Anyone know what’s wrong Mk6 gti 85k miles 2012 Driving in stop and go traffic causes cylinder 2 to misfire. To fix it, I pull over and scrub the spark plug off with a wire brush. It seems to have oil and be carbonned up. Once I get on the highway it drives fine. It seems like I’m burning a lot of oil. Any idea on what it could be? Broken seals?
Edit: I also did a compression test and it seems like my compression is fine
I am asking this because I want to put the Clubsport bumper on my car, but IDK if it will interfere with my headlights as they are not the exact same. I know the MK7.5 headlights have a different mold but are all the MK7 headlights are the same shape?
Hi everyone, next month I have to make a trip of about 6000km from here 90% in a country where there is no 95 petrol and my car requires at least 95 do you have any advice to give me
been looking around for some affordable-ish clear tails for my mk7 and i’m only finding the k2 industries for $700. i’m all over the place for headlights, could anyone recommend me some head lights and let me know if you know of any cheaper clear tails for the mk7’s. thank you!
I bought a mk4 1.8t right hand drive and the brake booster has failed. I managed to get it out and grabbed a new booster from auto parts store near me and it is not the correct one neither is the new master cylinder. Also the vaccum line spot on the booster and the brake line hookups for the master do not line up. Does anybody know where I can get a right hand drive brake booster and master cylinder? I live in the U.S
My lovely MK7 GTD has had a long overdue chiropractor appointment, as higher speeds were starting to feel a little off and were causing steering vibrations.
The mechanic that adjusted it even said, word for word, “Oh, Jesus.”
There have been 3 previous owners before me, and I know they’ve not treated the car well at all, judging on the stuff I’ve had to take care of and repair/replace. I can guarantee you that none of them got an alignment done, either.
Lo and behold, the vibrating at high speeds certainly stopped, though there is a creaking when turning the wheel when stationary that remains (even before alignment), so another thing to add to the list!
I just bough a new mk8 and I live in Colorado. I know this new gen is supposed to be the best at running regular grade gas. Here in Colorado, regular is 85 rather than 87 because of the altitude. Does anyone else put regular 85 in their GTI at altitude or stick with 87 like I have?
Hey guys, my Mk7 GTi has the red paint of the side GTi badges peeling off , and I really don't want to pay like 100€ for new ones. Anyone knows if the red colour is a specific colour maybe used in a car so I can buy some touch up paint and fix it? I read somewhere that maybe it is the tornado red? Thanks guys
2016 VW GTI not blowing hot air but does cold air just fine. Any ideas?
A while back I got my left rear tail light replaced after getting into a minor fender bender, but I only just now noticed that when driving at night, the tail light stays on when my lights are on. It's only the left one that stays on, others work just fine, and it works fine with the lights off, so I doubt it's the brake light switch that's the issue. The repair replaced the entire brake light assembly, though it's possible the body shop bought the housing assembly second hand, which could mean something in the assembly is faulty.
My best guess atm is a short somewhere in the wiring that was caused when the shop installed the light, but I don't know how to go about diagnosing that.
Car is a 2017 Mk7 Autobahn, and has the urban joke lights enabled. I don't have the OBD11 device though, as the setting was enabled by a previous owner.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks y'all!
Dealership has a admin fee of 899$? Is this normal ?
2016 manual GTI - coupe - 90k miles - paid off.
Two weeks ago I got hit by some dingbats with no insurance. I have a close family friend who manages a body shop and (apparently) does excellent work.
Insurance said it would cost 15k to fix, more than the car was worth, so they deemed it totaled.
Insurance said they would give me 11.5k towards a new car.
Family friend says he can fix it for 10k. He seems very confident and could get it done in 1-2 weeks.
My question is... is it worth fixing a 2016 GTI? I have sentimental value towards the car, she was my first love. However, I'm nervous that if it gets fixed, something else goes wrong I wouldn't know if it was my family friends fault, or just an aging car. At close to 100k miles, I would eventually have to start putting money into the car, maybe get a new clutch, etc. If I chose to fix the car, it would be salvaged, which may be difficult to sell the car used in the future as its been in an accident/resale value goes down. It would suck if things start going wrong... then i'm out the 11.5k from insurance that could have gone to another car.
The only reason I am hesitant about getting a new car is that I would have a monthly payment again meanwhile my original GTI was paid off. It was great having no car payment.
Thanks in advance. I truly loved my GTI.
Hey Everyone !! Bought April21 outta college, waited 1K break in, got an APR 93 Stage 1. And then in Feb 24, got a AWE Track Exhaust. Having made any cosmetic changes. Reaching out to the community to ask what you think so far ? And what could be next ? Thanks!! Both cosmetic or upgrades ?
Has anyone disabled auto stop start with the odb11 or does that method not work anymore and I need some aliexpress dongle?
Would like something I can undo if I’m bringing it in for a warranty issue at the stealer. (I go to an independent vw specialist usually not the dealer)
Hit something in the far right lane last night and messed up my lip :( How much we think I’m looking at $ wise for repair?
OF COURSE I’m still keeping my mk5, that’s my child, but this is my dream car and I’m going to work at restoring it. Needs a new paint job, bumper clean up, fixed grill and more but his bones and engine are great and in working order. As a kid I always wanted a Delorian but as I grew up realized how expensive they were. Come to find out the guy who designed the Delorian designed the mk2 GTI. Talk about an unknown dream come true.
I can’t wait to share with you all the progress on him. It feels like such an honour to have this absolutely unit and classic in my possession…and also to learn to drive manual on him!
Thank you all for being a great community and always helping encouraging me working in my car and providing helpful answers. Love you all here!!
Hey all! I wanted to keep this short, but I was just curious has anyone else had an overall bad experience with the MK8? I purchased mine in March of this year (2024) and I traded it in this week already. I lost money and do the first time I was genuinely okay with it. It started in May when the steering wheel leather essentially started falling apart, it took me 2 months between the dealer and VW to get it replaced. Finally that happened. Then a week after getting a new steering wheel, my air bag light came on hard. The overhead SOS unit was faulty and had to be replaced. Then the cruise control/travel assist and front assist all had errors pop up. And this would make the car drastically slow down mid cruise control on the highway, which is just terrifying. Any dealer in the area is 2-3 weeks out to have a “master tech” diagnose the problem. This would have been the 3rd time in 6 months I’d be without my car for an extended period of time once it could be looked at. And the paint quality, oh man. I have never seen a car had a car get so many deep rock paint chips and overall small dings like this car. I really wanted to love it. Had an older GTI when I was a teenager and was ecstatic when I got this some 10 years later haha. Just curious of anyone else’s experience, because I’m kinda bummed to already have gotten rid of it. But I couldn’t justify it anymore unfortunately.
