Instagram and Facebook are also highly used in the reptile trade, it also gives you more opportunity to check out blood lines and get to know the breeders. A good breeder is just as important as a good animal

Hey everyone! Just wanted to see what reputable breeders people know of for SD retics? I know about Reach Out Reptiles, I just want to look at everything that’s available out there for when I get my next snake.
First off, I’d like to say I’ve been doing a lot of research and I'm in the process of setting up my own reptile habitat with a PVC tank, heat pads, and all that stuff. I’ve heard of this guy named "Reach Out Reptiles" who seems pretty popular for selling these fellas.
But here's the thing: I noticed on his website that he only has hatchlings from 2022 available. I get that two years isn't that long when it comes to these snakes, but I'm wondering if there's any difference in behavior between brand-new hatchlings and ones that are two years old. Things like socializing, hook training, feeding response, all of that. I’ve tried to do more research but it seems like there’s so little on these guys and mainland retics are where it’s at.
Would really appreciate any insights you might have on this! Thanks a bunch
My girl daphne just had a shed a look at those colors pop
Hey all! Quick question
So my almost 2 year old phantom retic Blissey isn’t flicking her tongue at full length the last few days. Like she still eats fine and is still as active as she normally is but her tongue comes out slow and it’s just the fork and not like her long pronounced flicks I grew accustomed to seeing. Is there something I should be worried about with her or is this normal behavior? I opened her mouth and I don’t see any reddish skin or inflammation and there’s nothing goopy around her mouth. It’s just strange and wanted to makes sure. Thanks for your help
Made a playground “cat tree” for Zaza (Quetzalcoatl is a mouthful). If I can come up with a clever name and there’s interest, would love to make more. He spent about and hour and a half on it this morning going back and forth between branches, so safe to say he loves it. Looking forward to the challenge of making a giant one for when he’s bigger!
Put a camera on this little man because he’s so active. Pretty great to see! He’s got lots of climbing room, two thermostat regulated zones, hot & cool end both with hides. Been swapping out little enrichment items too, he loves all of them. Animal safe silicon balls, & some variety of stuff to climb on. Large silicon snap together baby safe rings that hang from the lid are his favorite so far.
hi all! please delete if this kind of thing isn't allowed here.
so, i want to preface that i am not a breeder of any sort, and have most often with snakes only payed attention to genetics for visuals (or to avoid some because of neurological issues, etc).
that being said, i've been eyeing a specific retic lately, and wanted to make sure i had all the correct understanding. he is 25% kalatoa (on the sire's side), his dam was a 14ft mainland.
does the 25% kalatoa contribute to his size at all, at that point, or should i assume he will take more after his dam? sire was less than 8ft in length. thanks in advance! ^^
I'm trying to get as many answers as possible. I've been recently checking out these plastic storage sheds. The one I'm looking at is a 8ft by 5ft by 8ft. With simple modifications I think one of these could easily be used as a large snake enclosure! What do you guys think?
Is your retic always active? Can you sit down in the evening and watch TV with them like I do with my dumerils boa or do they move too much?
I think one of the reasons so many people are drawn to retics is the insane beauty and variability of the different morphs. Not only do you get an intelligent personable animal, but they’re also covered in some of the most intense morphs in the reptile hobby.
I love so many different morphs, I want them all. The obvious problem, aside from the cost, is that retics are big snakes. They take up a lot of space and eat a bunch of food.
So my first thought is to only get SD snakes, but that basically doubles or triples the upfront cost. Also, morphs are still being crossed into Super dwarves, so there are some that just straight don’t exist at that size.
With the smaller snakes, I’d have a market I feel comfortable breeding for, but that means fully diving into the business side of things which I don’t have the capital or time for right now, even though I really want to.
Second thought, communal recreation space. I’ve been working on turning my reptile room into a massive jungle gym that I can just let the snakes roam around in, eventually they get tired and I can put them back, and the enclosure can be a little smaller while still letting them live an active enriched life. This works terrific for my baby mainland and baby SD, but it’s mostly SD or ball python sized, not adult mainland. A 3in diameter tube is plenty right now, but in a few years I bet it’ll be too small for the mainland. I have plans for an out door space that’s built to that size, but that’s a little ways off.
I have a bunch more tiny idea fragments, but these are the two I keep going back on. Am I too far out ahead of my skis on this? How do I maximize the number of snakes I’m able to responsibly keep?
Scrolling through MM, noticed there isn't many adverts for mainland retics at this time of year, was wondering why that is

Do retics change their spots as they grow? A seller is trying to sell me a baby retic but it turned out to already be 8n months old and its patterns are different from that of the initial pictures, namely one of the spots on the neck is not connected to the rest of the pattern, and so on. Do those snakes change their patterns as they grow somewhat? I am not talking about becoming a whole different morph, but i was of the impression those are kind of like fingerprints for snakes.
Hey, i am buying a reticulate pyton baby, i have 2 questions.
I imagine something like this as a juvenile/adult:
My second question: Are male reticulate pytons really that much more aggressive during the breeding season? How common is it? Is the chance of getting a female retic who is just naturally grumpty smaller than that of getting a male retic with breeding season aggresion? Are males breeding aggresive even with the absense of a female?
