Dwemer ruins of the Iliac Bay

Canonically, there should be Dwemer ruins in Hammerfell, or at least in the Dragontail Mountains. but Dwemer didn't exist yet back in 1996.

Nevertheless, I wonder how Dwemer ruins would look like in Daggerfall. Well they would "look" like any other dungeons, but I mean what type of blocks would have been used to generate them, what kind of layout would they generally have, etc....

Dwemer ruins are often complex dungeons in Morrowind and Skyrim so I wonder if in Daggerfall they would have been even more intricate and maze-like than the other dungeon types. It would have been crazy. I would have loved that.

Clothing in Daggerfall

I found that all wiki pages and other info on clothing in Daggerfall is quite limited, so I did a full overview of the clothing in the game. Is fashion in Daggerfall important to you?

Is there an autosave/respawn mod?

Basically a mod that autosaves the game after you enter/exit town/dungeon and makes it so the game loads the last autosave (or manual save if it's more recent) upon your death instead of doing a game over?

This is the only reason I can't really get into Daggerfall, the fact that you game over if you die. The difficulty, first dungeon, etc. that I could beat if I had enough tries.

Custom Class bug

So basically, I play Daggerfall and decide to make custom class. When I need to choose between answering 12 important questions or generate it automatically it just leads to the tamriel map select again (where you choose your race) and I have no idea how to solves it. This glitch only happened after I installed 90s DREAM mod, i remember changing something in the settings.ini files, maybe that was the reason? I also tried to reinstall the vanilla daggerfall files again but it dosent work.

Daggerfall Living in Tamriel

Hope this is allowed here, please delete if I'm breaking any rules!

I did my first ever playthrough of Daggerfall about a month ago and decided to make it a video. Did it in a video essay type style with some silly edits to entertain myself. Love chatting about old games just posting here to see if anyone would enjoy it, or if anyone just wants to talk about the game in general.

Part way through the video I go into the story, so some spoilers mid way into the vid.

Happy adventuring!

how do you know if a switch has been pulled.

Is the default position of a vertical switch up or down? Is the default position of a floor switch left or right? Is it possible to know if a switch has been pulled, just by looking at the position?

Is it normal to get only one letter during Mantella Revealed?

I haven't really done any of the guild quests prior to getting here, but it seems no matter how much rep I get with them, I only receive the first letter as soon as I get to the required amount with any one of them, while the rest just blueball me forever, even if I'm almost max rank with them.

I did read about the bug, where only three factions in the game even bother sending you letters and was doing quests just for them. But so far neither Mages' nor Thieves' Guilds have sent me anything (I have over 60 and 50 reputation with each respectively). I have also tried loading a save and doing them in a different order, since UESP wiki shown that each guild only sends you a specific letter, but it doesn't seem to be the case as I managed to get letter 1 from MG and contents are the exact same as the one I got from Gortwog.

I already did Elysana's Betrayal and am currently doing Lysandus' Revelation waiting for something to finally happen. Did I stumble upon a bug or that's just intended behaviour?

before I'm convinced to try daggerfall, I'm honestly wondering about how roleplayable the game is?

Most youtubers who seem to review the game, and most people who i've talked to that seem to LOVE Daggerfall don't really describe it as if it's an elder scrolls game. what I mean by that is that they don't seem to roleplay, or talk about the story or quests, and I'm just wondering about that. They seem to describe the game as if it's a fun crime simulator, where you get to destroy economies and steal things and kill people, and how fun that is. they seem to talk about how fun it is to get obscenely rich after grinding and buying off all the properties. then they talk about the main quest, or side quests as if it's completely ignorable, and is actually really boring and stupid and not worth playing through.

But this reminds me of those people who talk about Morrowind or Skyrim in the same way. they talk about it as if it's just *so* funny to kill the random civillians, and be a menace to society, and how they love to sell their stuff to get rich, before stealing their stuff back from the shopkeepers, and then they talk about looking up guides to get the best gear and then getting that obscenely op gear, and then using it to kill as many people as possible. but to me that's never really been the appeal of elder scrolls. I've always like the lore, and talking to the npc's, and doing quests. I don't play this game like a medieval GTA.

I don't think I like the same games for the same reasons as these people love it, and that's not an issue, but it makes it hard for me to gauge if I'd even like Daggerfall that much.

Lord K’avar Disappeared

After finding him in the Wayrest Castle dungeon he just vanished and I couldn’t kill him or bring him back to Sentinel for execution. I looked up what was supposed to happen during this quest but it seems mine bugged out. Is there a way to fix this or am I just doomed to fail this quest?

quest characters not appearing

this is the second time this happens within a 10 minute time span. i get a quest to deliver something to someone, as usual. i find a house and ask around for that person after being pointed in that direction. i ask the person in the house about the location of the quest character, i get a "...nevermind" which means that the quest character is in the house, right? but there's no one in the house besides this person. what do i do here.

[Narrative AAR] The saga of Wulfgarr Snobjorn, Volume 3

Previous entries: https://forums.dfworkshop.net/viewtopic.php?t=6655

25 Midyear, 3E405
I had an eventfull evening at the inn yesterday.
I was at The Dwarf And Huntsman - like I often do since last month - when I met a fellow adventurer passing by Mesajer. He was pretty low on cash and offered me to sell me a map to a local dungeon called Chirtir Hall. I gladly paid the mere 50 gold he asked for.
A few moments (and a few more beers) later as I was speaking with Derdar the innkeeper, he offered me a job. Two nights, an idiot named Lhughtt ran away without paying. He nearly owes 200 gold to Derdar and he hide in a place called Castle Flarcke. Derdar asked me to bring him Lhughtt alive.
Easy money. I kind of like Derdar anyway, might as well help him. His inn might be a dive bar. And I'm pretty sure he deals in shady business. But he's a funny guy. And his beer is strong, cheap, and even nearly good. An overall good guy in my book.

01 Sun's Height, 3E405
Lhughtt won't run away without paying from anywhere ever again. I even think he won't ever run, period, ever again. Derdar had a reputation to maintain, it costs Lhughtt his knees.
The little coward was hiding in the old Castle Flarcke with thug friends of his. It wasn't difficult to catch him. I just had to slaughter a bunch of weakly rogues. Lhughtt quickly surrendered. The blood and guts of his buddies spilled everywhere helped him make up his mind, I guess.

10 Sun's Height, 3E405
After a few days of rest, I hit the road again. My goal was to explore Chirtir Hall. It was a rather profitable endeavor. And quite exciting too.
This decrepit place was full of undeads and giant spiders. I honestly thought I was going to reach Sovngarde before being able to have my revenge on those damn orcs. But I prevailed. I smashed every skeletons with my axe. I pierced every spiders with my arrows.
The reward was worth the effort: I found so much treasures down there that I was able to buy a mithril axe from the best smith in Mesajer.

13 Sun's Height, 3E405
These Dragontail Mountains really needs a better ruler. The countryside is overrun by orcs. And brigands, thieves, and assassins run amok in the cities.
3 days ago, Rhevrn gave me a job. It was supposed to be an easy job. One guy called Nhujin had paid the guild for its protection. "A boring bodyguard duty" Rhevrn said. He couldn't be more wrong.
When I arrived at **Nhujin'**s, I was welcomed by a strong smell of iron. Blood. Then the door slammed shut behind my back and 4 assassins jumped me. They were tough opponents. It was a great fight.
Nhujin was dead. Slaughtered in his bed. Poor guy haven't even face death properly. I found a note on his corpse. He had somehow angered the Dark Brotherhood. But now those cutthroats had angered me and the Fighters Guild.
I had a lead or, rather, a name. Stoctsa. The one who had written the note. It took me 3 days but I've found her in a place called the Rusty Sword Tavern. Her henchmen weren't able to protect her from my wrath nor to save their own life.

22 Sun's Height, 3E405
I'm back in Mesajer after having spent the last two weeks on the road. Had a simple delivery job: a shipment of weapons to one of the easternmost villages of the Dragontail Mountains. Everyone in this region needs a lot of weapons, I guess. Makes sense given how wild it is.
It was a quite relaxing journey. I would have said peacefull if not for the daily attacks by orcs, giants, and wild beasts. The Dragontail Mountains are beautifull. But so must be a lot of other places too. I'm eager to resume my travels. But not before I'd have slain those pig-faced monsters in Velodred.
I'll be ready soon. But, for now, I'm ordering a new armor: an elven brigandine. Shor pardon me. Then I'll go to the nearest temple of Kyne to celebrate Fiery Night. It's in a town called Kalahanu a couple of days south-east of Mesajer.

If you like Daggerfall, you'll probably love original pencil and paper D&D from the 70's!

With the input from the Old school community that I recieved I have created this list of the top ten video games that emulate the old school pencil and paper adventure game experience! Daggerfall sits at #4 on the list, and other CRPGs also fit the bill. I hope you enjoy

Temple gave me a coven location but I can’t find it?

A Dibella temple un Menevia region gave me a mission. I’m affiliated with a different temple, so it was one of those “well, you are a heathen but…” missions. I did the mission and returned. The questgiver thanked me, then in a second dialogue box said “Here is the directions to so and so coven. It’s be great if you cleared them out.” I’m paraphrasing.

I can’t find the coven on the map. What’s more, I have looked at the Witch Covens article in the UESPwiki (https://en.m.uesp.net/wiki/Daggerfall:Witch_Covens) and can’t find any coven names there that sound similar to the coven name the questgiver mentioned. I don’t remember the exact name of the coven but none of the names I saw are even near.

What gives? Should the covens appear as a dungeon or temple or something in the map? (Searched for “coven” in Menevia already)

Edit: It looks like this is a big. I came across a discussion from 2019 where the same question was asked and not solved. Oh well.

Are my Armor Shops all bugged?

I'm level 16 and all the armorers in Daggerfall and Sentinel only ever have leather and chain and maybe a piece of iron armor or something. Pawn shops and Weapon Smiths are selling Ebony and Mithril weapons and I'm finding Daedric armor pieces as loot but the shops are selling garbage. Is this normal?

Should I install the Steam version or use the uesp link?

The daggerfall workshop page says steam but apparently it's missing patches. But also some patches cause bugs in some quests like the cyndasa the maid's werewolf quest and princess Elysana's cousin quest.

What should I do?

Great Unicorn's Horn HELP

So I went to Medora, got the quest from her to grab the Great Unicorn's Horn. I went through all of Shedungent, got the horn, and got out of the dungeon. I went back to Medora and the horn was gone. When I talked to her, it just opened the normal talking menu. It's not in my inventory, it's not in my wagon. I went back to Shedungent and it wasn't there either. It just vanished. The quest is also out of my log, so I think the game thinks I finished the quest. Anything I can do? Is there a way to console command it into my inventory? Or did I just not get the prompt from Medora, and it has nothing to do with the horn?

[Narrative AAR] The saga of Wulfgarr Snobjorn, Volume 2

Previous entries: https://forums.dfworkshop.net/viewtopic.php?t=6655

06 Midyear, 3E405
I've joined the Fighters Guild. The local guildmaster is a redguard called Rhevrn*. Seems like a good fellow. He's very straightforward. I like that.*
I had to do a job for him to join the guild. Simple stuff. An outlaw was dumb enough to hide inside the city. Everyone knows the Fighters Guild does bounty hunting. Finding him was easy. He said that he'd rather die than to go to jail. Well, I wanted to accomplish my mission.
Rhevrn warmly congratuled me and I'm now an official member of the Fighters Guild.

10 Midyear, 3E405
It's unbelievable how many people aren't able to lock their damn doors!
I've been killing giant rats, giant bats, bears and saber-tooth tigers for the last 4 days. All while they were rumaging through someone's cellar (and, in one case, through someone's closet. Only Shor knows what was in this closet.) One would think people living in a place such as the Dragontail Mountains would be wary of such things... Well, it's a steady source of income for the guild.
Anyway. I have to go to the bank today. I have an appointment and all. Rhevrn took care of it for me. Such a nice dude. I'm going to take a loan to buy a horse and a cart: the guild discovered the location of an ancient dungeon (supposedly filled with riches) called Darkeham Hall and gave its map to me. Problem is I won't be able to thoroughly plunder this dungeon without a cart. Hence the appointment.

16 Midyear, 3E405
So, now I owe 5500 gold coins to the bank. But I'm the proud owner of a trusty steed, a beautiful stalion named Red Hoof. I've also bought a cart, it's squeaks and creaks are pretty damn annoying. But Rhevrn said I won't mind when it will be filled with riches. Seems reasonable.
Anyway. I took a few days to rest and have my equipment repaired and I've hit the road.I'm now camping near Darkeham Hall*. This old castle is now mostly ruins. I can hear the wind whistle through the cracks in the walls. At dawn, I'll begin my dive in this dungeon.*

19 Midyear, 3E405
Rhevrn was right. I didn't mind the noise of the wagon on the way back. I didn't even mind when I had to stop to repair one of the wheel. It had broke because my cart was too loaded. It's a first class citizen problem if you ask me.
Darkeham Hall was truly filled with riches. Albeit not the kind I expected: I thought these ruins were going to be full of antiquities and monsters, but instead it served as a base of operations for a grop of bandits and rogue wizards. These thugs were so disorganized I was easily able to sneak my way in and kill them one by one.
By Shor! They must have been to used to assault defensless peasants. None of them was a tough fight.
Nonetheless, it was a profitable plunder: weapons, coins, old books and scrolls. I've nearly enough to repay my loan already. This cart is going to pay for itself really quickly. In fact, Rhevrn offered me a job and I think it'll be enough for me to earn the few hundred gold I still owe to the bank.
Furthermore, this job is sure to be far more interesting than to hunt some pests in someone's cellar: Rhevrn asked me to kill a "lycanthrope"! How cool is that? I'm eager to fight a real opponent. The beast is supposedly hiding in a place called The Quarry of Tarur*, a couple of days to the north.*
I have no time to spare: I have a werebeast to slay.

24 Midyear, 3E405
Stupid peasants! Ignorant cowards!
The "werebeast" was but a mere grizzly bear! I've traveled for 3 days to The Quarry of Tarur to slay a mundane animal. And 3 more days to go back to Mesajer*. 6 days of my life. To slay a bear. Shor damn it!*
At least this whole ordeal wasn't a total waste of my time: I encountered a few orcish raiders on the road. Their weapons earned me a few coins. Also, The Quarry of Tarur wass full of wild animals. I've collected their meat, their teeth and whatnot. It was a rather profitable endeavor. So much so that I can now say that I am debt free. I even have a few hundred golds in the bank.
Nonetheless... A bear. A stupid bear. Rhevrn had a good laugh when I returned to the guild. It's not the first time peasants mistake a beast for a werebeast, apparently. " The guild has been paid already, anyway" he said. Good for them.
I need a beer.
