A women surfer safe space to promote, inspire and support women in the lineup. We love surfing, we rip, come join Girl Surfers!

We are obviously female friendly but still welcome all genders, ages, races, what have you.

About

For women in the lineup.

We love the salt, the sand, the sea and the sun. We love the ocean, the beauty and power of its waves. We love to have fun, so we put up with nose drain, bruises, fin cuts, sore muscles, hold downs, flat spells and traveling with boards, for the love and beauty of surfing. We believe we deserve to be in the line up as much as anyone.

You may be really stoked on a session, or inspired by a female surfer, and would like to share with some like minded people. You may have problems you want to discuss or have issues that /r/Surfing might not understand (big boob problems, getting cat-called whilst changing, whether to wear a swimsuit under a wetsuit, harassment just because you are a woman). Sometimes you might get tired of seeing comments or promotion about female surfers and how "hot" they are. You may even like to try surfing (go on).

/r/GirlSurfers is a safe space. We are obviously female friendly, but welcome all genders, age, race, what have you. Feel free to post and use this space however you see fit. If you'd like to be a mod or help with CSS stuff, feel free to send a message to the mods.

Rules

  1. Please do not submit posts or comments with creepy/sexualizing language, even if you think we/they/girls are "hot".
  2. Please be civil and respectful--No racism, sexism, misogyny, bigotry, and all that other hateful stuff. That kind of negativity does not belong here.
  3. Feel free to post pictures, videos, self.posts, or whatever about surfing (no blatant advertising please).
  4. If you see any inappropriate content or comments, please use the report function.
  5. If you are ever harassed through PMs because of the content you post on this subreddit, report to the admins and also send a PM to the mods with the information.

Surf in Mexico

Hey ladies, Scottish surfer here who accidentally moved to Minnesota and is now desperate for some surf. Thinking about heading to Mexico - a Cali couple I met in Nicaragua told me Sayulita was a nice spot. Anyone been? Is it touristy with loadsa foamies flying about?

Also, are there any longboard retreats happening on the west coast USA that would be fun?

Chunky/broad shoulders wetsuit suggestions?

Hi all- I’m 5’3 and 170lbs right now. I’m usually 30lbs less but I’m on meds that are tough to not gain weight/lose weight. Any good suggestions? Thanks in advance?

Question: do you where bikini bottoms under a capsule wetsuit?

Hi ladies, I’m new to surfing and just invested in a capsule wetsuit (long sleeve but no “pants”) so I’m wondering whether or not I should still wear bikini bottoms, do hygiene reasons maybe? But I’m not sure if it would even be comfy as the suite already has a bikini cut. Maybe it would be fine if I wore really cheeky bikini bottoms underneath?

October Surf/Yoga retreats?

Hi,

My wife and her friend want a relaxing surf/yoga trip, preferably an all-inclusive, women's or non-youth hostel party type resort. This will be mid-October, and looking for a 4-6 hour flight from San Francisco, most likely Central America. Any recommendations for weather, waves, and resorts?

Short busty girl problems...

Hey, fam! Would anyone be able to recommend me a wetsuit? I'm 4'-11" with 35" chest but otherwise "average" athletic girl proportions. The closest fit I've been able to find is a Hyperflex Men's XS, which for the most part has good dimensions but the boy specific areas (like the belly and crotch) are super awkward. Everyone I know keeps recommending Xcel, but even their 8s is slightly too long and too tight in the chest and shoulders. O'Neill could work if I could get UK sizes in the US, but alas (the 8s in their rigid Epic suit is the perfect length but too tight, and the 10s is an okay width but bunches up in several places). I feel like their stretchy Hyperfreak in 8s could be just right, but the US version doesn't come in short sizes and they don't ship to here from the UK. Help! Am I doomed to wear weird fitting XS boy suits? Thanks, all!

I'm looking for a budget friendly international summer camp for a 17 yr old, based around nature or stuff like that. If that even exists.

Cheap women's surf swimsuits/rashguards

Hello Ladies,

My partner and I live on Vancouver Island, Canada. We do plenty of cold water surfing up here, but rarely get the chance to surf sans wetsuit. My partner has booked a trip to mexico to surf Sayulita for a couple weeks, and I'm trying to help her find some affordable surf clothing.

Can anyone recommend an affordable brand of bikini style or one piece swimsuit/rashguards? She would like to buy a few different options for the trip, and we're finding that cost will add up very quickly with the typical surf brands (billabong, volcom, etc). She's prepared to spend the money if necessary, but wondering if anyone has more affordable recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

winter wetsuits for thicker girls?

Hey yall! First time posting here on this subreddit. I’m looking for guidance. I live on the east coast (USA) and I’ve been learning to surf in the summers / fall for 2 years now. My issue is I’m not progressing because I can’t surf in the winters, so I’ve been shopping for a winter wetsuit that can help extend my surfing season.

Problem is I just can’t find a 5/4 or even a 4/3 that fits my hips. I’m 5’5” and 165 lbs, mostly curvy in the thighs hips butt. So all the heavy duty wetsuits I’ve found all have the little chest zip, and no matter how hard i try, these hips are not fitting through that tiny hole. I pulled several muscles and was totally winded trying to fit into some at the surf shop the other day. Embarrassing. Has anyone had this struggle before and found something that works for them? Do 5/4 or 4/3 exist with a back zip? Ive tried womens up to size 14 which was the largest ive found in stores. And ive tried some mens ones too. No luck.

Plz forgive me if any of my lingo is wrong lol im just tryina surf. Appreciate any advice! Thanks in advance
