Snake tanks

Hi I'm getting a children's python in January and I'm wondering what would be the best kind of enclosure environment I want to make it as close to the natural environment as possible

Vertical Temperature Gradient

Has anyone messed around with vertical temperature gradients? I have several branches mounted in my son’s corn snake enclosure, and am looking at mounting a dimming-type temperature probe connected to one of the branches to try and maintain a basking temperature around 85 - 89 degrees on the branch. But I’m wonder if doing so will cause the surface temperature of the hides and substrate underneath to be in the 75 - 79 degree range.

If the lower half of the enclosure ends up being in the cooler range, can I adjust the heating setup of the enclosure to be hot on the branches across the width of the entire enclosure, and then cooler at the floor of the enclosure? This would leave the tank with two zones, but the hot zone would be in the arboreal section of the enclosure and the cool zone would be at ground level (rather than the normal left is hot/ right is cool). Is this feasible?

My new girl

This is Nazu, my first corn snake (and probably the smallest snake I've ever owned). My husband is new to exotics so she's here to help build confidence, and she's got such a bold personality for it too

Am I on the right track here?

Looking for some constructive criticism please. I don’t have a snake yet, I’m making sure I have everything proper first. 40 gallons, with a CHE on a thermostat set to 83°F, and lights are on a timer. For substrate I did 40% top soil, 40% coco fiber, and 20% sand. I have leaf litter to add on top. There’s cork tube hides in there, some flat slate rocks, I also have a water dish I haven’t added yet. I’ll probably add some more plants, but hopefully I’m on the right track!

Wondering about weight + feeding

Hello!! I have a question about my first snake, Aurora, who I got at an expo back in September, and is about 3 years old or so (hatched in 2021).
I'm wondering if she's at a good weight? or possibly under/over? I've been following the feeding schedule the breeders had her on before i got her, which was a large mouse a week and when weighed yesterday she was 375 grams. As far as feedings go, she has only missed 1 which was when she was in shed (Her shed was perfect and was about 4' long if it helps, im not too sure how to take an accurate measurement of her actual weight).

Also any advice if i should be doing something else with feeding schedule is appreciated, im thinking the feedings should be spaced out more personally but I'd like to make sure if thats a good idea before i do since, this is my first time owning a snake. (Was going to add more pictures but ive never really posted on reddit before so im unsure how to do that, and also i dont know why the pictures so low quality either??)

Baby corn snake / power outage

My new corn snake - in my care for 36 hours - is 3 months old and just ate a pinky (my first feeding). Not an hour later, the power goes out. She is in a warm interior room. I have a travel carrier that I can put her in and take her someplace with power, but I’m reluctant to move her because she just took the pinky. Estimate is 2-3 hours.

I wrapped towels around the base of the enclosure to keep some heat in.

Doing my best here, but she is my first snake.

Thanks

LED lights

Hello!

(Future corn snake owner) I need to use LED light in my terrarium, because i don't have room in it for a lightbulb. The heating and other things are ticked, the light will be used as a day-night cycle.

What type of LED is okay for a corn snake? Are there any specific thing to look out for? What intensity is good?

Handling

So i got my beautiful baby not too long ago. I got her off of a rehoming group on FB. She’s about a year old, super shy and skiddish. While she is getting better about not hiding as much from me anymore she wasn’t handled a lot by her previous owner and I was wondering how I could get her accustomed to it?

So many climbing opportunities, and they still choose to do this

They usually do this when I haven't taken them out during the day. This is what Fuego zoomies look like. I did take them out after this though.

What is a good size enclosure for a young corn snake?

Sorry if this has already been answered but i’m thinking about getting a corn snake in the next year and have seen many varying answers. Since i want to get a younger/smaller snake what size enclosure should i get? do i start out with a large tank for when it grows or purchase a smaller one and upgrade when needed?

First ever vivarium!

I have a 20 month male corn snake! Last 6 months he lived ( and thrived) in a big plastic bin! I got him a 92 / 40 / 37 vivarium untill next year when i move him to his forever home (a 8 foot vivarium). I have a few dome heat lamps that i used on his smaller enclosures before. I drilled a fairly large hole on top of the vivarium and i places the hot end of the lamp on the outside so theres no potential burning the snake! I used aspen , added a jar with wet coco coir and a few enrichment bits and bobs! Im very open fpr suggestions!

My cornflakes bit me for the first time

Squishy (my cornsnake) bit me for the first time but I'm confused? So squishy is really fiesty when he is inside his tank and i go to grab him and this time he bit me which I don't blame him for at all because he gave me warnings and I didn't listen but once I get him out he is calm and chill? I'm so confused why is he fiesty in the tank but chill once I get him out?

Do corn snakes enjoy having somewhere to soak in water?

I’ve bought my little guy a new enclosure and it’s completely empty and I plan to set it up when I get home - my question is would they appreciate having a shallow puddle with some branches coming out of it. “He’s” got a humidity cave, some hiding spots under some cork wood as well as a clean up crew in his current setup I was just thinking of ways to improve his enrichment prospects.

Need a name for this little lady!

She’s a cutie pie & I can’t decide on what to call her. Just brought her home today & settling in very well so far. She’s been exploring her new home and very curious.

Girly re-exploring her two story apartment after a deep clean. 🥰

She looooooves to climb. ❤️

Thinking of adding a reptile relaxer, that hammock made of sea grass. Anyone using that already? I saw it at the pet shop and it looks like something she’d enjoy. ☺️

The shy shoelace is shy no more!

My beautiful shy little shoelace baby is finally becoming bold enough to hang out! Working with babies and watching their personalities and confidence develop is one of the most rewarding aspects of reptile keeping imo
