Hi guys haven't played this game in a couple years and I'm getting my ass kicked by an dapper old man everytime I enter Snowhawk, what is happening?

Looking for feedback as to what's needed to make something Elder Scrolls.

I'm working on an ES conversion for tabletop, and would like feedback from the community regarding what they feel makes TES.

I'll start by asking subs individually, and then follow up with a central post reshared to the subs to discuss how/to what extent the important elements should be implemented, so that discussion may occur together and with separate frames of reference.

So, what do you think is important for something to feel like Elder Scrolls?

Stuck in disease ridden Dagoth Ur

That's basically my issue. I came in prepared in all ways other than bringing cure disease potions and now with many a creature slay'd and with all pieces of the staff of chaos reassembled, I perish to disease trying to leave the God forsaken place.

Point I'm trying to make is I'm kind of stuck here and I'm far from willing to make a new save after all this pain I went through. Looking around on Google leads me to believe I am in a dire situation and the only way out would be through sleeping and killing monsters that have a chance to drop potions and hoping for a good ol' cure disease.

I'm wondering if that really is the only way or if there is anyway I could modify my save in some way to just straight up remove my disease or insert a cure disease into my inventory.

Arena vs Daggerfall: do you have a preference?

I know Daggerfall vastly expanded on Arena, especially so with the Unity version. But I think Arena has a certain charm to it that Daggerfall can't match. I think Daggerfall was too ambitious, leading to some frustrating aspects like insanely large dungeons with often bugged mechanics to the point that you can't complete them. Arena's brilliance lies in its simplicity. If you can get past the 90s jank, it's a very straightforward game and the dungeons are very well designed (and Passwall is such a cool spell).

Anyway, I'm just thinking out loud. What do you think Arena did better than its successor? I know objectively Daggerfall might be a better game, but there's something about Arena that leads me to replay it more than Daggerfall.

Armor

Can anyone confirm that the armor in the game absolutely does not work?

Remap was updated yesterday

Finally got back into the game yesterday after quite some time and when I went to check out the keybind remap mod I saw it'd been updated in 2024! I was a little surprised.

... and then I realized, no, wait, it was updated that morning.

Definitely taking it as a sign that I'm supposed to replay this game. What're the odds!?

Skeletons suck

How do i kill something that kills me in 3 hits and dies after 20 arrows to the head?
I've killed 2 by tricking their AI into getting stuck and shooting them like in Skyrim, but some of them just wont get stuck.

What kills skeletons?

Dungeons have no enemies?

Hey gang, I'm playing on the steam version and when I enter one of the randomly spawned dungeons around the settlements in the open world, there's a bunch of loot with no enemies spawned.

Is this normal? They spawn if I rest in there, but I can just leave and re-enter and make 100-200 gold in about a minute clearing the place out. Doesn't seem right.

Questions on choosing a race

So I’ll be playing a Knight. My previous post was on choosing a class. I decided on Knight as per community advice, valuing the paralysis immunity and ability to repair gear over the Ranger’s extra damage per level and the Warrior’s faster leveling. So now it’s down to race choice. I’ve narrowed it down to…

Breton Dark elf Nord Redguard

So my first question. How does the Breton’s half magic from magic attacks work? Is magic damage treated separately from elemental damage or does it encompass all elemental damage in game?

Second question. Is it necessary to bring a ranged weapon if I’m focusing on melee?

Third: how can you avoid or cure the level drain from Ghosts? Can priests in town cure that?

Which race is the best choice for a knight?

What class should I choose? I’m stuck between the following.

Rogue Barbarian Knight Ranger Warrior Spellsword

I’d like to play a guy in at least some form of metal armor who can use shields. I’m going to be focused on melee combat. I feel armor class is pretty important to survival so I’d like to aim for plate armor. However, I listed some that use chain mail instead because I felt like the trade off was worth it for their other abilities, such as Spellswords being able to cast magic.

I also see that magic plate armor allow you to cast certain spells. Is it better to have access to spells or is it just as good to be able to cast spells from armor?

In short, which of these classes is best to play?

Update: crossing out Rogue. The d8 hit die and 1% crit chance isn’t worth giving up plate armor to me.

Update 2: crossing out Barbarian and Spellsword. I want plate armor

Mouse refusing to work fullscreen

I've looked elsewhere for an answer to this, but besides a single person on steam forums asking the same question, I don't see an answer to this.

Any time I try and start up Arena fullscreen, my mouse refuses to work at all. There is no input from it.

Does anyone know what might be causing this issue at all? If so, is there a solution to it?

Mods to Modernise Arena

So I've played TES 3,4,&5 and plan on going through Daggerfall, after making more playable using stuff like DU and DREAM. I'm hoping there are ways to modernise Arena because I haven't been able to kill the first rat. The movements and controls are beyond me, but really want to get into the game since I love the series. HELP

What is the worst class in game?

A lot of people like to discuss what the powerful class is (so beating the game is easier), but what about the worst class to the make the game as challenging as possible.

On max graphics settings why is it slow?

If i turn the detail option up all the way the game is slow with a 3070. I normally have it turned down all the way which makes it run faster but also makes the game an actual horror game by not being able to see a goblin come running at you until the last second which can be fun

[Guide] Increase view distance without Cheat Engine

I posted this to various places, but figured I'd share here for visibility.

By editing your save file, you can set the view distance ("Detail" in the game menu) to well above the max setting of 19.

  1. Back up your game save.
  2. In the in-game menu, change the "Detail" slider to 0 and save the game in the top slot of the save menu.
  3. Close the game.
  4. Open SAVEENGN.00 with a hex-editor and change line 186 from:

7ef8 e8c6 6080 e566 050a 152a 57ad 58b0 (default) to cf90 36fa 6080 e566 050a 152a 57ad 58b0

Save and launch the game. When you load that save, the detail bar should be extremely long and wrap around your screen. Further saves created will preserve this new setting, so long as you don't change the detail setting.

The example setting here is one that is arbitrarily high enough that you cannot see any more details given the 320x200 resolution.

Enjoy!

Help.

I just finished labyrinthian and when I got the 2nd staff piece I got the good job you found it horn but no message attached my inventory says "staff peices(1)" still and nothing is happening after. I tried going back a few times and re doing things I even re did the tablet quest to trigger labyrinthian. I ran around and triggered random enemy encounters outside, I slept, traveled, repeated like 10 times. Nothing. Any help would be great because I was already getting kinda bored because I'm playing a mage and I don't think I've even lost 1hp since I left the starting dungeon so idk if I've got it in me to restart.

All I want for Christmas is Oghma Infinium for my Monk

Started first playthrough of Arena in my life
Choose Monk as a class, and decided stick to it even after all the hard stuff found about incarnation of this class in TES I.
Starting dungeon was okay-ish, finished it with 4th level. And right after that I've decided to hunt Oghma, found rumors in IC, completed first dungeon in search of map. That was hard - only one resting point at 3rd level, squishy character, and tonns of random encounters. Anyway I've dealt with that, found map, discovered all 4 levels of dungeon and optained 8-9 lvl. After that I've choose Stonekeep as next target (just to have some relief after random dungeons of Oghma) - that was way easier thanks to a lot of resting spots, and overall better feeling of the game.
After that I've switched back to Oghma quest in order to find it at the bottom of second dungeon and obtain level 11.I do have some decent equipment, like Adamantium LS and different torcs, bracelets that pumps my AC to -16,as well as few items that rises Personality stat to +30 - Im wearing that in towns during buy-sell runs. Planning to raise Willpower as next attribute (as well as max out End).
But have strong gut-feeling that I'll regret my class-choice based on some other's people topics about late game and enemies there.
Anyway, just wanted to share this info. I have real blast with earliest TES game - I was a big fan of Oblivion during my mid school when it came out, and way less enthusiasm on Skyrim on release and after it. Morrowind ended for me when I was not able to find Dwemer puzzle box following main quest - but now reopening it for myself with OpenMW greatness.
