Before posting a question, please take a time to read our Wiki, it includes our FAQ, our modding tutorial, the subreddit rules, and some common recommended mods.
Regarding The Wiki:
/r/oblivion strives, in part, to be a community where users can learn how to best enjoy their game. Our wiki should be a resource that every one of our users can go to when they need help, for bugs, or mods, or anything about Oblivion. At the moment it is sorely lacking, and we'd like to remedy that.
If you want to help us out, please send us a message so we can add you as a contributor! If we see you commenting thoughtfully, we'll probably send you a message first, but unfortunately we don't see everyone. Being a contributor even has a few special perks, but they're a secret for the moment. Again, this is a resource the entire community should be able to learn from, and we really need your help.
Thanks.

Regarding Bugs:
Quite often on this sub we get users who ask for help for bugs, or with mods, that have been solved before. To reduce this clutter, we have a link search filter. To save everyone some time, try searching for bugs that might be similar to any you are having. Remember to add keywords if your problem is a specific one.

I played Oblivion when it first came out and though I started with Morrowind, Oblivion holds a special place in my heart. That said, I recall playing originally and getting to a point where I was running past enemies because I just couldn’t output enough damage to keep up with the sheer number of high level enemies. Still loved the game and played it several times over.
I’d like to do another playthrough and wondering if anyone has suggestions on an arcane archer build that doesn’t use stealth. I know how people talk about stealth archers being OP and being the best way to play but stealth bores me. If you’re familiar with the arcane archer from D&D, I would love to be able to build something like that (though I’d like to avoid how badly that class sucks) in Oblivion where I can wield a bow and magic simultaneously.
Curious if anyone has recommendations on how to proceed.
I ended up going with the skeleton key, since I can cast unlock very hard. I feel like for RP purposes, getting rid of the skeleton key is a bit of a mistake, but it just makes the most sense, as it's practically useless to me. What are some of the ones you're happy to part with?
This Knights of the Nine quest calls for you to go to the chapel in Chorrol and speak to Areldur (who should be inside near the gauntlets) to proceed. My issue is Areldur is no where to be found. I have tried uninstalling/installing the DLC & game, and going back to old saves to see if Areldur is there. Even some tips I’ve seen on google with punching a quest character, getting arrested, then coming back to chapel…still no Areldur.
Anyone experience this?
I saw a comment where some guy added soul trap to his 100% weakness to shock/magic spell, why? Is this an exploit to increase the damage?
Hello everyone. I'm brand new to oblivion and am looking for advice on building my first mage. My dream build would be a conjuration/destruction mage who has a one handed weapon as backup for when things get too close. my idea is to make a Breton with the apprentice sign but that's where my knowledge stops. i have no clue what specialization, favored attributes, or major skills should be.I dont want to over scale or level too quickly but I don't really care about "efficient leveling" or staying at low levels the entire game. any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks.
Looking to buy the game physically on Xbox 360/PlayStation 3. I only care about story DLC being on disc, if things like horse armour are digital code only then that’s fine for me. Otherwise if the story content is not entirely in disc, I won’t bother getting it there.
Like when you wear the grey cowl of nocturnal you have a bounty of 500 gold, that´s less than a bounty for murdering someone like why, he has over 100 infamy but has a bounty lower than that of someone who murdered some orc adventurer in a dungeon?
What I mean is are there mods that actually give you a full sentence of dialogue to ask someone in a conversation, rather than just 1 word questions like "rumors" or "Bruma"?
Thanks!
I’m far into a save that I have neglected anything magicka related once again. I wanted to cast a spell that requires level 75 restoration (mine was like 30). I didn’t want to do the boring spam easy restoration spell for hours to level up so I did the ring stack dupe where the rings are enchanted with fortify restoration. My restoration is now like 78 and I still can’t cast. I assume fortify doesn’t work and the actual base level needs to be 75+?
Hi, I was just wondering if there is a way to buy the deluxe edition separately as it is does not let me buy it on steam, it says I already on the game of the year edition so I can't buy 2 copies of the same game. I read that the deluxe edition has more added dlc but I can't buy it because it's not available separately, it's only part of a bundle. Is there a way I can get it?
I recently found out that i need it to activate the shrine of sethis but i sold it a long time ago , does anyone here know the command code for it?.
No matter what kind of destruction spell Ive crafted they still dont do any damage. How do I chanhe this?
This is just a fun character idea I came up with.
Name : Waltar Quintilius
Race: Imperial of course, although you could argue breton, I just think imperial fits the theme more. age at second to max for the wrinkles and put a goatee on
Spec: Magic or Stealth Either one works, but I lean slightlyyyy towards stealth since it fits the theme more.
Main attributes: Personality and Intelligence no question
Birthsign: The Apprentice, represents Walter all in nature.
Major skills:
Alchemy - get this to 100 asap even if it over levels you thats fine it makes the game funner
Illusion - this is more of a major skill just to fit the theme. realistically you are just using this at lower levels for the charm spells and to avoid overleveling. if you want you could abuse illusion to 100 and get invis and command but thats boring imo.
Restoration - again this major skill fits the theme whilst simultaneously avoiding overlevelling and restoration will always heal you to full since you have such a low heatlh.
Security - Just to get into the areas where you can't and fits the criminal theme
Sneak - another standard skill walter likes to avoid combat and you can pickpocket in posions.
speechcraft - essential skill. its mostly here for roleplaying. most of the time you are using this and not illusion just to avoid overleveling. If you want to make a more broken character you cant just leave this skill here and ignore it to avoid overleveling and just focus on illusion but thats boring imo.
mercantile - another essential skill represents Walters business negotiation skills and it avoids over leveling since you are using it alot but is very slow to level up
2 more challenges max difficulty and no fast travel
yeah so this build is extremely hard to do if you do the challenges and don't power level illusion. early game your mostly making potions and buying and selling and getting rich and not really doing any combat quests till you get a high alchemy level till you can poison your way out of things. no endurance at all at max difficulty and no combat skills and not abusing illusion can make for some interesting gameplay tho.
Hey there, literally as per the title - played HEAPS of oblivion back in the day and even modded it a fair bit, but now looking at getting back into the game and looking for your go-to's & must-have's after 15ish years of not playing.
I am especially looking for any stuff like Frostfall/Ashfall that adds in basic needs and potentially camping/survival-esque stuff, stuff like skyrim's Live Another Life/alternate start mods, mods that add in new weapons/armors/magic and potentially those into levelled lists so they are in the world. Would also love recommendations for a good backpack mod & maybe something that adds in extra bountyhunting/monsterhunting etc quests like the noticeboard mod from skyrim (not sure how well that would work without that radiant-quest set-up, but who knows?).
Thanks heaps to you guys in advance for any recommendations you have! Just want to liven the game up a bit for getting back into it after having not played it for so long!
