What’s the best material for creating the ground in dioramas? I used a paper mache product ages ago, but I never liked it because it warped the wood I used as a base and it peeled away around the edges. Surely there’s a better alternative.
The MikroMir page on Facebook has rendereds of the De Havilland Canada RO-6A in 1:144 scale that will be released by AMP
What’s the best way to glue resin pieces? I’ve always used a two-part epoxy, but I’m wondering whether there’s a better option.
I have to airbrush paint the above cockpit piece a tan colour however, the door including its liner should be pale grey. The transition from the liner of the door to the flat wall is a small fillet which might prove difficult to mask.
I’ve had limited success with Maskol as it tends to be difficult to define an edge and masking tape that can be curved tends to be such low tack it comes off. In another thread, I saw someone commenting on white PVA glue mixed with a tiny amount of water and a drop of detergent to break the surface tension making a good masking liquid. Has anyone had success with this?
If it’s usable, I can paint the whole thing pale grey, then mask the door and apply the tan. Open to any suggestions.
Hi everyone. Wanted some advice about starting again with the hobby.
I’ve always moaned about not having time to build models. Now, thanks to major surgery, I’m off work for six weeks.
So, my mate bought me this to get me back into the hobby I loved 30+ years ago.
Id like some advice regarding painting. When I was a kid, I’d buy the paints and paint the kit and that was that. Now, I see all sorts of kits and sprays and all sorts. Also, back in the day, I’d use enamel paints. Now, it seems you can only get acrylic paints which for military scale modelling seems a bit rubbish?
Anyway, was hoping to get some advice about what to do with this kit:
are there kits for the painting people could recommend? Sprays, brushes etc.
same as above for the building - is it worth getting vices and stuff or just a simple kit from Amazon or some such retailer?
people recommended clubs, but it seems the nearest clubs to me are far away. (I live in London) - is this something I should consider?
any other advice or help would be welcome
Thanks everyone
I'm super frustrated right now. Even though I take my time, things keep happening that I just don't understand. For example, when I use masking tape, I end up pulling off both the primer and paint. I'm using Mr. Finishing Surfacer 1500 as a primer, combined with Vallejo Air.
For decals, I tried gloss varnish for the first time, and it looks like I just coughed on the model—super blotchy. Apparently, I'm also not the best at applying decals because they shine like an oil slick, and when I try to remove excess water from underneath, I somehow always end up rubbing off paint and primer. On top of that, the decals keep tearing apart.
All of this makes me leave my model sitting for days while I watch YouTube videos, seeing how others create insanely good-looking models, and then compare them to my sad attempt. I keep thinking that if I just buy the same products they use, it will get better—but it doesn’t really help.
I just wanted to vent a little and see if anyone else feels the same way.
Has anyone purchased train items from Hobby Pocket for delivery to USA?
I'm looking to make a ring myself and I wanted to know the name of these kind of golden studs on the tunrbuckle pads.
I want to know the name and where I can find it please.
It's like 3 or 4mm wide and maybe a 2mm wide rod.
My second Bandai build. Have any thoughts?
I bought one of these from Micro Mark years ago and lived it because it removes seams much more effectively than an Xacto blade, but I must have lost it during a recent move, and Micro Mark doesn’t appear to sell them anymore. I was surprised to find no similar options by googling it. Any ideas for a substitute?
In the interest of transparency, I am a Warhammer 40k fan and mostly build/paint those models. However, I have run into an issue. I want my warning labels and stickers to make sense on my models. I wasn't able to find what I was looking for on Google, but I wanted to reach out to you guys hoping you might know what I'm looking for. Is there a guide on how warning labels and stickers are placed on Military vehicles?
