I've got 170k and need to change the transmission fluid. I've seen on the 4runner forums that most people do a drain and fill or partial drain and fill. I have 12 quarts of Toyota fluid and a new filter and gasket. My question is if there's a way to know what the overall level of the fluid is at the end? My main reason for asking is that about 4 months ago I had a transmission line leak pretty bad after a repair and I had to get the transmission line replaced. I have no idea how much fluid I lost. Most people I've seen measure how much fluid they remove, usually about 3 quarts at a time, and replace that amount each time. How do I compensate for the loss of an unknown amount of fluid loss?
If anyone has info on this or even a link to a good resource or thread about this topic I would really appreciate it! I was already leary to take it to a transmission shop before I lost fluid and really don't feel confident now with this variable thrown in.
I have a 1996 4WD. The DOL let me know about the 2002 rear springs recall. Recall #20A, NHTSA Recall #02V021
Does anyone remember taking their runner to the shop to get the fixes?.
On the other hand, my frame is pretty rusty and mechanics have suggested I don’t touch it anymore. Is it worth it?
I have a 2019 TRD off road premium.
I picked the 6112 over the 5100 due to many suggesting "buy once cry once."
I don't off-road much, mostly small time on the weekend. But I hate the wobble springy effect on stock suspension driving on my disheveled roads.
I'm not sure if the height matters but I've been told 2.5/2 or 2/1 are both strong combinations. But to be honest, I don't exactly know what the lift height will do to ride quality.
Any advice would be much appreciated
I have been looking for a manual on the 6112 and am seeing some show 6, 9, 11 clip heights. Does anyone know how many clip settings are on the 6112? Do they sell them with different settings?
Looking at 255/80r17 for my 4Runner when I lift it. Anyone come across anything maybe a little taller and still skinny? (9.5-10.5 wide) look for aggressive mud terrain tires in tall and skinny size. Please share photos below.👇
I am changing out my cv axles as they are shot, i’ve bought complete axles to install and changing over to manual hubs while i’m at it. Is there anything i need to pick up to finish the job? Any seals/gaskets? I know i need to get grease for the hubs but anything else?
2nd Gen Surf/4Runner KZN130 3.0L TD 4cyl
I got a 92 4runner with a 3.4 swap anyone know of any fox shocks that fit with part number or does the toyota crew run old man emu
The ceramic really brings out the nuances of the terra paint, the slight metallic flake really pops.
Anyone else getting concerned with the lack of updates with the 2025 4Runner? The end of the year is around the corner.
Long time lurker , first time posting. Last year when I was trading in my Tacoma , I was lucky enough to swoop this bad boy up at MSRP with a life time warranty (not that I’ll probably need it 😏) … by far my favorite vehicle I’ve owned . ✌🏼
Anybody have any experience with this?
Bought a stereo from Crutchfield, entered all vehicle info and purchased all suggested harnesses/adapters. Just finished the install but now party mode doesn’t work. Not really the end of the world but thought I would double check if it’s a common issue or simple fix. Thanks!
Hey guys, I'm sure this gets posted regularly but I figured I'd mull over tire selection here. I'm driving a 2018 SR5 Premium with 100k miles, and I've been driving on (Sumitomo?) GeoTour H/T's since I got the car in 2020. The tires have done great as far as I'm concerned though I haven't really done any serious snowstorm driving or offroading.
I'm daily driving my car, mostly work commute, highway driving, Hudson Valley area in NY, but I need to get to work during snowstorms as I work in a hospital and I would also like to do some offroading and ski trips and the like, which brings me to my dilemma:
Not sure if I should get A/T or H/T tires as I'm relatively an enthusiast for A/T but I know 98% of my driving will be pavement albeit occasionally in snow. I narrowed down the choices to the following:
I'm leaning toward Cooper since they have the rebate and would be $750 from tire rack after the rebate, but the Michelins have awesome ratings and I would shell out for them if you get what you pay for.
Thoughts?
Hey
Recently purchased a '97. The only cosmetic issue was the fading paint on the hood and in some areas on the body.
The look of the fading paint doesn't bother me. I bought this truck for $7,500 and it seems to have been very well maintained aside from this flaw. My questions are more towards is this something that needs to be addressed immediately? Are there drawbacks to just leaving it as is? Will it eventually start to rust? If so, when will that start to happen?
I don't have a garage and keeping it out of the sun is not possible.
Here is a couple photos to give a better idea
Any advice would be helpful, thank you
I took in my truck for the 35k service and I was told that I should get these services done sooner than later. Anyone has any educated advice?
Hey yall! New owner of a 22 SR5 here as of September. Prior owner removed SR5 badges as well as rear 4Runner badge. Not too worried about the SR5 badges but I have been looking everywhere for the 4Runner badge that isn’t just a blackout overlay. I am planning on blacking them out but I need an actual emblem to start. Anybody got any ideas where I may find the badge itself?
I’m sitting in the service lobby listening to staff advising brake and power steering flushes to all customers - recommending it every 2 years.
Saying it’s because of condensation in brake lines and the transmission fluid breaks down.
Not covered with warranty or extended warranty. Not listed as a need in the owner’s manual.
Flimflam or actual need?
I am pulling up my carpet for replacement and find there is some sound deadening coming up and rust underneath. This is right where my right heel sits. The more deadening material i chip up, the more rust i find. Any ideas?
Posting in behalf of a friend with 2019 SR5 no sunroof. Every time it rains she says the rear passenger floor boards are soaked. AC drains have been checked by the dealer and not clogged. Anyone else had this issue and found a resolution?
Hi folks...Just got back into the 4Runner club (In 1999 I owned a '98 4Runner with a manual transmission - which I WISH I would have held on to). My wife and I purchased a '24 TRD ORP about 2 months ago. We shopped the new LC, and GX550 (HUGE wait list), and elected to go bulletproof, tried and true. Haven't had a REAL chance to test it out in the CO winter yet, but it's coming.
That said, the other night as I was locking up, I opened our garage door and heard a loud'ish whirring, or electrical buzzing sound. As I stepped into the garage, I noticed that the noise was coming from the 4Runner which hadn't been driven in hours. The sound appears to be coming from someplace in the drivers side rear wheel well...I've attached a video (that may make folks seasick - apologies), and I'm hoping someone may have thoughts on what this may be...
Thanks!
2016 TRD pro with 131k miles on it. The seller is asking $32k, which I think is way too high. How much would you all pay for this 4Runner?
Anyone in Minnesota have experience with cartrimhome power folding mirror installation? If so, let me know if you can help out.
I put BFG AT KO2 on my vehicle this summer after wearing down an aggressive mud tread. I head to the mountains to hike and ski over the late fall/winter/early spring and being in the PNW I like to carry my chains with me - I’m an opportunist. Anyway, I am curious if some chains have different quality or better technology than others. I don’t want cables. Looking for feedback.
(Photo from a hiking trip to Coyote Gulch/Southern Utah this summer).
I'm currently looking into getting a used 2019/2020 4runner trd off road premium, and just wondering what I should be checking when looking at these vehicles?
Any questionable mods that I should watch out for? Anything at all
