Me and my buddies are all looking for a place to play hockey. We’re all under 19 so are unable to go to the brennan park drop-in hockey nights, and, that being the only rink in town, where else are some spots where some teenagers can play a good ol’ game of hockey?
Good morning, I am planning to take a photo that involves an old growth tree, preferably big the better. I know one at the very top of diamondhead but for convenience it doesn’t really fit the bill… where are old growth areas in Squamish most likely found now, ideally closer to town the better but I’m not too fussy.
Have they had a change in ownership recently? I went there tonight get a river burger after having not been in a few months and I noticed things there have changed.
Firstly a river burger less than a year ago was $18.95 where as when I went to get one now it was priced at $22.95 which is a rather large price increase.
On top of that they have fully changed the way they make their fries and the iconic river burger. Both of which were a substantial downgrade both looking and tasting very different.
That being said I wouldn’t say it was a bad meal, just a big step down from what was once my favourite burger. This along with the very big price increase was very disappointing as I have been going there for a very long time and it has always been a favourite spot to eat out in town.
I am curious to see if anyone else has noticed the difference in quality and price there.
Am I going crazy??? or does practically everyone drive with their high beams on, or is it just the new LED light technology that produces really bright lights. I find my self constantly blinded as I drive the highway now when it’s dark.
I mean... Buy local all the time, if you can.
But especially around the holidays. Gifts are best (IMO) when they are meaningful. We have no shortage of people making things in this town - this is one of the most art-friendly (for makers) places I've ever lived in. We have numerous small businesses that would appreciate your support.
With the Canada Post strike and the USPS not taking any Canadian shipments as a result, we're in a position where buying from Amazon and/or shipping through UPS/FedEx/etc seems easier. Don't line their pockets - spend a little time looking at what you can find here. Small purchases matter, and experiences, too. There are so many opportunities locally, if you look for them.
There have already been a few markets offering options, but here's what I know are coming up:
The Squamish Downtown BIA is hosting the Holiday Market tomorrow (Sat, Nov 30) at the Squamish Plaza, after the parade (full disclosure - I am in this market. I'm posting this because I care deeply about supporting small businesses, but I can't pretend I'm not one of them).
Arts Whistler is hosting their holiday market tomorrow and Sunday (Nov 30, Dec 1) at the Westin, in Whistler, with several Squamish-based vendors.
Howe Sound Brewery is hosting their Winter Craft Market on Sunday (Dec 1).
The Squamish Waldorf School Christmas Fair is Dec 7, 11-3.
The Brackendale Art Gallery is hosting their Artisan Market on Dec 7.
The Squamish Dance Centre is hosting their Holiday Craft Fair, Dec 8, 12-4.
If you have any other opportunities or events for shopping locally, please comment with their details!
I just purchased a new truck and I'd like to install a kill switch on it. Any one done this? Do you have any recommendations for someone in town who'd be able to do it? I'm not very handy.
Does anyone have suggestions on bringing unpermitted work done a long time ago into compliance with the district? Ideally without tearing everything out/down.
I assume an engineer or architect might be needed? Has anyone had success doing this? Any recommendations on engineer/architect firms?
Any recommendations on how to go about this are also welcome/appreciated!
I suppose the title is clear enough. I'm not looking for 1:1 training, mostly a drop-in class I could attend. Google is not currently my friend as it keeps leading me to Kinesiologists which really isn't my intent.
Hoping for a once a week drop in and time of day doesn't matter as much.
Thanks,
Sadly my bf got food poisoning so we had to head home. We did see dead salmon though lolol
We are in town till tomorrow afternoon and we went to brakendale area today and saw about 7-10. Wondering if there are any other places to go see them?
Anyone renting in the new Sea and Sky rental buildings yet and have any feedback? Considering moving from downtown to take advantage of the BPI equity program.
Not trying to say good or bad, but I read the Chief’s article on the passing of Walmart’s rezoning vote. I could not exactly figure out what Pettingill was saying as it was reported. Photo grab from article. Can someone explain this rationale. I’m just a moron that can’t figure it out.
Anyone living in the Artisan building overlooking the school buses, do they bother you in the morning while they sit there idling? Any rough estimates for the cost of utilities on a 1 bed apartment? Do extra parking spots ever become available? Thanks so much!
Hey everyone, Squamish fire & rescue, SAR and police are accepting toy donations at Walmart. I know it’s been a hard year for everyone but there is a child in Squamish who would appreciate your help.
Does anyone know what type of garlic grows best in our climate? And also where to buy it? I spoke with someone a while back about how some types of garlic do really well here and others don’t, and I unfortunately can’t find my notes n which type. Thanks!
Hey there Squamish locals! My girlfriend and I are trying to see Jesse Roper tomorrow at The BAG (Breckendale Art Gallery), however, tickets are sold out online. I do bot really know the venue. What are the chances if I drive all the way from Vancouver I can still get tickets at the door?
Thank you!

We’re coming into the final stretch of fundraising for Movember. Many of us have been directly affected by cancer in some way. Any donation amount is greatly appreciated and goes a long way.
Also, the Squamish Fire Department is hosting a Movember event next week, November 28th at Howe Sound Brewing.
I'm just wondering if anyone knows who the main electrical contractor(s) are for the main build of the facility? Barring that, any rumours as to who is likely to be awarded the contract? I live in north van, long time IBEW member, and I am very determined to get onto that job
Are there any Kambo facilitators in Squamish?
I know the district has provided all these wonderful bike lanes for you. I respectfully provide you space when driving up to, beside, and past you.
But as it is getting dark earlier, throw me a freaking bone here.
If you are choosing to ride with no lights (poor decision) at least give me a fighting chance of missing you by not riding right on the white line (I know, it is easy for you to see it as you are not running any lights).
Maybe some brighter clothing? I know you are dark and mysterious, but I really don't want to pay an extra $16 at the car wash to was your blood off my fender.
Stay safe, ride on.
Question for anyone who owns a duplex in town, and more specifically in Brackendale. Who do you use for building insurance (not contents). Just going over our bills and ours has tripled in just 5 years! It’s my understanding that because we’re a duplex (with some kind of weird strata rule even through we’re not a strata) and in a flood plain we’re some kind of special insurance that not all companies cover (but not every insurance knows the difference) so I wanted to see if anyone in the area or surrounding uses so I can maybe get some quotes?
Hey everyone,
My team and I are currently in the early stages of organizing a small, weekend music festival for late summer 2025 (we're flexible on dates, so early summer or autumn could work as well). We're looking for the perfect venue ideally an 1-5 hours outside of vancouver that aligns with our vision and can help bring this event to life.
Our core team brings over 40+ years of combined experience in film, art, and live music events. We've had the privilege of receiving funding for past projects from reputable organizations like Creative BC, Canada Arts Council, and Factor. We're fully equipped to handle all aspects of event planning and execution, including logistics, security, legal protections, and waste management.
We are deeply committed to respecting the land, the communities that care for it, and the people who call it home. This is central to everything we do.
This festival will be relatively modest in scale compared to larger events, with a projected attendance of around 400-500 guests. Our target demographic is mature music lovers, primarily aged 20s to 40s, who appreciate spending time in nature. We plan to offer a cozy, intimate experience that prioritizes quality over quantity.
Two stages: A “main” stage and a smaller, more intimate stage for underground house and techno music.
On-site camping: Attendees will primarily stay in tents, with some cabins available for artists and select guests.
Deluxe Tickets: We'd love to offer premium tickets for those who would like a more luxurious experience, which would include staying in the cabins on-site. This would be a great option for those looking to enjoy a bit more comfort, while still being close to the action.
Duration: Friday & Saturday, with amplified audio running from day until 6am Sunday morning.
Atmosphere: The vibe will be one of connection and community, with performances throughout the day and into the early hours of the morning.
We're looking for a venue that can host our festival in late summer 2025. Ideally, the location would have beautiful natural surroundings, a good amount of space for camping and stages, and the ability to accommodate around 400-500 people.
If you know of any venues that might be a good fit for our event, or if you're a venue owner looking to partner with us, we would love to hear from you! Feel free to reach out with any questions or to discuss the details of the event further.
We’re excited to bring something unique to life, and we can’t wait to get started!
Thank you! 🙌
Considering applying for some available units in the Northyards 1/2 buildings on Government road. They are new buildings so not much for reviews on google. Anybody have any good or bad experiences with these buildings? They seem like a very solid place to live, in a decent location. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks!
As the title says. Obviously wont be in the way of any pumps. It will be off to the side more away from the pump and store itself in designated parking spots. No signs posted regarding any rules. Thanks!
Spoke to the owner. He approved my parking. FYI ima local with an oversized work vehicle that doesn’t fit in underground parking.
Thank you ❤️
