Just got awarded a huge bursary for academics so naturally I'm finally pulling the trigger on new rims and tires. I'd like something that widens the stance so maybe -20mm offset, 17" and bronze.
I was wondering if theres any clearance issues that the negative offset poses? I'd be going with 265/70/17's on a stock SR5. Let me know if any of you have suggestions on what rims to go for and please post your setups so I can see them!!
Any insight on this topic would be great. Thanks.
TLDR: Hoping someone could let me know what the max offset I can run on a stock setup is, and looking for rim reccomendations.
It took me more time than planned, despite I have watched every possible video on YouTube! - happy with how it looks (this angle shows a gap at the bottom hitting the bumper) - the purpose is to reduce the amount of chrome parts - anyways, sharing !
After driving coupes and sports cars my entire life, God decided I needed something bigger.
Long story short, I'm now looking at getting a 4th gen out of Southern California. For the price point I'm looking at, 03-09s will have between 130-210k on the odometer. I'd prefer a 4x4, sunroof, and leather.
I've heard to avoid the 03-05s bc of head gasket issues. Is it really that bad (I've seen a few 03 04s that look hard). Aside from that what are something I should be aware of, looking out for, or avoiding? What's been your experience owning these trucks?
Any and all input welcome
So, I'm a fairly new owner for this 2006 SR5, I absolutely love it and wouldn't give it up for any other vehicle, 2WD with the V6, almost everything mechanically is original. It's just shy of 332,000 miles, been in my family since it was new and has been properly taken care of for the vast majority of its life, until my sister got it and didn't put any coolant in it for two years. Last week it got real damn cold, it unlocked via the (non-original if that matters) keyfob with no problems, started up fine but every light in the car started flashing...not the dash warning lights, I'm talking about the interior lights, every light. Drove to work, turned it off and tried to get out and the alarm sounded, and now it gives a little honk when it locks and unlocks. Out of the blue yesterday it started to operate the rear windshield wiper as soon as I start it up, and now it does it every time I start it. It's got an aftermarket DIRT cheap head unit, and I had to replace the rear taillight unit because the LED's went out. OBD2 was connected and didn't find anything wrong.
Ideally I want to drive it until something catastrophic happens or I can afford an even better 4th Gen, and the last thing I want is for it to slowly die from expensive electrical problems. Any ideas other than taking it to a proper mechanic, or is the best course just to bite it and have it fixed properly?
Side question...does anyone have problems with letting off the gas below about 40mph and it just seems to slow down extremely quickly? I'm not sure if it's a 4Runner thing, but it's just odd, hell even my work Tahoe will coast better than it.
So Looks like this cable that I assume is grounding the battery was broken. Been driving like this for about 2000 miles. How would i go about fixing this? Thanks in advance for any help.
Hey y’all! I need some advice. I’ve got a 3.5” lift (Toytec) on my ‘08 V8 Ltd. And the shocks are deceased. Like I can hear them click together sometimes when I hit a pothole or bump too fast.
Anyone know of some affordable shocks I can replace these shot ones with? I just bought new tires for about $1200 so I’m not trying to get the top of the line. Something decent though.
Thanks fam!

Yeti Sidekick 1L to replace the black hole cube stolen from here some months back. Anker power bank tethered to my singular 12V with a flat USB-C. Some medical/emergency supplies in a jar. Mints, gum, travel cards, playing cards, crap eyewear. Little full for my liking but alas
New to the group! I owned this 4runner before I met my husband and told him that I'm keeping it forever. They just don't make them like they used to, 4th gen > 5th gen! 🤷🏻♀️
Will these fit my 2005 4runner SR5 4WD
Got some upgrades

What can I do to prevent more rust?
Good afternoon,
Got up for work today and hit the remote start button on my key fob, nothing happened. Grabbed my spare key fob, nothing happened. The remote start system on this 4Runner has been a tiny bit finicky since I’ve owned it but it really hasn’t given me any issues. When entering the 4Runner I can see the immobilizer light flashing, until the key is inserted, so it appears to be functioning correctly. I can’t even begin to find the system that was installed on this online, so it must be pretty freaking old. The lock/unlock functions still work completely fine. Anywhere to start with this issue? I have no check engine lights at all. Here is a picture of the remote start fob. The only other weird issue I’ve had with it occasionally is a relay clicking issue once in a blue moon. I’ll either be sitting or driving and I hear a relay behind the dash that sounds like a blinker almost, engaging and disengaging. While it does this the lights on the HVAC center go on and off with it. Not sure if this is even related to my issue or if it’s a faulty flasher relay or something. Thanks guys, really would be nice if I could fix it, winter is HERE.
I’m looking to upgrade my 2005 Toyota 4Runner with the original 17’s to a set of SCS F5s with Toyo Open Country AT3 tires.
I currently have Bilstein 5100s and FJ Cruiser springs installed.
If I went with 265/70/17 tires, are these compatible with either of the following wheel sizes?
I prefer not to use spacers. I’m open to trimming if necessary, but prefer not to. Im open to upgrading the UCAs if it’s recommended or necessary. Thank you!
The frame on my truck is rusting out. I’ve tried to slow it down, but it’s just probably gonna be too much in the next year.
I’ve got roughly 200,000 miles on a 2004 2UZ V8 (with stronger Japanese-made connecting rods) and it’s five speed transmission.
It runs flawlessly and I have multiple oil analysis that show it is in excellent shape with very low wear metals. Since I’ve owned it, I’ve been running Amsoil. This powertrain is a clean bill of health. Anyone have an idea what it’s worth if I parted out?
Just got my ARB bumper, those with the 06+ how did you splice the arb lights to the vehicle headlights?
Driving to work this morning started the truck up and didn't have any acceleration. Plugged scanner in and saw P02440 Stuck Open Valve SAIS code. Drove the truck all the way to work in limp mode ~30 minute drive.
I have the Gen 1 Hewitt Tech Bypass installed w/ block off plates. Had it for a few months and it's worked fine till this morning.
Got to work, popped the hood, checked the wires, all good. Clear the codes, turned the truck back on, good to go. No limp mode.
Cold morning around 40 degrees. Maybe the cold was getting to the bypass module?
Thoughts?
i realize that they are the same parent company, but finding a 4th gen v8 4runner has been a daunting ask thus far, friends have mentioned of getting a lexus version instead as they all have the v8 and are nearly identical. i'm more of a de-badged sleeper kinda ride, or a beat to hell exterior, mechanically sound interior,
my issue is having luxury being "bougie" isn't anywhere in my world, i'm not the stereo-typical lexus material, i'm more inclined to be out on my farm, or hunting and don't see anyone in a lexus tossing a deer in the back.
so this is going out to all the GX owners out there, show me some of your builds please, give me some inspiration, i found a salsa red one locally to a family member for sale, it's enticing me as the red is just so pleasing to look at compared to every other "bland un inspired" color out there, but still hesitant because it's a lexus.
are the interiors interchangeable at all with 4th gen 4 runners? i know just because it's a "lexus" there are higher priced parts
thanks in advance
I am new to 4Runners and new to working on cars. I bought my 4th gen 2003 4Runner 6 months ago and I have done some small things on it. I love it and has been great. I want it to sit higher though so I am going to buy a lift kit. I am thinking a Bilstein kit and 2.5 inch raise, but I am curious to what others think/recommend

I noticed while changing my oil that the insulation pad attached to the underside of the hood has deteriorated around the plastic clips holding it in place, leaving it laying on top of the intake cover.
Assuming this pad is no longer available, what are my non-shitty options for fixing this problem?
Was wondering if anyone in SoCal area was looking to part ways with their shelf system for rear cargo; mine came without and have been on the hunt.
Pic for attention
Seems way to good to be true. Is this price normal for current market conditions.
Seller has owned for a little over 2 years, no problems. Has a rebuilt title, from a front passenger side fender bender.
I haven't been paying attention to mkt values on these... What does the community think about price/value.
I am considering buying a 5th gen with 100k for around 22k-- This is less than half the price, and more then likely a superior vehicle.
I've been having an issue with my 2005 that, when at low RPMs, there is no heat. When I felt the lines to the heater core, one was warm, and the other got colder. When I got the RPM up to 2k or higher, both lines got very hot and heat came out. Coolant is full. Any idea what could be causing the coolant to not flow through the heater core properly at low RPM? Thanks.
Hi all, looking to get a moderate 1.5”-2” lift in the rear and 2.5” on the front. I am looking at picking up some used Bilstein 5100s for easy plug and play, most of which come from Tacomas (they’re $125 with 10k miles on them, so not bad). Don’t have any speciality bumper and don’t have plans to get one.
I currently am running some TRD shocks from a 3rd gen Tacoma, and understand the coils are a bit stiffer than the 4runners. It’s given me about 1-1.5” lift, but looking to get a little more for upgraded tire sizes.
Question: How do I learn what spring clip height do I use when using Tacoma coils to achieve the 2.5” lift I’m searching for?
It’s not entirely clear to me - there is a lot of information out there with clip adjustments, lifted coils, etc.
Looking to buy a 4th gen and am looking round and am seeing a lot for sale with mileage slightly above, below or right at 200k is there a reason for this?
Also am wondering how many miles is too many, i’m trying to find something around 150,000 mark but is 50k miles going to make a huge difference?
