Season 5 was probably my least favourite after s8 but purely because how they handled Rita’s death (except for the first 2 episodes) and some few other things like Astor and Cody leaving Dexter so here are my main criticisms and what I think could’ve been better . . 1.Lumen and Dexter love : Dexter got way too attached to lumen while she wasn’t which I think should’ve been the opposite . After they killed her rapists and she was free of her dark passenger Dexter should’ve felt fallen out of love as he felt disconnected from her as the dark passenger was their connecting point and he should’ve realised that he isn’t over Rita yet so he sends lumen back to her family after giving her one of his speeches blah blah blah . 2. Dexter showed so much emotion while he should’ve felt empty as he lost Rita and his step-kids as he said in season 4 how they were everything to him and he actually cares about them so he basically lost everything that kept him in touch with his humanity but nope , he falls in love with lumen and is so emotionally vulnerable with her . . 3 .Dexter and Lumen having sex : I think it’s dumb for them to include something like that in the show . Lumen , a woman that was held in captivity and gang raped has sex with her killing buddy ? All I heard that people that suffered sexual assault especially at this degree don’t even like to be touched by the other gender or by anyone for a long time . Idk this just felt tone deaf and ignorant just to feed into the plot . 4.Emily Birch subplot : you either fully commit to it or you don’t . . 5. The kids leaving : I feel like with taking Rita out of Dexter’s life , they already took a massive part out of his life but then also taking the kids took out like 80% of Dexter’s personal life that was never compensated for the next seasons as his life just felt more and more random each season
Hi. I'm watching Dexter for the first time, and I'm almost done with season 4. I just wanted to know if I'm the only one who completely skips Debra's scenes because they're 100 percent just relationship drama?
Recently watch Dexter for the first time a few weeks back and I just had the random thought what happens to her?
You may even ask who’s Miller because I forgot her name but I feel like she just appeared one season and then she had this battle with Quinn to being the next sergeant and she won and then.. nothing? Right or am I just missing something?
After waiting for quite 2 months for a full trailer of original sin to drop they finally did.
It will be interesting to see dexter in his early stage of adulthood and how his personality shaped up becoming what we know from the original series. And getting more backstory that the flashbacks scenes didn’t gives.
I was mostly confused in the first part of the trailer when they showed us the final scene of NB and dexter being rushed into emergency…
What does that even mean for the spin off is it a limited series like new blood or it will have ( a potential ) future ? I mean what’s the point of casting new faces of a one timer show lol. Dexter isn’t an anthology series though.
Since they have original characters in the spin off( Tanya,Spencer and that black officer idk his name). Will one of those characters show up in resurrection… kinda hoped that original sin was gonna be a standalone prequel but apparently not.
i think dexter easily could’ve been a detective or sergeant because at the start at the show he’s already been at homicide for 12 years and he finds criminals so much faster than everyone else but so he can kill them himself if he were to turn them in as a detective with all the busts he has his career would be so good dexter could’ve had a pretty good detective career.
Now keep in mind, I only have seen Dexter and not True Blood, but I find it interesting most people seem to be decided about whether Dexter is an inherently evil person or not. I know the writing has its fair share of inconsistencies, but to a certain extent, life does as well. I find the answer to the question far more nuanced than just yes he is a good or no he is a bad person.
He’s certainly a killer that shows psychopathic tendencies, but I’d argue he isn’t truly a psychopath with how hard he takes the deaths of Dr. Vogel and Deb. It comes across as genuine empathy and remorse. Now he did kill a couple people who either weren’t or likely weren’t murderers but the VAST majority of his kills are people who take out innocent people and have managed to evade the justice system. Keep in mind he probably would have killed LaGuerta had Deb not stepped in, but that my point.
There’s a ton of nuance and he certainly isn’t a wholly good person but he’s not purely evil. He does have a mostly strict moral code and was also coached to “never get caught”. Had that not been the first rule, he may not have even considered killing LaGuerta. He also genuinely considers turning himself in during season 2 even though he decided against it. As a whole, I’d argue due to the sheer number of serial killers he takes out, he probably saves the world from more evil than the damage he does himself.
Wondering who else feels this way because I’ve seen a couple polls, one in particular that gives two options that leave room more nuance and yet yes he is good or no he is evil is still overwhelmingly picked. Anyway just finished the series and was wondering if anyone else thought this way.
For me i’d uncanon Deb loving Dexter that part is always just so nasty to me
Hes been here since season 2, he has written some of the best episodes. Even in the later seasons almost all of his episodes were the good ones. He also wrote multiple episodes of Six Feet Under, one of the most loved shows of all time. It just seems so forced imo.
When I first watched season 1 and got to the reveal of the ice truck killer I honestly thought that the prosthetic doctor was someone who looked similar to Rudy but wasn’t and was switched out by Rudy, and I thought this was a super cool twist where if you rewatched the show you’d notice that Rudy most likely killed the doctor and took his place. But I went to go make this post and was going to get a picture of Rudy there and the other guy, but it was always Rudy. Am I the only one who thought this?
Am I exaggerating it? The cinematography is actually so good. I am constantly trying to detect a scene that looks unaesthetic, but I couldn't find one.
I get he’s the main character but Dexter is an objectively evil person.
Edit: just saw this poll https://www.reddit.com/r/Dexter/s/du2GVtLu1X and apparently it’s not an unpopular opinion at all

About 37:45, Dex is talking to Deb about Harrison and she pulls out the "bullet" she was shot with.
This is not a "bullet", it's an entire, unfired, 9mm cartridge. You would not find this inside a shooting victim. For those not familiar with guns, the bright shiny piece wouldn't go flying forwards out the barrel, it would be ejected out the side of the gun. The darker colored "point" is (most of) the "bullet" and is what would have been in Deb's body. Some of the bullet is inserted into the casing (shiny part) and it is "crimped" in place until fired.
I really dont get how people hate new blood i only need to watch the last episode of it but just wanted to say that its one of my favorite Dexter seasons it does something new and fresh and also i was wondering is it me or did the scenes with the Clown feel like thats how it should be been in the OG show is that how the comedy is in the books ?

I’m watching the show for the first time so no spoilers. But I’m on Season 1 Episode 11 and while Angel is in the hospital after being stabbed, his wife is with him and looks in a take out bag and says “Two double meats?” And he replies “A man’s gotta eat”. If anyone has seen Trailer Park Boys this seems to be a direct reference to Randy, especially because his wife mentions “double meats” which is also a running gag with him. Loving this show so far!!
Ignore the words, that was all written in like 5 minutes because I really just wanted to fling blood
We did have a couple flashbacks in the original series set during this time but we only saw certain things. To fully flesh out what we already know can really strengthen the points they wanted to make. Seeing harry as an actual character will in turn make us care for him more for when he does die. I really think this is going to be fun.
so a few weeks ago i reached where lundy and deb were shot, and i just have to say that for such a short scene, the amount of emotion in it was incredible. just deb’s single line, the camera switching between her face and his, the LOOK in his eyes, i was crying so hard! one of my favorite scenes by far. jennifer carpenter and keith carradine were phenomenal
I’ve been getting trailers on instagram, and there’s a 2 second clip on there that appears to be Dexter on a bed or table with his eyes closed (after the events of new blood) and the sound of a heart rate monitor. Is his death being retconned?
Link to what I’m talking about:
For Dexter himself it's definitely Season 5. So many amazing moments from Michael C Hall that season, and him delivering such a good performance while he was recovering from cancer is a testament to how good he is
For Deb it's for sure Season 8, Jennifer Carpenter did amazing
For Doakes obviously Season 2
For LaGuerta her best season overall was Season 7
Quinn I'll also give Season 7
Masuka I have to say Season 3
Batista I might honestly give Season 1
Rita is a really hard one honestly. I'd go with either Season 1 or 2
Despite me liking Hannah more in Season 8, I'd say her best was Season 7
Harry I might give to Season 8 just because of Vogel's tapes allowing us to see a different side to him
Since none of the villains got more than one season I'll just say that obviously John Lithgow in Season 4 was the best performance, but honestly all the villains did great with what they were given
I just saw a clip of the episode where Miguel confronts Dexter in his office and Dexter is playing Halo 3. It reminded me of when I was watching this initially and looked up the account on Xbox. You can go in the halo 3 achievements and see what day they most likely filmed the episode.
nmagoose is the gamer tag.
Just finished binging Season 1 for the first time and SURPRISE MTHERFCKER - I thoroughly enjoyed!
Low key predicted who the Ice Truck Killer was early on but I tend to have a gut feeling about these things, so I'm glad about the extra storylines
Genuine question that I may have missed the answer to - why did Brian primarily target prostitutes? I know he mentioned that he could pay them to follow him, but did he just hate sex workers?
