Participants needed for a paid and online study!

Hi members of r/RichmondBC!

I am a Research Assistant at the Concussion Outcomes Recovery and TECH Interventions (CORTECH) Lab at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia. Dr. Jacqueline Purtzki (principal investigator) and Dr. Cairncross (co-investigator) are seeking adolescents aged 12-18 years who have had a concussion in the past 6 months and their caregivers to participate together in our paid and online study that evaluates the user-friendliness and credibility of an online concussion resource guide designed for adolescents called “My Guide Concussion – Teen Edition”.

In our study, we want to find out what teenagers and their caregivers think about the “MyGuide Concussion – Teen Edition” website and how it can be improved.

Interested individuals may be eligible for participation if they:

  • Are an adolescent between 12-18 years old who had a concussion within the past 6 months and reports at least one bothersome symptom attributable to a concussion OR

  • Are able to read and understand English AND

Trick or treat

Dear community members,

Tonight is Halloween and I know of several older teens that are planning on trick-or-treating. I'm asking the community to indulge these teens and not ridicule them for dressing up and knocking on doors. Teens today are not doing it for the candy .... they're doing it because they want to dress up and be a part of something fun. Schools are also asking trick or treaters to donate their candy to their schools for the homeless.

Please give them your most upmost respect and they will respect you back. I remember when I was a kid there was rioting, vandalism and kids throwing firecrackers at houses and people.

Thank you for your consideration.

Why are there so many Indian working at fast food or retail stores?

Everywhere I go in Richmond are most likely filled with Indian workers.

Superstore, Canadian tire, FreshCo, save on, london drug, shoppers, Tim hortons, mcd, cellphone stores, price smart, Burger King, some stores in RC, Wendy’s, sportchek, mark’s, Walmart, toys r us, gas stations and many more.

Some of them don’t even bother putting on deodorant when they’re dealing with customers.

What changed ? I barely see any HS kids working or any other people. I remember usually the young people are working at those jobs.

Are they all foreign temp workers? That’s a lot of them and Richmond is mostly Chinese.

Small chip in corner of glass top stove

So at our previous apartment I damaged the corner of the glasstop stove. It was already very scuffed and old when we first moved in. Now the landlord is taking over 700 dollars for the purchase of a new stove. I had hoped to buy a used stove to replace the damage. And the old stove still fully works its just cosmetic damage in one corner. Is it fair for them to charge us for a new one?

Handing out pokemon cards in steveston tonight!

So i bought a pack of trick or treat Pokémon card packs. We never get trick or treaters at our house due to it being in the farm land and not safe for walking at night. (No sidewalks)

So tonight i will be in a red panda onsie skateboarding around steveston handing out Pokémon packs. If u see me scooting by give me a wave or a "gotta catch em all" shout for some packs of cards.

Cant wait too see everyone in their costumes tonight!!!!

Also if anyone knows of some good areas to go to let me know!!

RANT - SPEEDERS took my $; won't return my calls/msgs

Just as the title says, Speeders, the go kart place which has been under renovation allowed me to reserve my birthday party of 16 people about a month ago, promising they would be open in time for my party (nov 9th). I paid 50% up front to secure the date ($800+). They wouldn't give me an exact re-opening date (understandable) but ASSURED me that they'd re-open in time for my birthday party. Being that my event date is coming soon, I've called SEVERAL times, and have left a handful of voice mail msgs, stressing my concern that the date is just around the corner, and no announcement has been made for an opening date. I've sent emails, posted on their social media page... nothing - no response. I'm upset because I was legitimately STOKED to check out their new facility (multi-level go kart racing, laser tag, AR axe throwing and darts and even VR racing). I don't understand how you can promise that you'll be open, take peoples' money and then completely vanish. At this point, only 9 days prior to my birthday, I think I'm going to call mastercard and dispute the transaction. Super disappointed. I used to love this place. I don't think I'll be going back after this interaction.

All that said, I strongly advise you to NOT make reservations until they officially re-open. They had previously promised to re-open "end of summer 2024". 2 months later, they're still not open and haven't provided any updates. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Looking for suggestions for a new activity.

Anyways, /rant

MASSIVE firefighting presence at the THM on Elmbridge rn

Not sure what's going on. Firefighters were looking for something in the yard of TMH with flashlights and there was even a k9 unit. There's no smoke or other signs of fire.

Looking for participants for a South Asian Adult Children of Alcoholics for a Masters thesis research study.

Looking for participants for a South Asian Adult Children of Alcoholics for a Masters thesis research study.

I'm looking for individuals within Canada who are South Asian Adult Children of Alcoholics for my Masters thesis research study. Therefore, I'm hoping to post on this forum to gain participants. I've attached a brief description of my study.

"I am conducting a research study exploring the experiences of South Asian ACoAs (Adult Children of Alcoholics) and the meaning they associate with alcoholism. I am seeking to interview individuals raised in South Asian households with an alcoholic parent or one who misused alcohol, to better understand the cultural and mental health dynamics involved.

If you know anyone who may be interested in participating, I am looking for South Asian ACoAs who:

Identify as South Asian and were raised in a South Asian household.

Lived with a parent who struggled with alcoholism or alcohol misuse.

Are 19 years or older.

Are fluent in English for a 1-2 hour online interview.

Participation is voluntary, and participants can withdraw at any time. If interested, please contact me at Shobia.vaseeharan@mytwu.ca or 604 446 5229."

Thank you so much.

What is the best way to get a job in Richmond?

I am a teenager, soon to be adult, and I haven't really had much luck in finding a job for some time now. I've tried going on indeed and applying to some stuff there, but I've had difficulties getting responses to my application. And I'm not really picky so I've applied to a multitude of job types. Is this a problem with my resume or should I go elsewhere to find a job? What places should I go to to find job openings?

Is Mr. Pretzels Closed?

I walked past the (former?) Mr. Pretzel booth at Richmond Centre to find black boards covering the area of the piping of the old booth. Did they quietly close down or are they planning to return with renovations made to the pretzel spot? I remember every time I walked past there when I go to the mall now there wasn’t much of a lineup, but I remember when it opened back in 2016 and there was a massive lineup for weeks on end waiting to get their hands on a pretzel. I’m guessing they couldn’t keep up with business expenses and whatnot and they went under.
