USS Constitution

I’m about to start the rigging on this model. Any tips or warnings about how to rig the masts? There are so many strings crisscrossing in the manual it’s intimidating.

Best ways to clean model ships?

Picked up this model shop from a thrift store. Thought it would look super nice once it’s all clean but I’ve never done anything like it. Any tips for cleaning it up?

Searching for fully assembled model

Does anyone have a fully assembled model of the USS HOGA tug boat that they'd be willing to part with? Preferably the Billings wooden model.

Will pay.

King Kong (2005) ship SS Venture

Does anybody make a model of a tramp steamer that would resemble the SS Venture From the 2005 King Kong?

Project 1125 armored river boat border troops version

A 'what if' version of the WW2 armored river boat Project 1125. The white color on the deck, turret, and MRL launcher is meant to represent post war boats used by the Soviet border troops in the 1950s-60s and the border troops of various post Soviet states in the 90s.

Type E class missile boat (incomplete)

So here's a concept of the Type E-class missile boat.

This is a boat I designed in Blender as a concept for the Hellenic navy, given how backward and outdated their fleet is.

There is also an unarmed version I designed for the coast guard and for civilian use, without the missile launchers and the round radar on the roof.

The design is partially inspired by the Zulfighar-class air defense boat and the Peykaap II and III-class fast partol/attack craft used by the IRGC navy.

All it needs now is a little bit of paint, though I'm not sure whether I should use Acrylic, Enamel, Lifecolor, or otherwise.

I'm looking into sailing ship models and curious if these are OK for starters?.

I would love something simple to start with, but also something with a little rigging. I wasn't sure if this is OK for a Starter model, or if there is something else that has a little rigging with shrouds available?.

Question about Stain/oil/varnish

Hello everyone!

I recently purchased my first model ship to build, Paddle Steamer King of the Mississippi. 1:80 Wooden Model Kit by Artesania Latina.

I had some questions about how to stain or dye the accent woods. I foolishly thought the woods would all be different types and I could oil the wood at the end… I’m realizing that’s not the case lol

I’m hoping to get a similar look to the design on the box, but also I’m not super particular.

I would love to avoid anything that gives a glossy finish, are there any suggestions? The instructions call for water based dye? Would any flat water based oil or stains do? I’m out of my element any help appreciated!!

Progress Report: OcCre Apostol Felipe - Hull planking question

https://preview.redd.it/ghnvb6jg1gee1.jpg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d9b63d83f48b840c9fab8417021dbc0bd6296c95

I am coming up on finishing the first planking of the hull on this project. I'm actually surprised on how quickly this is coming together. I did have some issues with the upper precut plywood panels and how I got them to bend up around the bow. I steamed the plywood which didn't work too well, so I ended up soaking the plywood in boiling water. The plywood did come delaminated which allowed for the board to bend around the glass mold I am using. After it dried, I applied glue in between the layers when I did the final glue-up and nailing of it. They did turn out correctly. The pictures shows the progress just before this weekend. I'm down to about five strips of planking per side as of this afternoon. The planking strips are a dream to bend and shape with this build. Manual states it is "Ramin."

I did have a question regarding the preferred method of wood filler, for when I finish the first layer of planking and needing to fair the hull before the second layer of mahogany is applied. What's the best wood filler to use?
