Love her!
So, recently my cornsnake isn’t eating her food, she bites it gently and eats it halfway before spitting it out, it happened two times so far. After spitting it out though, she still wants to eat it but starts from the middle..?
Would it be better to wait two weeks to let her heal or what do I do to make her eat her food fully? She had no problem eating them until about two weeks ago…
Hey guys i got a corn snake recently and we got this bc i know its good for their shedding etc but how do we use it? Is it okay to place this around her enclosure on items and rocks
I’ve heard both sides to the story, and what’s really weird is that people say feeding the snake in its enclosure will associate the door opening to food, and people say not feeding the snake in its enclosure it will associatenot being in its terrarium with food (I.e. during handlings, maintenance, check ups, etc etc).
I’m just curious about everyone’s experiences and thoughts on the matter. Does your snake seem more or less aggressive in or out of their enclosure based on if you feed inside or outside of the terrarium respectively? Or does it not matter at all?
Thanks!! :)
I’ve just gotten a huge tank for my corn snake chop stick and it’s gonna be his huge mansion for the majority of his life. Yet I’m not quite sure how to clean it, I was told to use white vinegar with a rag?
It used to be owned by my grandmas old turtle and I want to make sure I clean it properly so my baby boy won’t get sick or panic because it smells like a turtle. Or whatever could make him panic.
Any and all tips would be useful!
Alright so some of you may already know this, but for those who are new or are struggling to find decor they like for their tank, this is for you.
I’m still pretty new to this myself, but I thought I’d share some of the stuff I’ve learned about decorating my tank for my boy Cornelius.
Often I look up decor or enrichment and I find the prices can be a bit high sometimes. A fun way to decorate can be to DIY stuff! For example, I found my old rainbow loom from when I was maybe 10, and ended up making a bunch of “rope” bridges for my boy. That, and I also had some dollar store twine laying around and braided some strands into “vines”.
The dollar store is honestly a great place to find materials and possible decorations. I found a clear hanging terrarium and filled it with some soil, glued some plants to the outside of it, and turned it into a hide for my little guy. I also made some platforms out of popsicle sticks that he loves to climb on! Best part is it cost me maximum of $5.
Another great thing are pop sockets! My dollar store has a bunch of cheap ones, and they are awesome for lining the walls with. My boy loves to climb on them and it helps him. It also is fun to make an obstacle course with them. Only thing is to make sure you replace the adhesive with something more secure and safe for your friend, as it can be dangerous for them if the socket falls off and leaves the adhesive behind.
My dollar store also had these weird plastic backdrops that I used as backgrounds for my old tank! It blended in real nice next to my actual background I had.
One thing I’ve noticed is that the selection of decor for snakes is very limited to vines, hammocks, and basking spots. That’s fine, but I want more enrichment for my snek.
When looking for decor, I suggest looking at bird toys or jumping spider enrichment! The hanging toys for birds seem so interesting, and they have nice ladders for low prices on Amazon too!
Also, certain dog toys work good too. Specifically the ball with all the holes in it. (Fun fact, they make one for birds too that hangs from the top of their cage).
For a pop of color, I look for silk plants meant for fish. Some of my snakes favorite decor is my pink and purple silk plants. He loves to drape himself over them and they work great as platforms! The color doesn’t run either, since they’re meant for water.
Let me explain-
I have this crochet hanging plant meant to hang from the mirror of my car, but my car has been in the shop since April. I had no use for this! I put it in my tank, and my boy LOVES using it as a sky hide.
While I haven’t looked at many car ornaments, I’m sure the crochet ones or mirror ones can be implemented into tanks nicely to help!
I’ll update this if anything else comes to mind :)
he has his decor as you can see, there’s 2 digital thermometers, an under heat mat, a day bulb for heat(wanna switch to HVB), and his substrate is a mix of cypress and coco, with moss and a little aspen from his old tank. Any bedding ideas will be greatly appreciated
I just woke up and my snake is not moving, he’s about 5 months and he ate 4 days ago, his water has been full, and his enclosure’s temperature is good. i’m so sad and confused. i don’t know what went wrong. i’ve always made sure he’s well taken care of, i don’t know what i did. please help, im beyond sad i have no idea what to do.
I will be raising a corn snake in the future, and I was wondering, can I get the biggest terrarium meant for an older corn snake? I don't want to spend on a smaller terrarium to save money. But then, I want the best for my snake. I will be doing my best to make sure my future corn snake does not suffer.
I’m a new corn snake owner and was wondering if my bedding choose is good and if not what I should use Rn I use a mix of reptisoil, coconut fiber, and sphagnum moss. I’ve heard coconut fiber is bad from some mine came as a brick and I would cut some off and soak it to where it’s not dripping but damp and same with the moss and I put 90% reptisoil and I mix it all together there’s also a big of wood chips but barely any and I’ve heard it’s good and I’ve heard it’s bad and I’d hate for her to have bad bedding I’d love if I did have to get alternatives if they were cost friendly since I definitely don’t have a lot of money but even if it’s not I’ll find a way to get it for her any advice is appreciated
We're getting my brother a cornsnake for Christmas after he's begged for a few months. The whole family has done lots of research both online and talking to other snake owners. We got a baby cornsnake who is staying with grandma until Christmas. Despite our research I'm a bit anxious to take on this new pet. Are there any additional tips or advise we might not know yet?
i’ve seen a lot of misleading information on how to tell the difference between male corns and females. some sites say males are larger than females, some say the opposite. some say that a male’s tail is thicker and shorter than a female’s, some say the opposite. what is the truth? how can you tell?
i have a hognose and it’s usually very easy to tell the difference. is it the same with corns? or is it like ball pythons where you have to probe or pop to tell?
i got my corn from a pet shop so they weren’t sexed and i would like to know its sex!
Mr. Fun always comes out to say “hello” if he hears me/notices me looking at him. I know it’s probably a food response, but it gets me every time when he just pops out of nowhere and starts coming up to the glass. 😂
Was cleaning up some poop from my snakes tank, and assuming they were either hungry or startled. But she managed to strike and coil around my hand. I didn't panic or rip her off, just allowed her to coil and had my boyfriend remove her once her mouth latched off my finger. She left a few bite marks as if her mouth slid down my finger(happened so fast). As we were checking on her, one of her left front top teeth is slightly sticking out over her bottom lip. Is this a huge concern? Do the teeth grow back? Anything to look out for, or should we be rushing to the animal hospital tomorrow?
(We still plan to ask our local feeder shop for advice as well and if need be, a vet or hospital! We are new snake owners, had her for a year now and always learn something new! Please share experiences or advice!! Thank you!)
TLDR; snake bit my finger and coiled, and was NOT removed by force but now her top front left tooth is slightly sticking out of her mouth.
My snake was having her second shed with me I knew because her eyes were cloudy for a few days and when I checked on her today her eyes were back to normal but I couldn’t find her shed anywhere and don’t know if that’s normal or if something went wrong with shedding she is really smooth and shiny so I think she shed but I can’t find it am I wrong and it was something else because the first shed was all in one piece and she shed overnight
Is normal windex/glass cleaner safe to use? I am just worried about any residue being dangerous, since I see my snake against the glass sometimes. I have been putting it off since I’m not sure how I should clean it safely, but the glass is getting a little dirty.
It caught me so off guard when he did this. Usually he strikes pretty fast and hard but this was the first time he pulled it back all the way and wrapped himself around it. But as I’m watching the video it kinda looks like when he struck the pinkie got stuck on his tooth? Am I just over analyzing?
