Between watching This is the Zodiac Speaking doc on Netflix, getting my 4K Blu-Ray of Zodiac a couple days ago , seeing Se7en getting a 4k collectors edition, rewatching Mindhunter because I rewtahced Zodiac, and seeing Fincher working on a damn English version of Squid Games, all in the same week, I'm tired of not having Season 3. Fans have fought for less.
I have been doing a rewatch, and I have come to the conclusion that a lot of Mindhunter fans, myself included, are looking at this show through massively rose-colored glasses.
The premise of Mindhunter is spectacular, but as soon as they stray from "let's talk to serial killers and use what we learn to catch bad guys" the show completely falls apart, mainly because the writing for those superfluous sections of the show is absolutely atrocious.
Brian the autistic child involved in a murder? Moronic writing.
Holden's panic attacks that have zero impact on the story? Moronic writing.
Wendy being cartoonishly annoying for the purpose of adding drama within the team? Moronic writing.
Wendy's love life? Moronic writing.
Holden's love life? Moronic writing.
Tench's love life? Moronic writing.
Their religious assistant ratting them out with zero consequences? Moronic writing.
I am 100% convinced that this show would have survived and thrived, if it had just stuck to the basics, and shown how the concept of profiling evolved, using notorious serial killers as the vehicle to keep the story moving forward, and with the infamous BTK lurking in the background as the big bad. Sprinkle in a bit of office politics (old way vs new way), some local police vs. FBI brouhaha, and some macro-level politics (like they did with the Atlanta case), and that's it. That's all they needed to do.
But alas, the writers couldn't help themselves... They forcibly tried to add romance, personal drama, family ties and all sorts of other irrelevant storylines into the mix, presumably to "flesh out the characters", and not only did this mess with the flow of the episodes, it also made the show boring for long stretches at a time, and that is quite simply unforgivable considering the subject matter, and considering how intense the show could be when it stayed focused on said subject matter!
Moments of pure genius followed by meh. Over and over and over again. And eventually there's just so much meh that the show withers and dies, and that is such a fu****g shame, because I firmly believe that it could have been a Breaking Bad-tier hit if they had just remembered the golden rule of KISS...
Keep it simple, stupid!

Hey All, recently started my second re-watch and am enthralled by the quality and detail of this show. I've noticed a few things that I was pretty sure hadn't been mentioned anywhere and I thought others might find interesting:
1- Curiously, the actors Anna Torv and Hannah Gross look very similar- they could certainly be sisters. Both are extremely well cast, but I'm curious why the choice was made to have the only two significant female characters (aside from Tench's wife) look so similar. I'm wondering if the intention by Fincher was to represent some duality between them. Curious on anyone else's thoughts on this.
2- In Season 2, Episode 4 where Wendy is bowling with her date and struggling to get any pins down, the music is China Grove by the Doobie Bros. However, as soon as Wendy locates her shot and knocks a pin down, the music changes in that exact moment to "More Than A Feeling" by Boston. Of course, Wendy transferred from Boston, and the moment she maybe felt like herself in her new home, a song by a band named after her original hometown begins. Can't be a coincidence, but a wonderful detail.
3- Lastly, in Season 2, Episode 3, when Jim Barney is on his way to meet Holden at the hotel, the morning after Holden meets with the mothers of the lost children, Jim walks behind a table where there is a man who is clearly make up to look exactly like Dennis Rader. The camera catches the guy a few times, and the look is so similar that it cannot a coincidence. (see pic below). I'm not implying that BTK was eating in the hotel with them, but that the Show Runners had to implying that BTK, or those like him, are everywhere.
I've been so rewarded by this rewatch, and am so sad we won't see a fitting conclusion to this show. I hope these details I've noticed might enhance a rewatch for others. Has anyone else noticed any similar detail?
Along with Holden and Tench I had such a crush on these two. Jim has such a kind face and cool voice and while Greg has his faults he is kinda hot and loveable especially with his essentialist theory.
I'M IN EPS.8 DECIDE TO STOP WATCHING IT BECAUSE OF HOLDEN FORD STYLE OF SPEAKING AND FEELING SO FUCKING SMART. MAYBE I'M TYPE OF PEOPLE HATE PEOPLE LIKE HOLDEN FORD, HONESTLY HIS CHARCATER BOTHER ME SO MUCH, I DON'T KNOW SHOULD I CAME TO DOCTOR.
BECAUSE I WISH IN THE SERIES HE DIES, KILLED BY SERIAL KILLER THAT MAKES ME BETTER IN SLEEP
Just finished season 2 and like many, I feel unsatisfied. I can accept that there will never be a season 3. Such a good show, great characters and pacing. Is there anything similar to this type of vibe? I've already seen the first season of True Detective which I highly recommend if someone reading this hasn't seen it. I like that there's not a lot of action per se and that it's more intellectual. Overall you can tell Fincher's work is always great quality.
Dear Netflix and Mindhunter fans,
where is Mindhunter Season 3? Let's do something about it. Here we have a similar themed series "Monsters" which so far covered the Jeffrey Dahmer and Erik and Lyle Menendez stories. How about we let this series continue to cover BTK in the next season. His profile is quite similar to that of Jeffrey Dahmer, with animal abuse and grotesque sexual fantasies developing early on, being a child of not nearly as bad but negligent parents, though with the main difference being him blending in like a total chameleon in society. But I digress, how about Mindhunter and Monsters are fused for a season? Where Mindhunter follows Ford Holden and Bill Tench's trajectory to finding BTK, and where Monsters covers the developmental part of BTK from start to finish? Because the Monsters series has way more exposure right now, this way Mindhunter can catch that wind while still maintaining the series direction. What do you think?
I love how Netflix and David Fincher wont pursue a season 3 but they continue to use stills from mindhunter for their error screens 😂
These scenes between Holden and Wayne, are so good. It’s like “Its you” and Holdens watching him squirm. So good
I really feel sorry for Bill & Nancy. What they have to go through as parents. Poor Brian.
Amazing show so far, but that moment (and all the building with tense music and atmosphere) where Debbie is obviously cheating on Ford with Patrick, what the hell? And just like the next day, after some brief eye-contact at the laundry, they are like… normal again? I mean not even a word about it? It looks kinda ‘unnatural’ for someone like Ford who doesn’t stop talking and shows some obvious signs of jealousy to just let it go and pretend everything is normal after someone is cheating on him. I haven’t watched s2 yet, but I really find it odd it wasn’t explained so far
Just realized Rose resembles olive oil from Popeye... very fitting. I don't think that was a coincidence 🤔
En el capitulo 10 Temp 1.
En la traducción al español, mencionaron a la serie "Hawaii 5.0" una serie que se estrenó en el año 2010 pero Mindhunter, está ambientada en los años 70's.
Just rewatched the whole series and I'm more than pissed for not having other seasons. It feels like I have amazing toys I can play, and while I was just playing with them mu mom called ne for dinner and and cut the fun. Can we make a petition for the new seasons?
THE GOOD
Loved the dynamic between Holden and Bill. And even when the brought Wendy on.
Loved Jim Barney. Should’ve hired him over Gregg. Jim was a solid agent and did the leg work.
Loved the killer who was “dictionary stupid” and kept blurting out words wrong to try to sound smart. Had me cracking up.
Debbie was good because she was trying to loosen Holden up. He was like Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory. Debbie was like Penny.
Enjoyed the scenes where Holden/Bill were doing the interviews. It was interesting to watch them find each killer’s “rock.”
The Easter egg of seeing Wayne Williams show up in an earlier episode, posing a reporter was a nice touch.
THE BAD
Gregg sucked. He served no purpose except to fuck up the team and cause other people to pick up his slack. He was a glorified admin.
I didn’t like how that first case where the detective asked for help and they just told him they couldn’t do anything. I always thought after Holden got more experience, they’d revisit that one, but they never did.
Holden turned into a cunt in S2. Not sure why. Maybe he was smelling himself.
Bill coming home in S2 did nothing to help Nancy. He’s like, “I’m here, but I need to rest.” She needs help, guy.
Why have this running story of the ADT guy and do nothing with it? I thought this was going to be Holden’s white whale, but they did nothing with it.
They got me ready for a showdown between Wayne Williams and Holden and when it happened…it fell flat.
NOTES
I’m wondering if Fincher was preparing for a S3 and it got cancelled.
I’m wondering why Holden didn’t take it upon himself to go help Jim Barney figure out who was fucking up the investigation within the police unit.
I legit thought when Nancy was telling Bill the story about giving Brian a bath that she drowned him.
There was never a real “epiphany” in S2. You know the scene where the protagonist hears or sees or remembers something and they start putting things together. I kept waiting for it and it never came.
Overall it was a good series and I’d watch a S3 if they made it - but I feel like that ship has sailed.
Got emotional seeing Holt McCallany in Lincoln Lawyer. I just need another season of Mindhunter.
Looks like David Fincher’s next project is a neo-western crime-thriller called Bitterroot, with filming set for early 2025. There were rumors about a Squid Game remake, a World War Z sequel, and Hitchcock remakes of Rope and Strangers On A Train, but I guess none of those are happening for now. Honestly, a neo-western seems like a great fit for Fincher, but still… no Mindhunter.
What do you guys think?

If you’re like me and have rewatched Mindhunter for the millionth time but still need that fix, John E. Douglas, the real-life inspiration for Holden Ford, has written a bunch of fascinating true-crime books, and two of them even have audiobook versions narrated by Holden and Bill themselves:
I finished the first one and just started with the second. Both are fantastic, and the narrators absolutely nail it. If you enjoyed the show, you’ll definitely want to check these out!
Sorry if this has been mentioned before and I could be putting 2 and 2 together and making 5 but did anyone notice that in series 2 Holden looked like he had put on weight? I’m wondering if this was done on purpose to reflect his poor diet and constant room service ordering whilst out on road school in Series 1 and living in a hotel in Atlanta in Series 2.
