A place to post plastic scale models, diorama's, works in progress, questions and tutorials.

Welcome to Reddit's Plastic Modelling sub.

If your post gets deleted by auto moderation, please read the posting guidelines below.

This sub serves as a platform to share the world's very best scale models you found on the web, to serve as a source of inspiration or just to enjoy the art created by the worlds best modelers. Posts in this sub may seem far in between sometimes, mainly due to the fact that real world class miniature dioramas, busts or figures only come along once in a while. Anyone can post an album of a model or diorama if they think it fits the sub.

Questions you might have regarding plastic modelling can be posted too, although it might be advisable to do this in a sub like /r/modelmakers as you will have a better chance at a response. Tutorials and workshop videos are welcome too.

Please keep the posting format in mind when typing out your submission title.

[q] I’ve recently started building Star Wars model kits and have a newcomer question - what do I use on the guns to give them the soft highlights/depth seen in this image instead of being completely dark black?

[Q] what is a good airbrush to get?

I'm looking into buying an airbrush that is relatively cheap as I'm working on a large model and hand painting it will take forever and use a lot of paint. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated, thankyou!

[1/25] wip Moebius 1961 Pontiac Catalina

I just started painting the 1961 Pontiac Catalina in tamiya lacquer spray orange, added the front grille with headlights and bumper, rear taillights with rear bumper, front and rear glass. I also used a chrome pen on the outside of front and rear glass and door sills

[Q] Best/Strongest cement or glue?

Hi everyone! This is not a kit model per se BUT if anyone knows products related to plastics out there, it is this group!

My youngest son broke a piece of his older brother's vintage $500 Transformer figure and I need some suggestions for the best and strongest cement glue for it. It is a joint so I plan on reinforcing it by drilling some 0.1 mm holes and using steel pins and then greasing up the joint so it is easier to move.

I have heard of some cements that slightly "melt" the plastic to achieve better adhesion (?). Any suggestions?

Normally, I would use my plastic welder but this is a tiny tab on a flap so micro-drilling and gluing it is. If it doesn't work, I might end up scanning and 3D printing the whole chest plate the flap is attached to but I am hoping not to have to do that.

My older son worked and saved hard to buy this for himself and I would like to fix it if I can. He is 19 and autistic, this is his first job and his Gen 1Transformers collection is one of his most prized possessions. He is gutted but he can understand why his room is so alluring to his baby brother... it looks like a toy store display. This is not relevant to my question of course, but this kid has overcome so much and proven every doctor wrong his entire life, so my mommy bear instincts want to jump in and help. My youngest son has since learned his lesson and my oldest will spend some $$ to get a lockable display case for the more rare pieces of his collection.

TIA for any suggestions.

[Q] beginner questions. Hopefully this isn't the millionth time asked actually created this account just to ask. I'm getting a model car and was going to use brushes, except for primer and maybe body, and was wondering what the best paint to use is for brushes. I will buy an airbrush eventually.

Also best spray can options if possible. Thank you!
