Dying Cornsnake Care. Advice requested and appreciated.

Noodle saw the vet today. She had regurgitated her last two meals and developed lumps that I didn't immediately notice because she'd been a little overweight and I assumed it was that, but when I reduced her food a little the weight dropped and these lumps remained. I just thought she as egg-bound but an xray showed no eggs. The vet said it is most likely cancer.

The vet has said that as she is currently alert, active and spry, that he doesn't think it would be right to put her to sleep immediately. To try her with pinky mice to see if they might get past any blockage (she is 4 years old and formerly eating large to jumbo mice) and care for her until she shows signs of suffering. Take time to say goodbye and all that.

Needless to say, I am gut-wrenchingly heartbroken right now. But I want to make sure I do what's best for her, so if anyone has any advice or shareable experience for this kind of end-of-life care, I could really do with hearing it right now. I'm not sure what to expect. How do I know when it's time? How long should I try with pinkies? If she can eat them without a regurge, should I do it more frequently or could that make it worse?

Picture added for any snake taxes I may incur.

Prospective corn owner, here! I have questions…

Hi! I’ve been looking into owning a corn snake for a little while and love reading on this sub about them and seeing everyone cute noodle pictures.

I have most of the “basic” care equipment ready to go and set up for a new little friend, but I have a few questions and tongs to finish setting up before bringing one home! These questions feel sort of specific and I’m having a hard time finding answers to some of them.

Thanks in advance!

  1. How many of y’all use tank clamps? Don’t worry, I have some! I’m just wondering if everyone uses them. And how many on each side of the tank you use…. I’m horrified of losing the snake!

1.5) How often do sub-adults to adults escape? The pinned post has me scared!

  1. I’ve read so many conflicting comments and posts about aspen vs coconut fiber. I currently have coconut fiber set up for the potential new friend and am wondering what your personal experiences have been with both?

  2. What hearing strategies do you all use at night? My house is usually around 72 degrees but I’m planning on keeping a heater of some sort on overnight for the new friend.

3.5) Do you use an under tank pad on a thermostat, ceramic heater on thermostat, or infrared heat bulb at night?

  1. Other than mice, what do you feed? I’m wondering how to vary the potential new guy’s diet.

4.5) How often do you use supplements and if you do, what kind? I’ve heard mixed opinions about calcium and D3.

Soft wheezing after switching to bio dude's "Terra Firma" substrate with a tiny bit of reptisoil??

It's a tiny wheeze that I only notice right after she's been digging, and it goes away while I'm holding here, but I'm w little bit more than a little concerned, because wheezing is never good.... any insight? Anyone else use Terra Firma for their corns??

I feel terrible

I feel terrible because I have only just started earning money (I'm 18) and because my parents bought me a corn snake 7 years ago, they guy was being evicted because him and his wife had split and she took the house and sold it, for the first 2 yearsI followed his advice, strictly wood chips, red light and any ordinary white light and a heat pad under the substrate, 3 hides, no climbing stuff because they don't climb and a water bath that took up half the enclosure and he also told me to keep her in the same enclosure because it would spook her if I changed it, she was in a 40 gallon, she was 4 years old at the time.

We upgraded her to a 80 gallon after 2 years and got her some new hides.

she is now 11 years old, still in a 120 gallon, still has a red light and a light made for reptiles, a water bath, 2 hides (got another coming within the next week) and a substrate made of 55% top soil, 30% play sand and 15% wood chips, she also has a branch that spans from one wall to the other and also connects to the ceiling and the back wall, she also has a couple tunnels (bendable plastic tubing slightly bigger than her so she won't get stuck but feels secure) that are buried in the substrate and a hide that is under the substrate that the tubes lead to, I'm going to buy some greenery (should i get real or fake?) For clutter, I have fed her a large mouse once a week and she is not under weight or over weight and she is just over 5 feet long and very healthy despite her terrible past.

And I feel terrible because apparently red lights are bad for them and the substrate is bad for them and the tunnels stress them out. Is this true?

Which heat lamp is best for my enclosure?

Enclosure is 2.5 feet (76.2 cm) tall.

Bulb pictured is incorrect and I’m looking to switch it out, the fixture is a Himifuture ceramic bracket for E27.

Do I need to get a bigger bulb guard?

Corn is stuck under the toilet rim

So I got a call from someone at my mom's church that just got a corn snake. The snake is/ was temporarily in a glorified tub that the previous owners had him in. The girl is getting a proper cage tomorrow but while she was out, she stored the tub in the bathroom and when she came back, the snake escaped and is now not budging from under the toilet rim. There's a towel in the toilet so the snake can't go into the piping but any advice on how to get it out would be great. We've tried chicken (she doesn't have rats ATM) but the snake seems quite content despite the cold.

Lid locks for ZoomMed front opening tanks

I purchased a 361818 ZooMed front opening terrarium as an upgrade for my corn. I didn't test the lids and he escaped on day 3. We caught the snake later and in testing the lid, it seems almost worthless. It takes very little pressure to push up from the inside. There doesn't seem to be anything broken. Just the fitment is bad. The lid has enough left/right play that it won't solidly stay clipped in. Are there any aftermarket clips I can add to these tanks or am I stuck trying to glue it in or weigh it down with bricks?

Sad corn story

My sister used to work at a petco where people surrendered pets all the time. One day a man came walking in with a baby corn snake saying “I found this snake walking the sidewalk in my neighborhood. Please just take it”. So my sister immediately called me and asked if I wanted it. Of course I did. So I went out and bought everything for her. This was my first corn snake and I already had a ball python. I grew so attached to her and she was my favorite of all my reptiles. She got out of her enclosure three different times. The first time I didn’t shut the tank all the way (exo terra front opening). Found her in a shoe. The second time I didn’t close the lid all the way in her feeding cage. I had walked away while she was swallowing. I found her behind my dresser. I can’t remember how she got out the third time.. I just remember turning her enclosure inside out and finding nothing. Searched my ENTIRE room top to bottom in every little crevice. nothing. Searched every nearby room. I even bought a live mouse and left it in my room with the hopes that she’d be attracted to the scent but nothing. To this day I never found her.. and I hate myself for it. It’s been a little over a year and I just hope that she went out quickly. We have 3 medium sized dogs and two cats. The dogs are scared of my ball python but my cats love to kill small things. So I’m left forever wondering what ever happened to her. This is just one of those things I will not forgive myself for. 💔

is she small for her age?

this is spore, she's almost 11 months old and weighs 15.4g as of today. from what i've read online, she should be twice as big! is this too small? the breeder told me she was getting one pinky mouse once a week. i've only had her for about a week but her feeding schedule is a large pinky every 5 days. will she eventually catch up to normal size?

PS. she pooped on me shortly after taking this picture. it was terrible

Is it beneficial to diversify diet?

I was thinking about feeding some quail from time to time (or some other fooda). Is it good for snakes or sticking with just mice/rats is fine?

bioactive vs artificial set up

I did a little bit of googling and didn’t find anything that really set either of them apart from the other. I’m completely new to snakes, but my sister LOVES them so I am trying to be supportive. But i thought i would try toget some different opinions. I have a green thumb and love plants so a bioactive tank is definitely intriguing. I also keep seeing that bioactive is a lot less matinence. I was also taking cost efficiency into account because i am a broke college student. Anyway, i thought id post and get some differing opinions. Thank you!

temporary enclosure size

I have an almost 2 year old corn snake who is housed in a 4x2x2 (48x24x24) in my classroom. I purchased it for her last summer when she was at my house; transporting it to school was a MASSIVE hassle. I plan on bringing her home again this summer, but want to get a new enclosure for my house so I don't have to transport the giant enclosure. I'm wondering if everyone can give me their thoughts on whether or not it would be okay to get a 36x18x18 for my house instead of the full one she's in now, since she'll only be in it for 2 months of the year. I plan on using the same substrate, decorations, etc. Thoughts? Thanks!

Is this regurgitation

Sorry for the unpleasant picture but I’m just confused, I fed him 2 days ago (his second hopper meal) and today I saw this under the substrate. He doesn’t have any decor or enrichment items with this sort of texture but this was all there was there wasn’t any more signs of possible further regurgitation. Could this be it ? Thank you so much for the reply
