Hi everyone,
I had a ball python for about 2 years. I loved him and he was super easy to handle and never hissed or bit at me ever. Was super sweet. About a month ago I went to a reptile convention intending to get another ball python but a breeder I was talking to convinced me to get a boa because he said they're more social and less picky eaters. I've had her a little over a month now, and mostly she's been okay to handle, but definitely is more visibly uncomfortable than my ball python was and always tries to squirm to get away.
Recently though, I took her out and she actually hissed at me when I put her on the bed with me and was just lightly petting her. I was able to put her away okay but was more cautious handling her after that. Then just last night my sister came over, and I wanted to take her out, so I opened her up out of her little skull home (where she might have been sleeping) picked her up fine and put her on the kitchen table. Once she was on the kitchen table though she started hissing like crazy, especially when I approached and actually even snapped at me.
I had to put a jacket over her to be able to pick her up and put her back in the tank.
I don't want an aggressive snake/one I have to worry about biting me or my friends when I take her out of her tank. Can I train her out of this, or did I get in over my head getting a boa? From what I read online people seem to say they're mostly the same in terms of handling but every snake is different. Since she has actual teeth compared to a ball python I'm a little more worried about getting bit.
My big boy Calvin! He always wants out when he sees me in the room. He just wants to snuggle lol
Is this what it looks like before they shed? I’ve only had the snake for about 2 weeks. Last owner diddnt have humidify or temp gauge. Snake enjoys being handled. He ate 5 days ago.
Hi everyone,
I have a 2 year old female Brazilian Rainbow Boa. I'm wanting to know if I'm feeding her the right sized mouse. She is 345g (on last weigh in) and I'm currently giving her large mice around 25g every 10 days. Is this right? I've read online that I should be feeding her at least 10% of her weight which would be a 30g+ feeder. Should I be feeding her every 10 or 14 days? Cheers guys
Hello! I'm looking into getting a female BCI in the next few years, and I was wondering which option of an enclosure would be better. My thoughts were to buy a Talking Serpents enclosure, then buy an extension kit for it when she gets larger. Would a 4x2x4 (8x2x4 with extension), or a 4x3x3 (8x3x3 with extension) be better? I was leaning more into the 4x2x4 so I have a better chance of fitting it through a doorway😅
Not a single thought in that little head.
Hello, I have a baby female BCI and am considering getting a cat but wanted to know if others had had noteable experiences keeping other pets since these snakes get quite big. Obviously I will use common sense and not freeroam the boa alongside the cat or anything but am still a little nervous and wanted to poll for thoughts.
This is our boy, bobo. He just had his first shed with us. We got him in the beginning of August. One piece shed no left over. Iam following the advice of feeding him a large mouse pinkie. Once a week. And they barely leave a bulge. But every thing Iam reading says we should be feeding him small mice. Which seem to be a little big for him. It’s leaving me lost in the sauce a bit. Any guidance? Thanks in advance.
Hey guys so I'm wondering what genes , what 2 snakes make the SUN DRAGON BLOOD BOA? Is it multiple genes ? I'm just wondering what 2 snakes make up this snake because I'm assuming it's a resessive gene . any help or breeder insight is appreciated.
She hasn’t eaten in 4 weeks. I’ve made sure the humidity and temp are both in check. I keep her tank clean. I don’t understand what made her stop eating. The first week was during a shed so that’s understandable but I can’t figure out why she hasn’t eaten the last 3 weeks.
Came home from store and dude was chillen. But how do I fix this. I put a shirt between the doors for now 😆
What would a good size enclosure be for a female BCI? Would a 6x2x4 work for life or will I need larger eventually? I know all snakes can be different sizes, I just want some extra opinions. Thank you!
Hi. So I like to bring my snakes with me almost everywhere I go but as of recently, my mom started using plugins in the car. We typically ride with the windows down and usually my snakes are in the trunk or on the floor with me (in a traveling carrier by the way). It’s only one plugin and it’s in the front of the car. I wanted to post here to get some options and see if you guys think that it’s fine to still bring them despite the plugins. Any advice is greatly appreciated :)
I got a baby boa this year and set him up in a 40 gal quarantine enclosure. He never used any of his hides and mostly stayed out in the open. He is now in a slightly bigger enclosure with the same stuff but he uses his hides all the time. The only things I can think of that have changed is the size of the enclosure, enclosure type and it's location. I'm just curious if it was a husbandry issue or just a thing that happened.
