Sorry I do t know how to Reddit but here is a pic of the snakes tail from earlier. Someone said the rattles can break off but it looks like a regular tail to me.
I really have no clue what it is. After looking through pictures it looks like some type of rattlesnake but it doesn’t have a rattler.
[Walnut Creek, CA] Found this snake in my backward in Walnut Creek, CA. Can I let it go, or should I kill it?
Sorry the photo is blurry, but I had seen a rattle snake earlier in the day so I kept my distance from it to be safe.
And why do they pile up? To keep warm? It is kinda chilly out today🥶
Found this little guy while moving rocks in my garden. I was probably stepping around/over him for 20 minutes before I saw him. Thought he was a string that had been buried because he was stretched out and very still. He wasn’t happy with me using a stick to lift him onto the shovel for relocation. We have a heavily wooded creek near the house, might be where he came from.

Thanks!
Snakes definitely don't want to bite people. This post stolen from Twitter.
The girl is almost standing on the tail of an Eastern Copperhead, Agkistrodon contortrix, (venomous) and no one noticed until later looking at the picture apparently.
He was polite enough to let me know we were on his trail and should kindly go around. Off trail was a severe downslope so we waited 5mins while he just buzzed away. Eventually we just carefully went around since he was adamant he wasn’t moving.
Surprised us on a hike this morning. Interrupted some sunbathing. Got a little upset after the picture and rattled at us then went into the shrubs.
I'm mostly just excited I finally have something to contribute here.

Hi. We’re hoping to confirm that this snake, found in a house in the suburbs of Philadelphia, is, as we suspect, a garter snake. Thanks in advance for any help or guidance.
