I'm officially throwing in the towel

I am DONE. It's been 6 yrs since I was on roaccutane and I've been battling this for about 2 yrs now. I'm done spending time, effort and money trying to deal with this on my own. Tomorrow I'm ringing my GP to start the process of going back to Dermatology

I think my anti-depressants are messing with my skin. Any tips on how to improve it?

I can’t just stop taking the meds unfortunately.

I’ve started getting quite dry patches on my face, but I’m also super oily in places. I have a lot of texture & closed comedones (I think that’s what they are anyway) on the apples of my cheeks, which I’ve never had before. My sebaceous filaments are looking worse, and I’m getting blackheads on my chin. I don’t know how to simultaneously fix the oil/clogged pores issue, while also moisturising enough for the dry bits.

My skincare routine has been a little non-existent for a while, bad head space meant I wasn’t super diligent (skin was mainly fine doing that though, the big break out came after I started the meds). The products I mainly use are the La Roche Posay Effaclar cleanser, a Cetaphil daily hydrating moisturiser in the day, and the B5 Panthenol re-barrier cream occasionally in the evenings. I have the No.7 Retinol and the Ordinary Glycolic acid but haven’t been using those much lately.

Any tips greatly appreciated!

Basic beginner skin routine. 40m

Hey guys.

I want to start looking after my skin, hopefully it's not too late given that I'm 40 😫

  • edit: I have visable pores, small blackheads, under eye bags and obviously wrinkles *

Currently just wash my face whenever I'm showering (this could be randomly morning/noon/night).

Think my skin is normal, possibly leaning on the slightly oily side.

Is this a good start? When should I use these products?

Thank you In advance!

Miracle potion?

Hi guys not sure if anyone has had any results with this but just wanted to come and see what everyone's thoughts are and give a suggestion for any simple/lazy skincare goers

I am very lazy with my skincare and also prone to break outs. I also have very sensitive skin that even 'gentle' cleansers irritates (cerave) and assume oily since sometimes using moisturiser more than 3x a week leads to break out.

However. I use this every night without fail. If I'm feeling lazy I'll usually just use micellar water to clean my make up then slap this on and forget moisturiser sometimes. Works so good I swear by it and it's just not a faff in my eyes to apply.

I still get break outs with this and that's usually due to lifestyle factors (stress, diet) but my face has never not felt soft, plum and clean since I started it.

Nivea products

Please delete this if it is not appropriate. Are Nivea products very nasty or is it just my skin that is hypersensitive? Because Nivea products always seem to produce a rash on my face.

What’s the reason for hyperpigmentation in those areas?? How to treat. Included a random google image but marked the areas

Unpopular Opinion: I know we’re always told that squeezing our own spots / blackheads leads to more scarring and hyperpigmentation, but does anyone else find that it’s the complete opposite?

I’ve always found that my spots clear up quicker, along with any lingering redness / hyperpigmentation after, if I squeeze them. I recently started tretinoin a few months back and at that point decided I wasn’t going to squeeze ANYTHING. Since then, everything has taken weeks to clear up. That was until a few nights ago when I decided to squeeze a few spots and blackheads. Well guess what? The squeezed acne and comedones have already healed, and the PIH has already gone, whereas the old acne that I didn’t squeeze, and instead let heal on their own, STILL has leftover PIH on my face.

Facial oil for dry, clog-prone skin

Hi lovelies🌸

Looking for an affordable (lower than £10) facial oil for my dry, clog-prone skin. I only ever get hormonal acne around my period, which can be exacerbated by my Mirena coil, endometriosis and adenomyosis.

My skin doesn't like niacinamide and hyaluronic acid, so anything that doesn't have those two in would be great.

My current routine - Wash with water TIL polyglutamic acid Nivea soft moisturiser

At night I remove mascara with Nivea double effect eye makeup remover and TIL oat cleansing balm, other than that it's the same.

Thanks in advance🩷

How do I find products for me amongst the thousands of choices

Everyone recommends different things and there’s so many options and trendy items it makes my brain freeze and shut down, how can I narrow down what I need amongst all the different brands that have products with the same ingredients and purpose and if a trendy product is just trendy or actually worth it???

Like I wanna get the cosrx snail mucin and axisY dark spot treatment, and Korean skincare in general but idk if that’s as great as everyone says or not.

Pls help with specifics recs!! Have combination skin, very obvious pores and sebaceous filaments, my forehead is flaky, skin is dull textured and has pigmentation

Was thinking of having an oil cleanser > regular cleanser > toner > serum > moisturiser

And spf ofc

Edit: my current routine is washing my face with water, use the Dior cleanser I was gifted if I can remember, and a men’s No7 moisturiser lmao. I once had a full TO routine that was their cleanser which didn’t make my skin feel good, their niacinamide which after 3-4 months I didn’t see any improvement just created irritation on the side of my nose and would flake, their red acid exfoliated which was alright didn’t hurt but idk if it helped and then their moisturiser which just felt weird.

Hate it!

To the hundreds of reviews stating this sunscreen is lightweight, non sticky and not greasy, I don't know how much they paid you but your all liars.

Instantly caused blocked pores, greasy look on the skin even while using sparingly. It's recommended 3 pumps for face and 3 for neck, couldn't do that it was just far far too heavy to do that. I have extremely dry skin with visible flaking and it was even too much for me. Has the concestency of an off brand pound shop sunscreen. Do not recommend at all.

Rate my routine

Decided to create a proper skincare routine. What are peoples thoughts. I am 23. Haven't chosen an eye cream yet. Not sure if that's needed really but I do get some dark circles and also wanna prevent wrinkles (any good suggestions would be appreciated)

AM: Garnier vitamin C gentle cleanser CosRX peptide 6 toner Nip+Fab vitamin C Simple moisturiser Sunscreen

PM: Nip+Fab jelly cleanser Occasionally Garnier hydrating deep cleanser if I feel my skin nees it Skin+Me (tretinoin + azelaic acid + niacinamide) Simple repairing ceramic/cica moisturiser

Thinking to possibly alternate the tretinoin every other night with the ordinary copper peptides. Not sure wether to use the CosRX peptide 6 at night as well, if that would be okay or beneficial with the skin+me.

What could cause this redness?

I've just started a skincare routine for first time. CeraVe blemish control cleanser + moisturiser daily and a non fancy exfoliant a few times a week. Nothing else for now.

The redness was there before the routine and I've always had a bit of a red face and the only time I had close to good skin was when I was seriously underweight and eating super carefully. Is it lupus like? The massive contract between bags under eyes and the red on my nose is frustrating. Further context: years of relaxed attitude to suncream.

Seeking new skincare regimen/advice after a depression. Help appreciated!

Hi,

So… I fell into a very bad depression for a while (many months) and kind of stopped moisterising every day. Sometimes only doing it once every few weeks. And really only rinsing my face. (I don’t wear any makeup, I also do not ever leave the house - see aforementioned depression).

My skin has obviously suffered. Things I’ve noticed: dry under my eyes/inner corners. And forehead is even drier/a little rough now, than before.

Milia under my eyes/top of cheeks (I had milia before but it’s worse now).

When I do use anything:

Olay beauty fluid sensitive

I use a tiny bit of: La Roche Posay Toleriane Sensitive Fluide as eye cream because the olay is too heavy and was making the milia worse.

I think I maybe need to rethink these products all together. I’m 39. My skin is pretty good. No wrinkles/lines really. No acne.

I was using: Superdrug Naturally Radiant Glycolic Acid Pads for the milia (after trying acids and other things for a while, that didn’t help), and the pads did have an effect if I kept up with it, so I think I am going to resume these. I am just prone to it, it always comes back.

My skin is soft/sensitive. So I need mild products.

My biggest issue is flakiness. I just don’t know where to start or what to try.

I would like to try a new moisturiser, and something for under my eyes.

And anything that can help replenish/restore the areas that have suffered like my dry inner corners/forehead? Something hydrating perhaps? Any advice would be appreciated please.

I’d like to stay up to mid budget.

Thanks!

Should I stick with new routine or go back to previous? 1 week in…

Hi everyone, I made the switch to some new skincare products a week ago. Initially I felt sensitivity in my skin, it felt more dry and now feeling very tight and almost like it’s burnt, especially on my cheeks. I have read that it can take a few weeks/months for skin to adjust to a new routine but I worry that I’m damaging my skin.

I was previously using the Origins Mega Mushroom serum and hydrating gel, and washing my face with Simple Micellar Gel Wash. None of these products irritated me at any point, even from first use.

I only started searching for a new routine as my skin was feeling very very dry, I have always had a dry skin type but noticed it getting worse when applying make up, the dry skin would be highlighted and couldn’t get anything to go on smoothly.

Anyway, I’ve heard a lot of people recommend La Roche Posay so I spent a good bit of time looking at their products and settled on:

TOLERIANE GEL MOUSSANT DOUBLE NETTOYANT (Cleanser)

SOOTHING LOTION (this is a toner)

TOLERIANE ULTRA DERMALLERGO SOOTHING SERUM

TOLERIANE SENSITIVE FLUID MOISTURISER

And I also got the Cicaplast Baume B5 repairing balm to apply on areas that felt more dry.

All of these products are formulated for sensitive skin and supposed to very hydrating but I don’t find this with my skin. After going through the routine, my skin feels a bit tacky and tight, and I see small flakes of dry skin instantly.

Any advice would be great - am I just using too many products? I tried to go for cleanse, tone, serum, moisturise as I thought this was best but perhaps it’s just too much.

Also worth noting - my cheeks are often red, a few people who have seen my skin make-up free have commented that I may have rosacea?

So perhaps something in the new skincare is aggravating that?

Thank you for any help!

Help with a replacement product

I used to use the elf superhydrate gel moisturiser but for some annoying reason they’ve stopped selling a full sized one. It had squalene in it. I tried their new alternative but found it super drying. I’ve tried boots own brand water gel which is better than the new elf one I tried. Neither made me break out. Thankfully.

I’m really stuck as it was one of the only ones I could use without breaking out. Non gel moisturiser always makes me break out on my face and sometimes elsewhere. Any suggestions? Preferably still in that price range of like £8-12.

Embryolisse Sensitive Lait Creme ALLERGY

I have sensitive/combination skin & so I wanted to try out the embryolisse sensitive cream.

It gave me the biggest allergic reaction & now I am left with a very sore, dry rash all over my face and neck.

Has anybody else had any experience like this with this product? Or do you know what ingredients might have caused this? Just so I know what to avoid next time I’m choosing any kind of skincare products.

I’ve tried to research online but I can’t really find much negative information. Also, it says that it’s fragrance free but it still has some kind of smell to it…

Product alternative

Hi all, I really love this cream as it’s helped my skin and reduced my clog pores but I can only get it by my relatives sending it to me from Slovakia, the brand is really random and I honestly think it’s from an MLM 😅 are there any moisturisers similar to this? Or is there any way I can do research myself? Thank you.

Back acne: Please help me with a solution

I have suffered from acne and acne marks on my back that just don’t go away. I change my sheets and towels every week, always shower after gym, wear fresh gym clothes every day but still they don’t go away.

I would really appreciate if someone could provide guidance on what else I could do or if could recommend seeing a dermatologist in London. Thank you!

Am I doing too much?

My main goal is to brighten my skin as it has always been dull and discoloured. I also have some old chicken spots scars I’d like to fade as much as possible.

I’ve started using Kojic acid soap on my body and I find it okay. I think I’m seeing results but I could be imagining things as it has only been a week.

Anyway, I’ve now used it on my face and started up my night routine. I use the following products in this order:

Kojic acid soap + Cerave Hydrating Cleanser

on wet skin

DoSe Alpha Arbutin 2% and Kojic Acid 1%

Geek and Gorgeous Retinal 0.05%

The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% and 1% Zinc

The Ordinary Azelaic Acid Suspension 10%

CORSX Snail 96 Mucin*

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid + Cerave Moisturising Cream

*I allow this to fully soak in and will apply to a completely wet face when doing my day routine. Day routine only consists of Cerave Hydrating Cleanser, CORSX Snail 96 Mucin, The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid + Cerave Moisturising Cream, and PURITO Seoul Daily Soft Touch SPF 50.

This seems like a lot of products. So far my face looks great. Perhaps even the best it ever has. I usually have very dry skin (like incredibly dry. It would flake off. The same with my body), but it has been incredibly hydrated to the point I have a nice glow to it.

Am I overwhelming my face (regardless of the seemingly great results) or am I okay to carry on as I am?

Advice 🙏

Hey all 🍀

I'm a 33 year old man who was previously hooked on the ordinary but as of the last few years neglected my skin and have been living under the harsh Portuguese sun!

On the weekend I'm going to go rebuy my old list (will leave it below), but I just have a few questions I was hoping people here could help with! For context I'm hoping to reduce wrinkles/ageing/redness, smooth things out a bit and generally just put a bit of life back into my skin it feels very dull and tired :(

Everything mentioned I've tested before and agrees just fine with me!

1: are there any items that I should add or could be swapped out for something more effective?

2: is hyaluronic acid necessary to buy and use with so many of the other products containing HA?

3: in what order should these be applied and how often used etc?

The Ordinary NMF + HA Multi-Peptide + HA Serum Hyaluronic Acid Caffeine Solution 5% + Egcg ‎100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion Aha 30% + Bha 2% Peeling Solution

Thanks so much any help appreciated before I go spend my money on the weekend 🥲

Has anyone tried Glowwa?

My hairdresser has just recommended I take Glowwa hair supplements. My hair is very thin all over but particularly at the crown. Has anyone had good results with this? It’s quite expensive and you have to commit to it for a while to start seeing results.

Where can I get these two products from the same retailer?

I use two products on my face. Ideally, I would like to buy them from the same place because I don’t want to spend double on delivery.

The products are Toleriane by La Roche Posay 400ml and La Niege Cream Skin moisturiser/toner.

Do you know how I can find out if a retailer sells these two products? I am not great at searching and what I have found is they either carry one or the other, not both. Can somebody help me? I want to pull my hair out.

Guy that doesn’t know what he’s doing.

Hi all,

I’ve had oily and spot prone skin for a while (sometimes dry depending on climate), I’ve seen negligible improvements using Simple products but I want to step it up a notch.

Current routine morning and evening:

  • Simple Facial Wash
  • Simple Moisturiser

I wanted to do the following routine (please do let me know if it’s silly or if I need any changes):

Morning:

  • CeraVe Foaming Cleanser (Normal to oily skin)
  • Toner (have no clue on which one)
  • Corsx Snail 96 Mucin Power
  • CeraVe AM Facial Moisturising Lotion SPF30

Night:

  • Exactly the same but using CeraVe PM moisturiser.

Now does anyone have any recommendations for toners I can use?

Also do I need to use the snail mucin at both AM/PM and am I better off just buying the CeraVe Moisturising Lotion (just the regular one for dry skin) and then layering a SPF on top (I am going on holiday where temps will be 25+).

Sorry for the crap ton of questions, just don’t wanna mess this up as a newbie. Thanks :)
