowning in being a mum and getting older. I'm on a low budget too. I'm hoping someone can help me figure out what I need as there is so much information online it's overwhelming.
Okay so here are my skin problems...
I'm pale so all of these seem to stick out like a sore thumb. I also barely wear make up cos depression so I'd like a fresh face I don't feel horrible about when I go outside.
My current routine is water, salicylic acid toner and moisturiser in the AM. I know I need sun cream but it's a bit out of my budget atm but I do intend to.
In the PM it's Micellar water, cleaner for 2nd cleanse, glycolic acid toner, Hyaluronic acid serum, a collagen and salicylic acid serum and then a moisturiser. I quite often use weleda skin food under my eyes post normal moisturiser as its so thick and hydrating.
I know I need a retonoid. What would be a good one for me but isn't so expensive!
Thank you in advance for anyone who takes time out of their day to help me.
I had a skin procedure almost 4 months ago. I've been rubbing the scar with biooil a few times a day. I've noticed today for the first time some raised areas in my scar. I think a hypertrophic scar may be forming. I'm going to keep up the massage, but I was wondering if it's a good idea to also use silicone tape or gel. I know they say it's most effective when used early, so I'm wondering if I've left it too late. Is there anything I can do to limit the growth of this hypertrophic scar? Οο
How can I improve my routine and when to use Retinol?
I feel like i am pretty basic on the skins are routine but aware at age 32 I’m starting worry about wrinkles.
So my main concerns at the moment are dark circles under my eyes and well as what I feel is ‘saggy’ skin under my eyes
My routine is -
Morning
-Oat Cleanser
-Elemis pro-collagen eye revive cream (https://www.boots.com/elemis-pro-collagen-eye-revive-mask-15ml-10321083) Not sure what the main ingredients are and if it does anything
-The Ordinary Caffine eye cream
-Vitamin c serum
-Nivea Hydro boost Water based moisturiser (I think it might have hyaluronic acid in but not sure)
Night
-Clinique take the day off cleanser
-Elemis Pro-collagen eye cream
-The Ordinary Niacinamide
How can I improve this, are these actually any good? (The Elemis cream is £££ so if it’s useless then I’ll stop asap) and how can i add retinol into this?
I tried The Ordinary retinol a few years ago and hated it, it felt so oily and gross on my skin
Hello everybody! I struggle with very oily, sensitive skin and have found it difficult to find the perfect SPF for my skin type, I currently use the Simple triple protect moisturiser SPF 30 and I hate how oily it makes me! I would love some recommendations; preferably ones with no scent so it doesn't trigger any breakouts! Thank you 😇
I want to start using tretinoin for signs of ageing (I'm 46). I'm in the UK so I can't just pick it up in the pharmacy. I read that you can get it from tretinoinworld or alldaychemist.
But which tret should I start with? I've been using retinol serums for a few years now, the most recent one being the Geek and Gorgeous A Game 10 which is 0.1% retinal serum.
I would appreciate it if someone could advise me which strength and brand I should start from. Obviously the lowest strength but which one is that? All those zeros are confusing...
Thanks!
Specifically the Eura Repair 5% (the very dry skin one ideally). It's my HG, and I know it's not crazy expensive (£18) but it's doubled in price since I started using it and it runs out so so quickly :( if I use it daily then it runs out in a couple of weeks.
No allergies fortunately, and I tend not to wear foundation (only sunscreen if I'm going out) so it doesn't have to interact well.
Does anyone find it useful? Tried to remove my makeup with it today but found it too thick and left a kind of pale cast on my skin so had to remove the rest with Cerave cleanser.
Alternatively I may be using it wrong :/
I’m from Cardiff, is there anywhere that I can just go and have a skin prick test and not need to have a referral or consultations to get one. I have had bad skin all my life but way worse the past 10 months. I have also recently discovered Im allergic to soy and want to test for some more foods to help speed it up.
Hello everyone.
I'm looking for a good night cream that will suit my skin.
I currently have a CeraVe facial cleanser and looking for a night cream to go with it.
I'm not very good at remembering to put moisturizer on on the morning but when I do it's another Cera Ve SPF lotion.
I'm 30 with normal skin. I don't really get breakouts so I'm looking for a hydrating cream with anti wrinkle properties. Any extra special ingredients you'd advise would be amazing.
Thanks in advance
I've been using the skin + me for a while now with peri good results on a doser of 14% azelaic acid and 4% niacinamide.
My only issue is it's quite expensive considering you only get a month out of each doser. Does anyone know of any cheaper alternatives or any serums that have a similar mix that you can buy on their own without needing to do the whole subscription?
I have only been able to find both ingredients separately and would definitely prefer just the one thing to apply.
As you can see from the photo, I’ve got a lot of redness left over from a particularly nasty breakout which has pretty much stopped now. Is there any way I can try to speed up the healing process? I know that the redness will fade into scars but atp I’m just so looking forward to not having this weird red line around my jaw
My skin is sensitive, acne prone and dry.
Also, I would only do skincare when I go out, but from now on I’m going to start doing my skincare routine every morning and night.
My skincare routine consists of these products:
Superdrug Naturally Radiant Complete Cleanser (foam one)
Superdrug Naturally Radiant Glycolic Acid Pads
Superdrug Naturally Radiant Glycolic Toner
Boots Glow Brightening Mist
Boots Glow Peach Serum
Nivea soft Refreshingly Soft Moisturising Cream 300ml (tub one)
Garnier Ambre Solaire Anti-dark Spots and Anti-pollution super uv protection fluid (sunscreen)
