going to be in JT from feb 8-15, and wondering if anyone has an extra acoustic guitar that they wouldn't mind lending / renting out for any of those days? would be soo nice to have a chill jam while we're there & wasn't sure where to find something like this, so just thought i'd throw it out in the void in case hehe :) thanks !
Heading to Palm Springs and Joshua tree in a few weeks for the first time. We booked a place in sunfair heights that looks awesome but I neglected to look up the drive to/from Joshua tree and the park beforehand. I now see the roads are unpaved, desolate, and would be tough to drive at night.
Should I be worried about driving out there in a rental car (well, suv)? Is cell phone service decent in those parts? Any advice appreciated. I’m a crappy driver and considering rebooking because I’m not sure I can handle those roads. But maybe I’m overthinking it, maybe y’all have better info. 🫡 thanks
Hi All! We will be in Joshua Tree doing a belated birthday celebration and wanted to see if we could hire a family hiking guide for a half day family hike Presidents weekend. I've hiked on my own before, but wanted to have someone with us who was 1) knowledgeable and 2) motivating. I have a person in my group who has a bit of anxiety and I really want a calm and fun vibe. Any recommendations?
Compiling a list of Trumper businesses to avoid. Not giving them my money.
For instance, Home Depot is MAGA to the max. Ace Hardware is continuing its DEI policies.
What about local businesses?
Friends and I are looking to plan a domestic trip this July, around Fourth of July. The first suggestion was AZ but I know it gets very unbearably hot there & I’m sensitive to heat. Someone suggested Joshua Tree but I can’t find much firsthand info on how bearable the temps are during peak summer
Hello! My partner and I are camping in Jumbo Rocks for one night early March. This will be our first time tent camping in Joshua Tree and are looking for tips, what to bring, hikes/trails to do, what your favorite meals are, etc. Any advice would be appreciated, thank you!!
A friend of mine is coming into town with his giant-wheeled jeep and he is hoping to do some off-roading. I know in general Johnson Valley is the spot for this in our area but I really don’t want to get anywhere near King of Hammers. Too crowded, too noisy, too maga.
Anywhere else away from Johnson Valley we could go?
Just in case people are wondering how JTree National Park is weathering this new administration, things are rough right now. Many employees of the park are paid off of grants coming from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL). Right now ALL that legally raised money cannot be paid out to staff. This isn't like the government isn't sending more funds, JTree has this money and is currently blocked from using it to pay staff. And there isn't really a redundancy in funding, if this BIL money is held up longer then folks who work hard and maintain this National Park we all love will lose their jobs.
Also remember, this is congressional approved funds! The President is legally not allowed to fuck with it. But this administration doesn't care about laws and standards.
If you readers do care about this park, please contact our Congressman Jay Obernolte and let him know his constituents, his local economy, and one of the gems of his district is at risk.
This is his office number 202-225-5861. The only way this stops is if just a handful of republican congresspeople can put pressure on the executive branch.
Looking at heading to Joshua Tree next week to backpack the California Hiking and Riding Trail, assuming no rain comes.
Anyone been out recently and can say what the nighttime temps are like?
Weather forecasts are showing lows from like high 30s to 50 one day, but I’m a little skeptical given that my home city in the Bay Area is supposedly gonna be colder, and the posts I’ve seen recently of all the snow (yes I know it’s gone now).
Is this just because of the storm front coming in? Anyways thought I’d ask and not just put my trust in the forecasts.
Hello! I'm visiting J Tree for the first time hoping to do a fair bit of climbing. We'll do some moderate trad leads once we're used to the rock, but I'm having trouble finding info on toprope routes with easy top access to have an easy warmup day. Any suggestions? Thanks!
I know Arizona and Utah have plans in place. Have a trip planned for April and really hoping.
I'm a big hiker who lives in the area, and I really love the "Don't Die Today, Hike Smart" logo associated with the park. Would love to buy it in patch form so I could have it stitched onto my hiking packs. Anyone know where I could find it these days? Is it still sold anywhere?
I have the day off work tomorrow and was hoping to see the snow in Joshua tree
Going this weekend and bummed to see the notification on the site. Was really hoping to see these
So this whole area is off limits or just the wooden trail?
Any other spots to view cholla cactus for sunset or sunrise?

Any tips for travelling to Joshua Tree MDW? we’ll be coming from LA and staying in an Airbnb in Yucca valley. Thanks all!
I know it's been more than a year since they closed, but I'm still mourning the loss. They were my lunch tradition for my yearly trip to J Tree.
I'm looking for comparable food? Sandwiches, smoothies, burritos, etc. Something that fills you up and tastes yummy. Ideally with veggies options.
Please don't say Crossroads.
Update: Yessss, Yucca Tree Eatery is exactly the vibe I was looking for. Thank you ❣️
Anyone have recommendations for stake types? This is my first time to CRHT. I know thin stakes pull right out of sand. People use rocks on top of stakes?
I planned a roadtrip/camping trip after a work trip I have in Vegas from Feb 7-12 completely forgetting about the Super Bowl. And now...the Eagles are in it and we're huge Eagles fan so we have to watch!
Originally the plans on the 9th were going to be to be driving from Death Valley to the Mojave area, casually catch the game wherever, and then do dispersed camping that night. Well...plans have got to change now!
We'll still be coming from DV but now are trying to decide where to watch the game since we actually want to WATCH it and be focused on it rather than casually seeing it. We're between stopping in Barstow (seems like a semi-big town for the area and might have a sports bar) or coming all the way to JT, which was our plan for the 10th.
We'd like a sports bar kind of vibe, or a bar/restaurant with good TVs and the sound on that doesn't mind us getting into the game. We don't drink but are fine being in bars. Food would be nice, but honestly, the TVs are the most important.
It looks like Fans in 29 Palms is hosting a SB party. Any feedback on that place? I'm open to anything from Yucca Valley to 29 Palms.
TLDR - Looking for a good place to watch the Super Bowl with good TVs and audio between Yucca Valley to 29 Palms.
GO BIRDS!!
Might drive from San Diego to see it!
Hi everyone! I am going to JT for the first time with a group of 12 people. Some people have been before, some haven’t. What are some of the best places to see? Good/ intermediate hiking trails? Best views? Any food, bar, and shopping recommendations are also greatly appreciated! :) Thank you!
Serious query here. I’m genuinely interested to know. Whether you’re part of a long line of generational locals, or if you came through and decided to stay, what brought you to JT, and why do you stay?
I’m interested in all answers, but please give it some thought first.
Flying from philadelphia to California. Our first destination is joshua tree. Is lax the closest airport?
