i was thinking probably a 4x2x4 but what does everyone else think?
Like the title suggests, what are y'all's thoughts on a Jungle Carpet Python as a first time snake? Obviously an obscene amount of research will be conducted prior, but from a personal standpoint are they suitable?
Further, if you have any resources you absolutely love/want to share, more than happy to see them! DMs as well if that's more comfortable for anyone 😁
Anyone know where I can get whole frozen birds to use as feeders? I’m looking for quail, chickens, and ducks but they need to be on the smaller side. Around 100 grams give or take. Rodent pro is out of quail and you have a TON at once. I’m looking to get a couple of each and see if I can get my snake to finally eat something. Anything helps, thanks.
As the title says. I was rubbing down the body of one of my carpets and noticed a ~10mm lump on her side. She'll be going to a vet tomorrow to get it looked at. Hoping its just a worm or something. Something easy to treat.
My snake hasn’t eaten a meal in about 2 years. He’s been to the vet countless times with everything coming back normal. Only thing she suggested now is to find a specialist to get an MRI and other tests done. I don’t have that kind of money. If I force feed food, he regurgitates. The only way we’ve been able to get him to keep food down and start gaining some weight back is by tube feeding him. I’ve been using carnivore care with an egg yolk mixed in and that’s the only thing that’s worked. I’ve been offering rats, frozen thawed and live, with zero luck. I’ve tried absolutely everything. Live, frozen, rats, mice, hamsters, eggs, scented (many different ways), braining, warming directly in water, warming in a bag so the rat is dry, male rats, female rats, every different color of rat in both live and F/T, the drop method, the box method, moving the rat, keeping it completely still, offering the rat head first, offering tail first, offering sideways, and more things I can’t remember off the top of my head. I am going to get some frozen quail and chicken chicks but I do not have high hopes. Most of the time he doesn’t even try to take food and when he does, he squeezes for a while and then gives up. Never tried to actually eat it. I honestly don’t know what to do. Most of his days are spent laying in the same area. Every few days he decides to move around but when he was healthy he was all over the place. He’s not himself. I honestly don’t know what to do. Being tube fed every day isn’t fair. Is there ANYTHING I can do? Appetite stimulants? Something I can do to trick his system? Something to stimulate a food response? Anything. The running theory for a while was he’d gain weight on the tube diet and then he’d have an appetite again but that’s been proven false. To make him interested in food we have to stop the tube for about a week. So it’s either we keep trying to get him on solid food, with him slowly losing weight again. Or, we keep him on the tube diet, but he’s always full and never takes a rat. Sorry for the long post but I have no idea what to do. Any help is appreciated.
My female has been on a hunger strike for the better part of a month and a half. Nothing I haven't dealt with before in reptiles and I assumed she was just brumating. I tried feeding her today and noticed some unusual head movements. She seems a bit jittery.. not wobbly, but it does make me wonder if she's having difficulty tracking her prey.
A bit of information about her.. she was purchased from Jordan Perrett at the Daytona expo in August 2021. Parents from Schuett/Schuett to Leary/Hare breeding. I don't know much about this bloodline but I don't believe neurological issues are a known issue in Jungles.
I'll be scheduling a vet appointment tomorrow, but just wondering if anyone else has encountered similar issues / behavior with their JCPs?
Got this beautiful jungle boy a few weeks ago and now I can’t believe I slept on carpets so long.
We have 17 and 19kg Kelpies. Do we have any worries about a carpet python that sometimes patrols the neighborhood? It lives 2 doors down from us
Hi guys need some advice. My friends has to rehome her carpet python (adult male 5ft long) so I said I’ll take it. I have an enclosure that’s 4ft x 2ft x 6ft. I know they’re arboreal so I was wondering whether to keep 6ft as the base or as height for extra climbing space? Thanks!
I Have this girl her name is winry. I want to get into breeding and already have some minimal experience breeding cornsnakes. She is about to be 2 and I want to get her a boyfriend here in the next year or so, so I can raise up a pair that will be ready to do adult things at the same time lol. Anyways I haven't really found any good how to online. I was wondering if anybody could give me the very detailed rundown of how I can accomplish that. Also I still have her in her 40 gallon from when she was a yearling she's now 74 grams when should I upgrade her and what size enclosure should I upgrade her too? Obviously I'm years away from my first lock but I'd love to know the knowledge ASAP
My 6 year old jungle, noodle, hasn’t eaten in 42 days, granted his last feed was an XL rabbit. I tried to feed him a rat yesterday and he seemed interested but didn’t end up eating it. This was a much smaller feed than what I’d normally give him so I didn’t think he’d have any trouble. He has been very active since I tried and I don’t think he’s perched up on his branches since. He’s been very interested in his heat lamp, going straight up to the lights cage and bumping it his his nose. Don’t know if I’m just worried or if something is wrong. Definitely considering taking him to the vet
Hey guys, I’m looking for help on what’s wrong with my adult diamond python.
I’ve scoured the internet for answers and called every vet and wildlife centre in the state for answers to no avail. I’m planning to take her to a specialist clinic but the soonest I get can an appointment is for Tuesday and I’m worried she wont last that long. I have photos, however they’re very graphic and bloody, so I’m not sure if I’m allowed to post them - please let me know if I am.
Some background information: I don’t know a lot about her past, but she was definitely domestic in some capacity as she is able to be handled but with extreme caution as she is quite spicy.
Since getting her in February 2023, she’s had a few issues with being picky about food and a continuous mite problem (I have no idea how she keeps getting them when I get rid of them completely each time I notice them). Her most drastic issue until now has been that she rips one scale (the same one) every time she sheds, so it bleeds a little and scabs.
In early December, I treated her and her tank for mites, so I put paper towel down on the bottom of her tank and took out all the items inside to monitor the treatment progress. She was due to feed so I gave her a medium-sized quail, which she took quite easily. 2 weeks after having the quail, she started shedding - I wasn’t able to put all the items back in her tank without potentially disturbing her digestive process, so I put a tub of warm water inside and let her do her thing.
Here is the curret problem: Last Friday evening (3 days ago), I noticed a huge amount of blood soaked through the paper towels that were at the bottom of her tank - way more blood than the usual “oopsie I ripped a scale off while shedding” problems from the past. Upon closer inspection, I saw a a bite mark where she seemed to have taken a chunk out of herself near her tail. As she had fed recently, she had had a lump on her body that I assumed was the food being digested, however this bite was close to the lump so I poked around gently as I was worried the two might be connected problems. Sure enough, instead of a solid mass like I was expecting to feel, the lump was squishy - it felt kinda like liquid trapped in a sack. Poking it didn’t seem to bother her that much, either - she didn’t exhibit any signs of pain at the lump being jiggled or prodded. She still hadn’t shed the last part of her tail, so I replaced the water inside her tank with a mixture of warm water and Betadine as a disinfecting agent, as well as a log I had finished treating for mites for her to use to get the last part of her shed off. She refused to get in for the better part of yesterday, but soaked in it for about 4 hours today - she was still soaking while I went to work. When I got back, I found that she had… partially skinned herself? The area she’s skinned is nowhere near the lump, bite, or shed on her tail, and when I handled her the scales definitely seemed looser and more fragile than the areas closer to her head. She’s also been losing weight very fast - when I first got her, she refused food for 8 months and even then she didn’t look as skinny as she’s looking now, which is strange considering she’s just been fed and the food seems digested.
Would anyone be able to help figure out what could possibly be wrong? As mentioned, I’ve tried searching the internet with no luck. The working theory is that the one scale that keeps catching during her shed has somehow rotted and turned into a massive blood blister, but her scales don’t look rotted and that wouldn’t explain the skinning…is anyone able to point me in the right direction? Is there anything I can do in the meantime before her vet appointment on Tuesday? I’ve considered wrapping the area, but I don’t want to stress her out even more.
Thank you in advance :)
Update: Thank you everyone for your advice and support - unfortunately, she passed away this morning.
I got a little one a few months ago, the last time she ate was approx 7 weeks ago, she fed 3 times once home but now refusing. I struggled at first but had luck with putting egg yolk on the fuzzy, this now doesn’t work. Any other suggestions?
Hot end temp of 32, in plastic tub (not a huge enclosure) and haven’t been over handling or stressing her out. I just want her to eat 😭
She was a very very reliable eater when it came to mice, but she's going to outgrow them eventually so I got some rats and the first time I offered one she struck and wrapped it but almost immediately let go. She's been very curious of them since but will eventually shy away. I've thawed them with mice and even rubbed mice blood/guts on the rats to really get the scent on them but she won't take it. I've been avoiding feeding her for about a month now thinking maybe she'll get hungry enough to take one. What are the next steps I should take? I know they like quail don't have any places near me where I csn just get individual ones so I don't want to buy a pack online and then she doesn't eat them either. The uneaten rats I've just been giving to my garter snakes, but I can't picture them eating quail, so I wouldn't want to waste.
I was just wondering if there is any difrence in housing requirements for coastal and jungle. I know that I will obviously have to gwt a bigger enclosure for a coastal, but are there anything to do with temp ect. And is it true that coastal are much more docile than jungles? Thanks
I woke up and he looked like this what is this? I believe he’s just a bit dehydrated but idk.
Hello, I'm looking to get my first ever snake and after researching I have decided on a jungle carpet python. I was curious to ask what type of enclosure I should keep him/her in to start off as I want to get a hatchling/yearling as it will most likely be my only snake so I want to keep it for it's entire life time. Do you think a bioactive enclosure would be alright for a younger snake or should I stick to artificial until it's a couple years old? Thanks!
