Cosmic Rewind - virtual queue

I tried this morning and at 1 in the park to join the virtual queue and wasn’t able to get in. Are people buying all the lightning lanes up and making the virtual queue impossible to join? Perhaps I’m just unlucky 😅

References to Horizons and Early Epcot in ‘The Wild Robot’ movie

I haven’t seen this talked about. But multiple scenes and logos inside of ‘The Wild Robot’ are so clearly directly inspired by Horizons and Future World.

I’m trying to find direct images but the company logo is clearly an Epcot logo. And the third act of the movie literally in Mesa Verde.

Anyone notice this as well?

First trip to Epcot, massively disappointed

So my spouse and in-laws just returned from a WDW trip, my very first. I had a mixed experience, mostly from Epcot.

At first I was having a pretty great time, despite the weather (it misted all darn day). I absolutely loved the aquarium and was entranced by the giant round ribbontail rays they had. I also really loved the Living with the Land ride--at first it felt only ok, but I thought the garden/farming part was completely fascinating, and would've been up for the backstage tour except my MIL was completely uninterested. Another time. And then we started the tour of the countries. Being a massive fan of England, I bought all sorts of Disney British merch--British Pooh Bear, Minnie tea cup and saucer, Minnie tea towel for my mom. France had the same spread of merch items, and I earmarked some France tumblers to get for my sisters, in case I didn't see anything in Japan. Being Japanese American, I was super excited to get to Japan, and especially wanted a Japan spirit jersey. I noted Morocco didn't have a whole lot of merch, a few shirts and hoodies, but I understood it being a less popular and known country.

So imagine my confusion and dismay when I get to Japan and find only a large store filled with anime merch, Japanese snacks, and Hello Kitty stuff. I can get this stuff anywhere online or Mitsuwa/Marukai. Not a single piece of Disney Japan merch. I thought we must've missed a store somewhere and we walked back and forth in Japan but only found restaurants and a museum. I became very upset and quiet and we left Japan.

Once we hit Germany and Italy, the huge amounts of merch returned, which made me more upset. I decided to try and mellow out and get some Mulan stuff in China. Growing up, even though Mulan is Chinese, I was still excited to have a Disney princess that looked like me. Anyway, you can probably see where this is going.

Once again in China, a huge store of tchotchkes I can get in any Chinatown. No Mulan merch. No Disney China merch. NOTHING. After almost crying in Japan, I now became extremely angry. Because now this felt racist. Every single other country had Disney merch. But the two East Asian countries had ZERO merch. I realize there is probably some legal thing going on, but optically--it looks extremely racist. (not to mention whole swaths of regions not even touched upon--South and SE Asia, Pacific Islands, central and southern African countries, Australia, eastern Europe, all of Latin America outside of Mexico)

On top of everything else, the Mickey world spirit jersey that was brand new was completely sold out, so that was the cherry on top of a shit sundae.

Basically my trip to Epcot was ruined because I felt like my culture was dismissed and ignored. I wrote an email to customer service and got a form letter back saying oh no, so sorry you felt left out, that was not our intention, we want everyone to be included, we have forwarded your letter to important people blah blah blah.

I talked to one cast member at the front of the world showcase, and she had no idea there wasn't any Disney merch in Japan or China.

tl;dr: I was upset with Epcot for them not having any Disney merch for their East Asian countries while having tons of merch for their Western European countries, and it felt isolating and racist, making my first trip to WDW a bit of a bummer.

Question about the rides

My husband and I are planning a one day trip to Epcot at the end of the year and neither of us have been before. I have a neurological disorder where I can’t do rollercoasters/very fast rides.

Which rides would you recommend?

What would your Greenfield EPCOT look like?

Ignore the compromises that have given us the EPCOT people enjoy today. If you had that much space and could build a new theme park from scratch that was worthy of the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow, what would that look like?

It can absolutely include elements from the current day version just as much as fresh excitement.

France to Guardians of the Galaxy

Hey currently in Epcot. Looking for some advice on the quickest way from getting from France to Guardians. Should I take the boat or just walk it. Thanks for the advice!

Thanks to everyone who answered seriously, I get we can look at a map. I guess this sub/flair is not designed for advice and help navigating the largest park on property.

Throwback Friday: Wonders of China

Wonders of China was a Circle-Vision 360° film featured in the China Pavilion at EPCOT. It opened with the park on October 1st, 1982. The film showcased famous Chinese landmarks and the people, environment, and culture of China. Keye Luke provided the voice-over narration as the philosopher Li Bai, while a Chinese actor Shih Kuan appears in the film's live-action footage. Wonders of Chica closed on March 25, 2003. It was replaced by an updated film, Reflections of China, which opened on May 23, 2003, and is still playing today.

I am so shocked that I met a character in line for guardians of the galaxy cosmic rewind.

So last week I went to Epcot, and I had boarding group 4 for guardians of the galaxy cosmic rewind, and my group was called at park open. When I entered the queue, I saw Star Lord, aka peter Quill, in the first room of the queue for guardians of the galaxy cosmic rewind before his outside sets. I was wondering if this is normal or not. I saw him outside and he regonized me and as I was walking to joffreys next to Cosmic, we were walking behind star lord to get to Joffreys. So crazy me, I shouted at star lord, you rule and star lord told me I rule. I have never seen star lord 3 times in one morning. One of which i wanted a solo pic without my mom in it LOL.

Edit: just to be clear:  He and his CM/handler were inside the swirly path that neither the regular queue nor the LL use so I was confused why someone was there before I realized it was him.

The Seas with Nemo and Friends closing early for the foreseeable future

Starting this week and as far as the calendar goes The Seas with Nemo and Friends will close starting at 7:00 P.M. Not just the attraction is closing but the whole pavilion including the aquarium and Turtle Talk with Crush. There's a sign informing guests that the pavilion will close at 7:00 P.M. This may be due to construction inside the building as well as the reduced number of things to do inside the pavilion.
