A place to discuss retinoids including tretinoin / retin-a, adapalene, differin, tazarotene, and trifarotene (NOT retiNOLs or Accutane). Stay moisturized!!
This sub is a place where people come together to talk about the safe and reasonable of use tretinoin (Retin-A). Tretinoin is a prescribed topical retinoid used for acne and anti-aging. Tretinoin is well known for accelerating skin cell turnover and infamous for its lengthy purging period. It is also very drying to the skin. Tretinoin is definitely not for everyone.
If you are taking tretinoin as prescribed by a dermatologist, have taken it in the past, or you are simply interested, you are most welcome!
Feel free to use this sub for all your questions and concerns. You can rant/rave all you want, no shame =) Support for our members comes first, not tretinoin.

Hey guys I’m a teenager 15f and I’ve been using tretnoin for over 5 months consistently, but it doesn’t seem to be working.
I still break out and there’s barely any days where I have completely clear skin. I think this treatment has helped, and made my skin smoother, but there’s not any MAJOR differences tbh.
The breakouts are usually around pms time and I’m pretty sure my pimples r hormonal bc I’m still a teen, so what do u suggest? Should I change my treatment or trust the process?
My routine is simple. Cerave moisturizer, then tret.
Another question, do y'all put tret just on your face or face and neck ?
I've been using tretinoin 0.05% for almost three months now for closed comedones. It’s not improving, and today, after getting out of the shower, I noticed that one side of my under-eye area is extremely dry and flaky.
Here’s my current routine:
AM: • CeraVe Benzoyl Peroxide 4% • Round Lab moisturizer sunscreen
PM: • Garnier All-in-1 Waterproof Micellar Water • Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser • Tretinoin (I wait around 5–7 minutes for my face to dry before applying) • Round Lab moisturizer
I’d really appreciate any advice or tips! 🥹
Hello, M24, basically Im new to tret and was applying it only 3 times already, fortunately so far no bad reaction, I have fairly normal to a bit dry skin, and I use it purely for anti aging, I have also ran out of random moisturizer I bought at grocery, and Im wondering if there is any good one that I should get? Ive read that people recommend some vanicream or cerave, what are your opinions on them? TIA!
My doctor prescribed .05% but saw there's a less strong dose is this okay?
I’ve been on Tretinoin 0.025% for about a year or so but my smile lines have been prominent lately. Should I go back to the dermatologist and increase Tretinoin to 0.05%? Btw, I’m 27 but feel like the lines age me.
I went to the doctors to get a retinoid prescription today to help with acne, texture and PIH. The doctor prescribed me Aklief 50 MCG. Background - I am Canadian so most people I know are using Retin-A 0.04 or 0.1 microgel. Looking at the 2 retinoids together, Aklief is apparently a 4th gen retinoid - Trifarotene whilst retin-a is good old tretinoin - a 1st gen retinoid. Now Aklief is basically 2.5 to 3x the cost of Retin-A microgel which is why I'm now debating getting a prescription on Felix. Note - price is not the issue, I'm just looking at value and efficacy holistically. Should I just go on Felix and grab tret or get the new fancy retinoid.
Note - anyone who has used both, plz send help and advice!!
I randomly got these bumps around my mouth and im not sure what it is, l've been on tretinoin gel 0.05% for a month now and I haven't changed up my routine and these randomly showed up a couple days ago, could the tret be causing it??PLS HELP
Hello Friends,
I was reading a few experiences lately that some packages from ADC have been running late. At some point I thought it was never going to arrive. I was out of stock on my ADC tret and had to order brand name Retin A. I used that thinking my ADC order will arrive within 15-20 days. No biggie. But, my skin even hates brand name. This is the only tret I can use and respond well to. I was pretty sad thinking I may have to reorder and wait even longer while stuck on Retin A.
Well, I finally received my order on Friday with over a month of waiting. At some point it was just sitting in Germany for 2 weeks, but my package made it. I wanted to post this to hopefully calm any nerves whose package may be running super late.

Hi, so I've been using Taz 0.1% for a couple months now and it's been an adjustment. I've been trying Taz at night on just bare skin after cleaning my face, and while I see how it works great, it's been excessively drying out my skin. I use Taz every night or about 6x a week. I do use barrier repair products in the morning. My skin's also super sensitive.
I'm wondering if I can use the pyunkang yul to buffer before I put on the taz? The aestura ato barrier 365 cream might be too thick? I've tried the aestura before the taz (waited 30 mins) but it stung a bit and felt too thick. Please help and thank you in advance!!
Routine: AM Vanicream cleanser Hypochlorous acid spray Wait 3 mins A layer of pyunkang yul ato moisturizing soothing gel lotion 20% azeliac acid A layer of aestura barrier 365 cream Sunscreen
My skin's just so sensitive but has been doing well with these products so I've just been trying to see if I can incorporate one of the moisturizers before taz to buffer a bit.
Hi everyone,
I am 42 and have mild acne as well as perioral dermatitis.
My goals are to keep my skin looking youthful for as long as possible, get rid of blackheads, even out my skin tone (I’m prone to sunspots), and, of course, treat my perioral dermatitis.
In the past, I’ve tried various treatments for perioral dermatitis without success. I’ve been using 0.025% Tretinoin cream for acne and 5% Hydroquinone for sunspots, which worked really well for me.
Currently, I have prescriptions for Azelaic Acid gel (15%), Tretinoin cream (0.05%), and Erythromycin cream.
Additionally, I’d like to incorporate The Ordinary’s Copper Peptides, a Vitamin C serum, and possibly a Niacinamide and Zinc serum that I already have. I also have a couple of bottles of an AHA/BHA tonic—would it be possible to include this in my routine?
I plan to use a barrier repair cream as my nighttime moisturizer and a sunscreen as my daytime moisturizer with SPF, of course.
Could you help me figure out how to structure my routine and when to use each product?
Thank you so much!
Mostly the tretinoin gel. Wondering if it’ll be ok to use as I restart my tret journey. They’re cool and have been safely stored in like a big container in a closet room temp filled with other storage lol.
Hello! 44yo trying to work out where my new serum fits in to my routine. I know others on the Asian beauty boards use it after cleansing, but I’m not sure how it fits in with tree
Current routine:
AM: Vanicream cleanser, Olay super serum, Vanicream daily moisturiser, Beauty of Joseon rice SPF
PM: Vanicream cleanser, wait 5 minutes, pea size amount of tret cream 0.025% (approx 5-6x week), Vanicream cream.
Have been using tret for 3 months without any breakout/ damage to moisture barrier. Goal- reduce fine lines, even texture, that overall tret glow.
I was thinking of using it PM after tret but before my thicker moisturiser.
If you use it, where does it go?
Started using tret 3x a week 2 months ago everything has been on i thought i had got past the purging stage i had tons of compliments on skin for the past 3 weeks i been having lots of CC, white heads, black heads. I noticed it started happening when the weather changed in my area it went from being in the 60’s to the 30’s now i felt more dryer i definitely think my cleanser was stripping me out and apparently its not good to use moisturizer that contain petroleum mines had that so i switched to cerave foaming cleanser and lotion i noticed my skin calmed down alot but im still seeing white heads i had to take a break from tret for a week or so i have so far put it again twice since i took a break still white heads ? what am i doing wrong im confused i see so many posts where some people said they just had to start using it everyday
I’ve been using tret for about a month now (currently using nightly), I’m happy with my PM routine but I want recommendations for AM cream. I have oily acne prone skin. I was thinking about getting CeraVe but I’ve been hearing some bad things.
I’ve been on a tret & azelaic acid combo from my dermatologist (0.05% tret, 15% Azelaic acid) for about 3 years now and sometimes I feel like my skin gets SUPER tight shortly after I get to work in the morning (like hour after I do skincare). My skin feels moisturized to the touch, but when I move my face it feels really tight around my nose and eyes, which causes my eyes to get dry and watery. I do not apply tret near my eyes. Does anyone else experience this? I feel like I have to continuously spray my face with a hydrating mist to be comfortable again until it ultimately dries up and I repeat the process. Any suggestions? AM/PM routine below.
AM:
•Wash with eltaMD foaming facial cleanser • Laneige cream skin toner • Numbuzin no3 serum • Dermalogica Skin Smoothing Moisturizer • Innisfree spf
PM:
•Wash with eltaMD foaming facial cleanser • Laneige cream skin toner • Numbuzin no3 serum • tret every other night • dermalogica stabilizing repair cream • la Roche posay cicaplast
Hey guys I’m currently taking the 0.05% prescription and I suffer from not only hyperpigmentation cause by acne scaring but also a few bumps caused by acne.
I am aware that it gets rid of discoloration but does it also clear the bumpy scars and rough texture?
Hi guys!
I've been reading several posts about where to get tretinoin in the Netherlands, but as they are old posts with expired websites, this seems to need an update.
Where / how do you get this product?
I really appreciate your help.
Dank je wel <33
Been on Tret for 4 years, skin was was super clear the past 4 years, until the past 4 months! Im not sure what happened. Everything in my product is the same, the only that slightly changed is the Cerave cleasner for normal to dry skin because they changed the formula + I added Azelaic Acid (15%) after my breakouts which I think helps reduce redness
I've been getting breakouts and everywhere, at one point I even had acne on my neck - which never happened to me. Should I talk to my dermatologist again?
Routine:
Cleanser (AM/PM), moisturizer (AM/PM), Aelaic Acid (AM/PM), Vitamin C (AM/PM) , Tretnoin
Skin looks the worst after starting skincare regimen. I am using tretinoin using sandwich method. Literally everything and anything breaks out my face , even if it a harmless moisturizer. It has been 4 + months. I have never seen anything like this in my life :( what do I do.
I’ve been taking tretinoin gel for 1 week - 4%
I have a red scaly rash on my chin (this is where most of my acne is).
I’ve been using it every night but didn’t last night as my face is really red.
I’ve been doing sandwich method - Cerave (waiting ten mins) tretinoin (waiting ten mins) Cerave.
Should I be continuing to use it every night? I know there’s an adjustment period but my skin looks horrible!
