When is the quietest/least busy time for Shanghai Disneyland?

Hi all! when would be a good time to visit if I absolutely cannot stand crowds and is flexible about when I go? although I prefer Q4 of this year or early next year. I have looked on this page: https://queue-times.com/parks/30/calendar/2023/11 but I can't make out a pattern. thank u so much!

disneyland shanghai crowds?

Hello everyone, we are thinking of going end of october. we would probably be there on Thursday 31 October and Friday 1st of nov. Our daughter has autisme, she likes the parks, a long wait is fine, but there needs to be structure. I understood that there can be some pulling and shoving in the park. anyone that can give us some advice here? How are the crowds when we would go and if we buy the DPA to avoid most cues would that be sufficient?

Visiting at Christmas time?

I’d love to hear from those who have visited Shanghai Disneyland at some point during the week after Christmas (anytime between 27th December and 1st January)

We are from the UK and my daughter is absolutely mad about Zootopia… ever since she’s discovered that “the real Zootopia” exists she won’t stop talking about it. Plus I want to go too 😅 however it looks like just after Christmas would be the best time for us to visit… is it as horrendously busy as I’m thinking it would be?

I am entitled to a disability access pass, so the queue lengths aren’t a massive issue - but my daughter has sensory issues and the excessive crowds during parades etc could be a lot for her. We’ve done WDW and DLP but both of them we went in the ‘quiet’ season.

I’d love to hear anybody’s experiences and also what you think about Shanghai Disneyland in general!

Thanks 😊

Best one day plan ?

Hi everyone, thanks a lot for all your advices and feedback here it’s very helpful.

I plan to go to Shanghai Disneyland with a friend on the 12th of June, is it an ok date or do you think it can be crowded ? We’ll only have one day in the park so I want to choose the best day possible.

Also, what is the best ticket option ? I’m a bit lost among the different plans (English isn’t my first language, Chinese even less). And is it me or the fast pass there are really expensive ? Are they mandatory for a one day trip ?

Thanks again !

Online bookings and paper tickets

I’m planning a visit to Shanghai Disney in a couple weeks and I was wondering if anyone knows whether online bookings (official website or Klook) provide paper tickets? I’m a bit old school and love collecting paper tickets as souvenirs, so it would be disappointing if we just get QR codes to enter the park.

Can anyone who’s been there recently share his experience? Thanks in advance!

Can I buy Early Bird tickets and upgrade them to DPA later?

Will be visiting In december,

Already booked the hotel but not the tickets.

I saw that we are able to book 1 month in advance for normal tickets but not the DPA tickets.

Anyone knows if I can book the early access tickets first and upgrade them later on?

Thank you in advance :D

Toy story hotel

Hi! Can you help me decide? It’s my first time to try to stay in a Toy Story hotel, but my budget can only accommodate for 1 night. What would be better?

A. Check-in Thursday, Check-out Friday. Disneyland - Thursday.

B. Check-in Thursday, Check-out Friday. Disneyland - Friday.

Hoping to hear your thoughts on how can I maximize my stay on the hotel. Thank you!

Disney Downtown opening times

Hello! I'm hesitating adding an extra hotel night to be able to go back to Disney downtown one morning after our 2 days park but wondering at what time stores open there and if it will be worth the extra night? I'm afraid we won't have much time to see Disney downtown with our 2 days park, what do you think? We stay at the Courtyard Marriott hotel nearby and their latest shuttle in the evening is at 10.30pm. Also if you have any experience feedback about the luggage storage (where is it? easy? how much?) as if we don't take the extra night we will need it.

Thanks!

Foreign visitor with disability access

Hi folks, we qualify for DAS in parks in Paris and the US, but this is our first time visiting Shanghai. The website for the resorts requires proof of disability, but does not provide details. Does anyone have experience with this. We’re traveling from Australia.

Interest in Shanghai Disney guide?

I kind of want to make a complete guide to shanghai disney (text, not video) that would basically feature articles about every ride and stuff like that and it would be organized in a notion database (look notion up if u dk what that is its pretty nice) and I don't want my effort to be wasted so I was wondering if there is any actual interest.

Can you still buy DPA if staying at the resort?

So I’m looking at the app right now to purchase tickets and such, and there’s a pop up saying something along the lines of how you’re unable to buy DPA if you’re staying at the resort (I might be perceiving it wrongly however)

My partner and I are looking to go to Shanghai Disneyland end-April, as well as booking a 2 night stay there. Can anyone clarify if we would still be able to get DPA simultaneously from the app if possible?

Solo visitor on a weekday - is DPA required?

Hi

I have a free day in Shanghai tomorrow (Tuesday , 16 April). Thinking of visiting Disneyland.

Quickly since they have solo rider lanes, does it make sense to get the DPA or can I just buy at the park if required?

Also does early access make sense?

Thank you!

How to find tickets purchased on Shanghai Disneyland website

Hi everyone, I'm from the United States and I've purchased 4 "Early Bird One Day Dated Ticket with RMB 100 Food & Beverage Coupon" for Wednesday, April 17 at Shanghai Disneyland through the Shanghai Disneyland website.

I received an order confirmation (with a confirmation number) via email, which also shows up on my Shanghai Disneyland iPhone app (where I created an account).

However I can't find anything that resembles a Disney theme park ticket -- either on the app, the website, or my email. All I have is the confirmation number on the "Thank you. Your order is confirmed." email and the same info under the "Tickets & Passes" tab under "My Plans" on the app, but no PDF ticket to print out that has a QR code (like the tickets I've purchased for parks in the States or the tickets I purchased for Hong Kong Disneyland.)

Do I need actual tickets to get into the park with a QR code to scan...?

Types of and entrances for early entry admission

Hi everyone - I am finding it difficult to differentiate between ticket types -

I am visiting for one day later this month and want to make the most of the day with early entry and Premier access

Is the ‘Early Park Entry Pass’ advertised as a separate add on for 149RMB different to ‘Priority park entry through the Disneytown entrance’ included in Concierge services? Do they allow admission at the same time, or do I need to buy the Early Park Entry Pass as well as Concierge services if I want to access the park early?

Which would be more convenient traveling from Shanghai city center?

Thanks in advance!

Recent Experience at SDL

I was recently at Shanghai Disney (Monday 25 March and Thursday 28 March) with my 4 year old. We rocked up both days at 730am to the taxi drop off area and it took about an hour to actually make it into the park - so leave plenty of time. Even though both days we went were weekdays where there didn't appear to be school holidays, it felt busy so I can only imagine what's it's like during weekends or public holidays. Lots of local families with kids as well. What this means is that by 830am (scheduled opening time of park) people are literally running with their prams to the attractions and ones that are particularly in vogue - especially the seven dwarves mine train - has a queue time in excess of 60 minutes. Other attractions that had very long queue times both days were soaring over the horizon and zootopia. It is absolutely worth buying premier access for these rides if you want to experience them. Other Redditors have posted that the Pirates of the Caribbean ride is a must and it is very good. Surprisingly, on both days from 830 to about 915am, there was no queue or a 5 min queue for this ride, so one suggestion is to head to this first and take it multiple times. We did this ride twice in the span of 10 minutes as there was no queue. By 1030am when more people start arriving, everything has a queue, including this ride. Both days we went, we were pretty much done by noon as around this time, unless you have premier access, waits in excess of 20 minutes are just not practical with a young child.

There are various review sites out there but FWIW I thought the mine train is overrated and absolutely not worth queuing for (it's a 90 second ride). My 4 year old loved it so we ended up buying 2x premier access for this ride. My favourite ride is the zootopia hot pursuit ride. It was done very well. Pirates a clear second. These are full immersion type rides where you can tell there was clearly lots of monetary investment in the technical aspects of the ride.

Some other miscellaneous info that might be relevant to others going:

-you can buy premier access multi packs in advance through the app or on the day for individual rides. I had some difficulty paying using my foreign (non prc) credit card a few times, so had to go to one of the guest services kiosks to pick the specific rides I wanted premier access for. No issues with using the foreign card there.

-porters are very strict with ride heights so make sure your kid is tall enough before you shell out for premier access or wait in a queue. There was no Premier access queue for the rides I went on (mine train and zootopia) and there is a measuring thing where the ride requires it so if you are borderline, suggest you go to Premier access queue to get your kid measured for height before committing to buy as it's non refundable.

-porters are also very strict with what ticket has premier access. I bought Premier access for my daughter km her child ticket and chose the other ticket for Premier access. When they scanned it, the pic of myself (rather than my wife) came up on the adult ticket I bought premier access for and they refused to let her on so I bought another Premier access for her ticket specifically as my daughter wanted to ride it with my wife. If you have a big party and only specific people want premier access, take a note of ticket numbers and who the actual photo/person is assigned to that ticket as you won't be able to swap or explain your way out of the situation. There are also 2 layers of premier access checks so even if one person let's you through, chances are slim you convince two separate employees to make a concession like this.

-the zootopia hot pursuit Premier acess is described in the app as NOT allowing you to Bypass the zootopia entrance queue (yes there is a separate queue which can sometimes be in excess of 60 min) just to ENTER the general zootopia area. However there is an entrance marked for 'Zootopia premier access' (no specific reference to hot pursuit) and we tried our luck with our tickets (which they scan to check for premier access) and it worked and they waved us through. I can't say for sure that Premier access to hot pursuit absolutely includes priority access to zootopia generally but worth trying and it saved us 30 minutes of queueing alongside the general admission ticket holders.

-it was raining heavily in the morning when we arrived on Thursday 28 March. There are plenty of people selling rain ponchos (10 RMB for the better quality ones in a packet and maybe 5 rmb for what look like clear rubbish bin bags that looked cheaper and less sturdy) and latex shoe covers to keep your trainers dry (10 RMB for the yellow or blue ones that come in a sealed pack) right at the taxi drop off point. These are worth every penny if you don't have your own kit or the forecast calls for rain during your visit as I'm not sure where you could purchase these inside the park at these prices. They also buy umbrellas if you need these.

-even though it was raining, the park was STILL very busy in my view. Fewer people than the Monday when it was dry, but it took longer to go through the checks (as people had to get under the covered shelter and remove ponchos to get their bags off, etc) and because some rides were closed, everything else became busy. Once the mine train was reopen, the queue was already 40 minutes which indicated that people stayed in the queue rather than leave in the expectation than when the rain eased, the ride would restart. In short, even if it rains, the popular rides are still seeing long queues and it really doesn't deter people from going.

-at the drop off area and the approach to the main security screening area, you'll see people offering prams that you can rent. These are unofficial (you can rent 'official' Disney ones for 90 rmb inside the actual park) but the unofficial ones are actually roomier (can seat 2 children or strangely, one child and an adult which we saw) and only cost 100 rmb to rent. You also need a 200 rmb deposit, which you'll get back when you drop off the pram when you leave. To take advantage of this, highly recommended you have wechat so you can message the person who rented to you and use the translate feature to find the drop off area, which will normally be near the place you rented. The people are incentivised to get the pram back and return your cash - we didn't encounter any scams and honestly you'll see so many of these rental prams. We paid in cash (300 rmb) and got back 200 rmb as our wechat pay is not set up to receive funds.

-getting a didi back from the drop off area is very easy. It's a one way system right across from where you get dropped off and the security personnel should be able to point you to the giant umbrella where ride hailing cars pick passengers up. There is also a specific metered taxi stand where a whole queue of cabs are awaiting passengers so either way, it's easy to get back to shanghai and you won't need to deal with dodgy cab operators.

-food options were largely mediocre within the park. Apparently, lumiere's restaurant in the disney hotel is meant to be good, but we didn't have time to try. It's also meant to be the most expensive option - I think a buffet prices out at about 500rmb per head during lunch. We did take the free shuttle bus to the toy story hotel and tried the sunnyside cafe in the hotel and also wanted to see the hotel. The food wasn't great, so don't come with high expectations. Getting a cab from the toy story hotel was very easy.

Royal Banquet Hall

Hi :) Going in May with my 3 year old and hubs. Wondering whether the lunch/dinner is at the Royal Banquet Hall is worth it? And if we do try do we do lunch or dinner with exclusive fireworks viewing afterwards? We will be at the park for two days

Thanks 🤩

Restaurant must-do?

Hello! Going to the park 2 days beginning of May with my 3 disney addict daughters (10-13-14yo) and wondering if there is a must-do restaurant that we should make a reservation for in advance? (And also how to do so?). Though I they’d prefer spend time in rides, if there is a very unique nice one it could be nice! Happy to get any other tips too! That’s the only Disney park we’ve never been to yet!! Thanks!

Use of social media apps at the resort

Hi all. Question. Is it possible to use apps like Instagram, Snapchat and WhatsApp while connected to the wifi at the resort? I know China banned these apps so I was just wondering how we foreigners communicate with each other and to back home?

Just finished two days at the park. It needs and Indiana Jones and Hongkong’s Haunted mansion. Where are the thrill rides?

That’s all. It was a great park. But I felt it was lacking some seriously great experiences for its massive size.
