Tiki culture is a celebration of tropical escapism. It's a longing for the time when Pacific islands were still exotic locales that inspired Donn Beach and Trader Vic to create their own versions back home. It all started in 1934 with the first Don the Beachcomber tiki restaurant, and was rejuvenated in the mid-90's with the printing of The Book of Tiki by Sven Kirsten.
Pull up a chair, sip your Mai Tai, and study the tapa-covered ceiling while listening to the sounds of the Hukilau.

Had this at Trader Vic’s back in June. I remember it won some cocktail competition and had four different rums in it. Super good but all I have is a picture of the tiki mug. Any help would be appreciated. Would like to replicate it.
I'm thinking of tiki drinks specifically, of course. Do I need a Haitian rum? Barbadian? A less-intense Jamaican rum? Cruzan or Goslings? I'm open to buying 3-4 more bottles.
I've got:
Plantation 3 Stars
Smith and Cross
Neisson Rhum Agricole Blanc
El Dorado 12
El Dorado 5
Wray & Nephew White Overproof
Thrashers Green Spiced Rum (local distillery)
This came up in a bar memes Facebook post asking for suggestions on how to burn the bottles.. Personally? I can see subbing that chai for allspice dram.
As for the Elvis stuff....
Well.. it seems as though someone took screwball peanutbutter whiskey and mixed in some Banana liquor..
Seems like there could be some tiki adjacent potential there.
What say the hive mind?
I had one on me and my wifes anniversary and I have been craving one to take me back to that moment... I see a few out there but I am not sure if the proportions are correct and it doesn't seem to be the correct rum, gin etc any help appreciated.
New Wheel in the Disco Diver!
Prepping for our NYE party which means lots of little projects including finalizing the wheel.
Eventually, a scene will fire when someone spins the wheel.
I’m gonna be on the Kona side of HI Big Island. Wondering about tiki opportunities.
Anything I can bring back? I’m thinking maybe some better version of that Li Hing Mui powder?
What to drink there? I’ve heard POG juice and rum are good. Any opinions on the best POG juice? Best type of rum with said juice?
Bars? It looks like they have some quasi tiki things on the beach in Kailua. Hard to tell if the drinks are legit.
I'm throwing a holiday party with a tiki theme next week. I have a few friends who don't drink alcohol and I'd like to have a pre-mixed mocktail ready to go. I have a few 1liter bottles with stoppers I can use to batch.
Thoughts? Thanks!
My satsuma trees are loaded down this year and would love to incorporate them into a tiki drink. Any recommendations for drinks that use mandarin juice or where it might be a good substitute? Thinking about about making some liqueur with it as well.
Hi! I know nothing about tiki but my husband just got a copy of smugglers cove and I would like to get him some gifts for Christmas. He doesn’t have any mugs, accessories, etc and I was hoping for some guidance on the best starter tiki gifts! Willing to spend a couple hundred, but no firm budget. Thanks!!
I love a nice daiquiri, and have heard I shouldn't care what anybody else thinks, but sort of feel guilty putting pricier rums into a daiquiri. What do you think?
If you’re in Austin you can see his work displayed at the original Kirby lane cafe. I bought a piece for my home tiki bar. Thought you all would enjoy. It’s kind of rockabilly/punk/Tiki
I have a 1st edition in perfect condition and I see it selling for thousands of dollars on amazon and $500 on ebay. Is it really worth that much? What's a reasonable price to sell for? Thanks!
Visiting NYC next week, staying near the Yankee stadium apparently…
Hoping to grab some rums that I can’t get in the uk, anything to add to the list:
Lemon Hart 151 Dr Bird Something by Hamilton
Anything else I’m missing out on?
Also, any nearby bar recs?
Looking for more artifacts
Trying to infuse some rum with cranberries. It seems like I have three options.
Anyone has experience with this or has any suggestions? Thanks!
Wanted to post this for the mug swap. I mainly Collect Disney mugs from trader sams and other places they do lugs or glassware, and then majority of my non Disney mugs are bars I’ve been or stuff from like trader Vic’s as well as events and things that have meaning to me. The top shelf are my more expensive not mass produced mugs. Majority from Eekum Bookum!
SINGAPORE SLING
1 1/2 Parts Gin (I used Dorthy Parker)
1/2 Part Cherry Heering
1/4 Part DOM Benedictine
1/4 Part Demerara Syrup
3/4 Part Lemon Juice
1 Dash Angostura Bitters
1 Dash Orange Bitters
2 Part Soda Water added after shaking
This drink has officially made it on my go to list. It’s as easy to make as it is to drink. It reminds me a lot of a Pimms Cup which I also love.
PS The double umbrella garnish was not worth the effort. Do all umbrellas suck or just mine?
