I genuinely think my life would be a hundred times better if I never had acne.

I (M16) am in highschool and acne has genuinely ruined my mental health throughout the years, everyone constantly bullies me about it, saying "Wash your face" and "You're disgusting", etc. I really wish it was that easy. Its insanely bad hormonal acne that just will not go away, I've been to specialists, I'm currently on doxycycline, I've used 10% Benzoyl Peroxide with aloe vera moisturizer afterwards, and I regularly wash all of my bedding. I wake up every day and worry about the fact all of the scarring that it's caused all over me is never going away and I'm forever gonna be insanely scarred from something I couldn't control having

Acne update - seriously struggling

Quick recap: (20F) doxycycline worked pretty well on my first round, but did not work at all on the second. Topicals including clindamycin, tretinoin, minocycline, and azelaic acid have had no effect. Can't swallow large pills so Accutane may not be a great solution (plus I'm not keen on the side effects and having to be on 2 forms of birth control + pregnancy tests (not sexually active)).

Here's the update: got my blood tested to check for PCOS. Prolactin was well out of range on the high side but everything else was good, including testosterone levels. I have an appt with a doc tmrw to discuss what that means. My acne is at its all-time worst. Last time I posted I think I said something about it being painful and sore but this is nearing unbearable. It hurts to wash my face and if I bump it at the wrong angle or a little too hard it sends shooting pain up my skin. I'm hoping to try some form of birth control, assuming my doc thinks that's a reasonable solution at the appt tomorrow. Accutane as a last resort. I'm really tired of this. I would like to be able to take a photo without only seeing acne. I would like to look in the mirror without only seeing acne.

Anyone had elevated prolactin levels related to acne? Birth control success stories? Anything positive you've got. I need it.

Water causing acne

I usually drink about 20-30 of water a day, about once a month I remember to hydrate so I start drinking 75+ oz and keep up with it for a week. Weird pattern I know, I just usually forget to drink as much. Anyways I’ve noticed whenever I properly hydrate, my upper cheeks start to break out which isn’t my usual breakout zone. There are no changes in my routine or lifestyle. I’m just curious if anyone else has experienced it and if it’s pushing out toxins or something.

How to reduce bacne scarring

Hey there,

I’ve had bacne for a while, and although it’s mostly gone now, the scarring is still there and quite obvious. Coming into summer, I’m quite self conscious about it and I really want it gone asap.

Looking for something fairly affordable but also doesn’t have any down time.

Thanks so much!

Forehead Bumps

Hi, I have a bunch of these bumps on my forehead and they never seem to go away, touched or untouched. The white bumps when squeezed/pinched, release a stringy white puss. The black dotted bumps mostly release a yellow sac-like puss. What should I do about this? I’ve had this forever.

Thanks!

Dealing with stress acne when removing stress isn’t an option?

Since August I’ve (f22) been dealing with nonstop acne. The only thing I can really think would cause it is stress/hormones. I moved to a new city for the first time, just started my PhD, have had some significant family stress, and am overall just stressed all the time. My t-zone has gotten incredibly oily and the rest of my face is super dry. I have whiteheads, comedones, and deep pimples all over my temples, forehead, chin, and cheeks.

Unfortunately getting rid of the stress really isn’t an option. I’m determined to do my PhD even if it’s stressful. And the family stressors are pretty unavoidable.

It’s worth noting that I have been in treatment for anxiety for some time, but I’ve never dealt with acne this bad related to it. I’m on medication, I go to therapy weekly, I go for walks. I’m really trying to work on eating more / getting more exercise. I’m trying to manage the stress as best as I can but it won’t be going away any time soon.

I’ve never really had bad acne before. I have combination skin and and definitely get clogged pores and such, including pimples here and there. In high school I had pimples more frequently but it wasn’t anything I needed to seek help over. Typical teenager stuff. So I feel really lost when it comes to dealing with this.

My skincare used to be as simple as cerave cleanser and moisturizer. Now I’ve tried all sorts of things to no avail. I started Tret in early September. I know there’s a purging phase. It does make my skin shinier / glassier and the minor fine lines I did have are gone, but the acne has basically stayed the same.

Does anybody have tips on how to manage this? Any and all advice is so much appreciated ♥️ this has really impacted my confidence at a time where honestly I need it most. Thank you ♥️

Wearing makeup and a huge pimple popped up on my cheek. How do I remove my makeup thoroughly while not disrupting the pimple?

I usually use an oil cleanser to get my makeup off and I make sure to really get in there and remove all makeup, but when i do that and there’s a pimple, it gets popped and I feel like that’s not good. what do i do?

Adult hormonal acne and GI/GL diet help

TL/DR: This morning I stumbled across the term glycemic load - which unlike GI measures the severity of the sugar spike as well as the speed it occurs and I'm wondering if anyone knows which matters more when it comes to acne? Is it the amount it spikes your blood sugar or is it the speed at which the spike happens? Has anyone had any luck sticking to a low GL diet versus a low GI one?

I (31F) have had moderate hormonal acne breakouts for a few years with no rest in between. Current routine is the 8 step (give or take) using non-comodogenic products and never reusing face cloths, I also use silk pillowcases, bonnet (made a huge difference to my backne!) and eye mask which are washed frequently. For the past year, I've been getting dermal needling done which I have found has helped with the severity but not the frequency of the breakouts. Additionally to this, I use a nappy cream called Bepanthen at night, but do not use any medications.

Recently, I've been doing some research into diet and how this plays a part in acne - for me, I knew already that oily foods and transfats definitely didn't do any favours, and chocolate is always a definite trigger too, but as I already have diet restrictions (gluten intolerance and egg allergy), I was very cautious to try lowering carbs as I often struggle to keep weight on. It seems there's arguments on both sides whether or not GI plays a role in hormonal acne or not, but I feel like I'm doing everything else to stop it already, so figured it was worth a shot to try.

Two weeks ago, I started switching out some simple things in my diet: swapping white rice for brown or wild rice, swapping cereals with quinoa and chia, swapping from full fat yogurts to unsweetened greek yogurt etc. I was really hoping it wouldn't work, but sadly (because bruh, carbs are great), within a week, I already noticed a difference. I'm going to keep at this for about 8 weeks before deciding whether or not it is actually doing something definitively, but so far, whereas I usually have at least one new spot daily, I've had one tiny one show up in the two weeks since. I've tried to keep my calories up still, but eating fresh in this economy is rough, but so far, I haven't noticed an impact on my weight however my energy levels are down.

Mild acne or pimple outbreak neck

Hello, just gonna hop to it

25 male. Had this outbreak on neck for 3-4 years. Didn’t bother until recently.

Using cleanser and moisturiser once a day for the past 4 months. Also exfoliate 2-3 times a week with salicid acid.

Shaving once a week with clean razor or machine. Wash the neck every day with cleanser and change bed sheets once a week.

Tried alot of different things but nothing seems to help.

Would appreciate some tips.
