A place to discuss retinoids including tretinoin / retin-a, adapalene, differin, tazarotene, and trifarotene (NOT retiNOLs or Accutane). Stay moisturized!!
This sub is a place where people come together to talk about the safe and reasonable of use tretinoin (Retin-A). Tretinoin is a prescribed topical retinoid used for acne and anti-aging. Tretinoin is well known for accelerating skin cell turnover and infamous for its lengthy purging period. It is also very drying to the skin. Tretinoin is definitely not for everyone.
If you are taking tretinoin as prescribed by a dermatologist, have taken it in the past, or you are simply interested, you are most welcome!
Feel free to use this sub for all your questions and concerns. You can rant/rave all you want, no shame =) Support for our members comes first, not tretinoin.

for those of you that do: i have used it at 7P and again at 3A if i am awake. or on days where i am at home all day with no sun exposure. do you spot treat ? forehead, under the eyes, smile lines ? i have used tret multiple times a day and have seen a drastic improvement in 4 months. i am upping my dose to 0.05%
I received tretinoin from the company and have compared the consistency of their formula versus what others use & ADC is extremely runny/milky textured compared to others the others which are thicker.
I have the gel formula which again is a runny yellowish formulation, not clear nor dense whereas others gels are clear and thick.
Does anyone know why??
So I've been using sunscreen for the past 2 weeks and I've tried multiple *non greesy *no white cast sunscreens and everyone of them are false advertising leaving my skin oily and white regardless. Is it ok to just wear a hat and avoid the sun or do the rays hit you regardless of sun contact or not?!?!?☠️
i started tretinoin 0.05% in early october, and from february to october i was using adapalene!!
I started tret on Sunday to help with my milia and I was prescribed a 0.025 dose. I put on a pea sided amount using the sandwich method. My face has been very sensitive this week and every time I rub in my moisturizer or sunscreen or foundation, it burns and then passes in a minute or so.
I decided to started with an every three day cadence because I was very dry yesterday. I applied it today and it buuuuuurnt. Literally worse than my moisturizer. It felt like I was rubbing alcohol in a wound idk how else to describe it. It passed after a minute or so but I’m worried I’m going to damage my skin.
My face is very red and I normally have a very even skin tone.
Can anybody confirm how normal this is supposed to be? Like I said, I don’t want to do more damage than good. TIA.
I started tret .025% gel on October 21st for mostly anti aging and have been applying it twice a week. My skin gets extremely irritated (bumpy, swollen, red, itchy) for the 2-3 days after my tret nights so I haven’t been able to increase usage, actually decreasing since it takes so many days for the irritation to go away. I APPLY TO MY WHOLE FACE BUT IRRITATION ONLY OCCURS ON FOREHEAD AND LEFT SIDE OF FACE, every time! Once the irritation subsides my skin looks pretty great and I have noticed smoother skin if you can believe that…
My question is, I read that you need to increase usage in order to get used to the “retinization” but how am I going to do that if I’m always irritated? What am I doing wrong?
Before starting tret I worked on my skin barrier. All the products below I have been using for months - a year with no side effects. I have combo > oily (tzone) skin.
AM:
Roundlab dokdo cleanser
Anua 77% heartleaf toner
BOJ glow serum + niacinamide (realized this had SA so I stopped for 2 weeks with no relief from tret irritation)
Skin1004 Centella soothing cream
Skin1004 Centella hyalu-cica sun serum
Non Tret PM:
Manyo cleansing oil
Anua 77% heartleaf toner
Torriden dive in HA serum
Aestura 365 barrier cream
Tret PM:
Manyo cleansing oil
Anua 77% toner
Aestura 365 barrier cream
Tret - 30 mins later
Aestura barrier cream - 5 mins later
Note: over the summer I got a random dry spot/rasg around my mouth and tried LRP cicaplast and while it helped the rash, it gave me CC in the area so that’s why I have not incorporated it into my routine.
Combination skin female here. Been using tret .25 since almost an year and i still peel embarrassingly. Still have break outs. Use it a pea size after toner and essence. Is tret just not for me Please help 🥺
I first discovered retinol almost a week ago. Started off light with 1% at night; the next day, the only side effect I experienced was very minimal itchiness on my cheeks. No redness or nothin'.
Skipped a day and applied it again, the day after which, I experienced no side effects at all. No itchiness, redness, nothing. Did this again; skipped a day, reapplied my 1% dream cream, except this time was much more generous with it. No, seriously, I applied a generous amount. The next day: no symptoms at all. Nothing.
I know somebody who's been offering their Tetranoin .025% for me to try out. My evidently tolerant skin is making me contemplate this decision seriously. Haven't really seen very many results from Retinol so far, so I'm thinking, since it seems like my skin can handle it, I might be able to expedite the process using Tetranoin.
Drop your opinions. Should I stick it through and play the long game with retinol? Or should I take the red pill and indulge in the holy grail of skincare products
Has anyone tried this? If so how did it go?
hey, wanted to ask if its safe to use the nivea soft cream with tretnoin. (acne)
products i be using- cerave hydrating cleanser, nivea soft, la rosche effaclar duo m, tretnoin 0.25 + antibiotics, for spf i use the BOJ. lemme know if its safe im kinda scared to fuck up
im using it for almost 2 weeks. the first week was good ive seen fast progress then it burned and turned back into hell after i healed my skin burns with some barrier cica cream.
I have no idea why it burned so bad i use the pea amount of tret for night.
I started taz 0.1% about 3 months ago and haven't noticed any difference. Is it too early to tell? My routine is very simple. AM: azelaic acid 15%, vanicream, sunscreen. PM: taz 0.1, vanicream. Notice that jm just using it for anti aging and not acne.
Tret users in Canada , what tretinion ( brand, formulation & strength) do you use ? & whet do you get it from ? & how did the discontinuation of some tret formulations affect you ?
I want to ask people who suffer from hormonal acne and have used Taz, will it help to almost completely eliminate acne? Or do you still get it on a monthly basis, but Taz just drastically reduces it?
I'm wanting to try 0.05% Taz.
Thank you!
Im a bodybuilder who is 30 and Ive noticed slight increase in laxity and dullness in my skin around my legs and arms and face. It's not bad but I'd really like to just slow down the aging process as much as I can or even reverse some of the thinning of my skin as I enjoy my hobby. I'm starting to see signs of early crepey skin in my hands and arms.
. I've thought about RF treatment, but doing a whole body treatment at a medispa is pretty expensive. Do you think having a 3 times a week whole body tret routine would be sufficient to improve skin enough to see perceptible skin tightening and better skin glow for someone with moderate skin laxity loss?
I have no issues but i am kinda obsessed with my appearance soo
Hello, I finished the 3 months course of taking oral antibiotics (doxy). Right now, I only have PIH but some acne on my side of jaw to neck. My derma prescribed me a Clindamycin solution 1 and use it as toner for my whole face twice a day.
Is it okay to follow this prescription?
She even said that I might break out if I suddenly stopped taking doxycycline so she prescribed me Clindamycin instead
I am currently on tretenoin and spirolatone was just added.
How long did it take you to see results from the spirilactone?
I started using tretinoin 0.025 mg cream for around a month and I notice that there are lots of new pimples on my temples. Before tret, my temples were pretty clear, but constant breakouts elsewhere. I used to get pimples every four to five days but now I get it every day. Is it purging or breaking out?
I’ve been using tretinoin 0.01%(A-ret gel) from highstreetpharma for acne control and skin texture, but I’m still dealing with some clogged pores and blackheads. I’m considering adding salicylic acid to target those but I’m worried about over-exfoliating my skin.
For those of you who use both tretinoin and salicylic acid, how do you manage this combination? Do you use them on different days, or is there a way to safely layer them? I’d love to hear your experiences and any tips on preventing irritation while using these. Thanks for the advice!
My routine is very simple. Cerave wash and moisturizer and 0.5% Tret every night. How can I incorporate some hydrating skincare into my routine
Is it okay to microneedle while treating with tretinoin? If so, how do you recommend to schedule it?
I started using tretinoin 0.05% back in August this year. It only took about two weeks to gradually increase from every other day to every night, and my skin was mostly okay with minimal pimples until this month. However, I started experiencing itching and burning, so I stopped using tretinoin 10 days ago. Now, 10 days later, I have no itching or burning, but my skin still looks like this.
I’m wondering, based on these photos, is this purging, or skin barrier compromised? Should I give it more time to heal before continuing with tretinoin, or is it safe to resume? Also, I’m thinking of switching to a gel moisturizer instead of my current creams—do you think that would help?
Routine: CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser, La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5, Soon Jung 2x Barrier Cream
Would really appreciate any advice!
