Shorter jackets for shorter ladies?

Anyone know of any brands that have snowboarding jackets that aren’t standard in length (ie. long on the short-torso’d person)? I’m barely 5’ and my Roxy and Billabong jackets are easily 4” too long, such that I look like I barely have any legs when riding. The length is such overkill for me. NorthFace also runs long on me, and Obermayer doesn’t seem to make my size (0).

Also, has anyone tried Oyuki?

Thank you!

Edit: just wandered into a local shop found a jacket from the brand Picture and the length is great!! Never heard of the brand but I already recommend them for anyone having the same issue as me.

Arbor Swoon vs Burton Talent Scout vs Salomon Bellevue

After 15 years it’s finally time to upgrade my board! I’m riding a 155 now and think the size is right. I mainly ride groomers with a tiny amount of powder on solid blues and some easier blacks.

I’ve been suggested these three, but my giant feet and height limit the choices. Anyone have any experiences/guidance on the following boards? Trying to take advantage of the end of season sales

Thanks!

Let's Skip Summer Sticker

I created this sticker due to such a crappy Michigan winter. I still got out there and I improved my skills, but it is hard to accept that it's spring and soon summer... which, don't get me wrong, I love Michigan summers. I just wanted more winter, more snow! If anyone is big on social media and would like to trade a sticker for a tag, I'd love that. I don't have a sticker business, but I love creating for myself when I am not working on boring-ish graphic design jobs, lol. https://www.aflaherty.com/designgoods/lets-skip-summer-sticker-w65eb

Help picking board size

I started snowboarding this year and I currently ride a 146 rocker K2 board. I've been wanting to get a board with more camber because i mainly ride park. I like the look of the public x jibgurl board but it only comes in two sizes, 143 and 147. I'm 5'6, 120lbs, and wear a size 8 womens boot. I've been told I should ride the 147 as my reccomended length is 146, but I've heard shorter boards are better for park. Any tips?

Help! I’m confused D:

I am trying to figure it my board size and also a good beginner board. But the size is what I’m most unsure of. I’m a woman, 5’8” and 140lbs but petite and lean all around. Size 10 feet. Trying rental Burtons at mountain, 150 was too heavy but 144 was nice. I spoke with someone on Curated and they are recommending a CAPiTA Space Metal Fantasy in 149 as my first board. Is that too big for someone like me?

Looking for board recommendations

Hey ladies! This is my second season on snowboarding and I’m starting to really like pow days and trees in pow! Based in SoCal, I had my first pow day (wet pow) in big bear and going between the trees on that day was so much fun! However, last week in mammoth gave me a lot of trouble with knee deep snow so im starting thinking about a pow board that would help me on deep pow day maneuver between the trees in medium speed (11mph-15mph average), ideally able to handle bumpy terrain after heavy snow as well. I’m 5ft1, 113lbs, currently riding a Salomon Wonder 140. I’m looking at Jones Mind Expander, Jones Stratos and Ride Warpig or Psychocandy but I’m wondering if there are other options or what would you guys pick among the mentioned board?

board recommendations!

hi all I just had the most amazing weekend at Mammoth in CA and would like to pull the trigger on a board (though probably for next season)

I’m definitely a beginner but have been skateboarding since I was a teen and watched a million youtube tutorials and picked it up pretty quick.

day one was a struggle (started out on hard blues moguls and ate a lot of snow) but day two was crushing off trail greens and easy blues. i figured out my edge changes and can ride relatively comfortably at speed without falling, and really shined at park thanks to my skateboarding skills, hitting jumps boxes and barrels pretty well. would like a board that is flexy enough for park but i can try out on blues and potentially blacks as i progress.

i rented a salomon abstract 147 from a local shop and liked it quite a bit--it performed well on icy groomers at speed but was a little tough to maneuver in trees and felt a bit stiff for my liking at park. i’m 5’3”, weigh 130lb. online calculators say 139 to 145mm, and 246-260+ width. the 147 worked out ok but i'm thinking 144 might be better.

TL;DR: looking for an all-rounder that’s good for both park and ideally some challenging blue groomers and trees as i get more comfortable. going off trail was exhilarating tho it took all of my concentration not to eat tree.

any recs?

tiny feet but regular weight boots options?

Hi,

I'm an intermediate to advanced rider, 5"2' ft, 115 lbs, currently riding size 4 women's boots. I have a hard time to find snowboard boots that works on me.

Most of the brand dont have any size 4 boots. Plus my feet are narrow, even for size 4, I have to use high profile insoles, and double the insole on one side, yes, my right foot is smaller than left foot by a good amount.

As far as I know, salomon and burton have size 4 adult boots. I own 4 of them:

  1. salomon ivy sj BOA: my favorite so far.
    1. pros: a. Low volumn. narrow but slightly higher in the bridge, so i can double the insole on right side without squeeze my whole right foot. b. has ankle harness that I dont have ankle lift
    2. cons: a. too soft, hard to use my leg to work on toe side, heel side is fine with stiff highback bindings, front shin where touched the top part of the boots got red after riding, because of pushing too hard. b. I have to tighten it all the way for small feet, so the whole boots got squeezed and dont hold the shape well, snow/water got in easily.
  2. burton limelight: used for 1 season
    1. pros: a little stiffer, hold the shape better, so not that much snow/water
    2. cons: wider and lower in the bridge, I cannot fit two insoles in the right side. I went with one higher insole on my smaller foot side. At the end of the season, I got a bone spur on the side of my little toe, so painful after riding everytime.
  3. salomon kiana dual boa: used for several days
    1. pros: stiffer than salomon ivy sj
    2. cons: doesnt have harness, very bad ankle lift. Tried to fix with J-bar, dosent help much
  4. burton supreme from 09 season? : havent use them so far
    1. got them from ebay, they were out maybe in 09/10 season, burton doesnt have supreme in size 4 now
    2. pros: stiff enough, have J-bar
    3. cons: only tried it once at home, my foot got numb after trying, so maybe too small? Also they have similar bridge shape as other burton boots, wide and flat.
  5. I used to ride size 5 burton mint, burton felix when I first started snowboarding. They're definitly too large for me now

Do you guys have any idea which brand has size 4 boots for adult? or any idea how to fix my boots. I tried boots fitting, it's not so common for boarders, also for larger boots, the only thing they can do is putting more insole and some paddings on the liners. I know there's a thing for ski boots that you can fully customize your boots, but i have no luck in snowboard boots so far. By the way, I quit ski because i couldnt find the right ski boots, i have a pair of size 21.5 ski boots, doubled insoles on one side, a lot of extra paddings outside liners, still not feel so good in those. I dont want to downgrade to any kids snowboard boots, they could be too soft for my weight.

Any suggestions is appreciated!

Women boot in size 4, do they exist?

Update: I ordered a few pair of boots to try. I used my mondo sizing which sometimes puts me in a size 5. Note that I also have just wider than average feet and athletic calves. Left foot is also a bit longer. I initially tried these with fully padded socks and later twitched to semi padded as fully padded was too hard to even get my feet inside as they are too meaty.

Burton Limelight size 4 - I barely was able to put these on with fully padded socks. After I switched my socks to semi padded, the fit was tight and snug. Toes were on the borderline curling and my left pinky toe was being squished inside the toe box. Velcro for calves didn't fit but overall I like the boot. Heel hold is good, it feels responsive when I put it on with my board at home. Didn't cut of circulation and feels like it would break in well. It's too bad that the wide version in size 4 is sold out, I think that would have made a huge difference in experience. The employee at sports basement told me Burton is one of the companies that actually design boots for female rather than just making a boot smaller so the heel on a women's boot is slimmer.

Salomon Ivy Boa SJ Boa size 4 - this is a slim boot, toes was curling and it just felt like my feet were suffocating. Heel fit is good but my feet were dying in 10mins. I don't know if I can even make it through the days to even try breaking this in. I think if you have skinny feet, this is for you. Unfortunately I got meaty duck feet.

Vans Encore Pro size 5 - I went with my suggested mondo size and it was a 5. Love how wide the toe box is. I got short but wide toes and this definitely accommodate. Tip of big toe is touching the front of the boot, felt comfortable right out of the box, snug but not too tight. Heel hold is great. Don't know if they will pack out fast but since the fit is good I'm thinking maybe if they do, I can compensate with some super feet. Velcro on the liner for calves did not fit.

Thirty-Two Lashed Double Boa size 5 - decided to give it a try again due to the wider toe box. Tip of big toe was touching. Boot was snug and felt good, heel hold was okay. But the one awesome thing is that the liner in these come with foam Os that you can insert for better ankle hold. Also the Velcro with calves is long. They have these extended tabs and finally I can actually use that feature!!! I liked it but worry about them packing out over time for a size 5 since my Shifty were a 5 and I can tell those are definitely too big now.

Thirty-Two STW Double Boa size 5 - these are definitely no for me, they fit fine but I can tell it will definitely loosen up, my heel was not locked down despite the double boa. It was already sliding around inside even though the toes part fit.

Ranking:

  1. Vans Encore Pro
  2. Thirty-Two Lashed Double Boa
  3. Burton Limelight
  4. Salomon Ivy Boa SJ Boa (just because I don't have slim feet)
  5. Thirty-Two STW Double Boa

At this point I'm leaning towards the vans since they do run small and that works for me but the lashed double boa is also a contender.

Previous: Hey all! This is my first full season snowboarding. I actually just learned how to ride this season and can't wait to be back out again. Since I wasn't sure if I was going to fully commit, I purchased some Thirty-two shifty on sale last year in size 5. A few days ago I went to my local ski shop and got my foot measured and found out I'm actually a women 4.5 with a width of C+.

Does anyone know if any brands make size 4 in women's boot? The ski shop person said I should try looking online and told me not to settle for youth boot. I am having trouble finding anything. Please help.

Snowboard help

Hi guys I was wondering if you can help me out with some recommendations or advice with buying a snowboard. I’m currently riding a 146 Salomon lotus I’m 5’5 140lbs and I wanna get something that’s a little more playful. I’ve been practicing and really getting comfortable with the sport. For next season I will eventually want to learn switch and some ground tricks and be able to carve. What did you guys think of the jones twin sister, Capita BOAF or neversummer Infinity? Or do you have one you can recommend?

Demoed a bunch of boards: Feelgood, BOAF, Dreamweaver, Glider, No Drama, Huckknife, Assassin

Hey ladies, I demoed a bunch of boards in Colorado and Utah, and figured I’d share my thoughts. Sorry for the looong post.

TL;DR What I liked in real life didn’t match what I expected from reading specs! Decided against a single all mountain board, and instead I bought the Salomon No Drama 152 which was super fun. Also picked up a Yes Hel Yes 152 for the east coast, unfortunately without being able to demo.

About me and my riding: 43F, 5’6 and 170, snowboarding for 25 years but inconsistently; 10-12 days is a good season. I’d say I’m Advanced but not expert. I learned on the Ice Coast and ride both east coast and out west. I like to (safely) bomb down groomers and steeps, but lately I’m seeking out moguls and obstacles and venturing into trees to improve my technicals. I don’t look for air or do parks anymore. Sweet spot is blues and single blacks; I’ll venture into double blacks with friends but probably scrape my way down.

I’ve been riding the 2009/2010 camber Burton Feelgood 149 since it came out, now with Lexa bindings. I fucking love that board. It carves and grips ice like a dream and will flatten anything in its path, but it isn’t doing me many favors on moguls and trees. It’s point-and-go with or without you, so I’m not confident I can turn quickly enough in a tight or steep spot.

I demoed everything in mixed conditions, mostly choppy snow over a packed base, and one day fresh powder.

Burton Feelgood 152. The Heartbreaker. After so many years on my beloved Feelgood, I don’t want this board. It felt insanely stiff, both lengthwise and torsional. I’m looking for something softer these days.

Capita Birds of a Feather 152. The Nice Guy. I really wanted to like this board. It did everything right — it was playful, turned pretty well, had good speed, kept me upright once with my nose practically to the ground in a skid, was nice and stable in some messy, bumpy snow. But. It didn’t excel at any one thing, and for whatever reason, we just weren’t having it with each other. The board and the bindings and my boots were fighting each other, and it was exhausting. I moved on from what might have been a good thing.

Jones Dreamweaver 149. The Blind Date. This had the bounce and pop I was looking for, but it chattered too much coming down groomers (I probably also needed a 152.) There was something in the camber/rocker profile that kept tripping me up. I caught an edge and punched myself in the face for the first time in 15 years lol.

Lib Tech Glider 151. The Player. Carved great and FAST but with chatter. Or more likely I just don’t understand rocker boards. I felt out of control on moguls and afraid to turn.

Salomon No Drama 149 and 152. The One. Loved it. I had so much fun on this board. It carved well, handled bumps and held a pretty good edge. Best of all, it “waited” for me as I turned in tight spots, instead of slingshotting me like my Feelgood does lol. In the first hour on this board, I went into trees and had the confidence to turn my way down a double-black mogul trail. The cons: Not as fast as I liked. I almost felt held back from building speed on groomers. But it may have been a wax issue (my second time out the shop gave it a fresh coat for me, and it felt better), and regardless a tradeoff I’ll make for how fun it was. Edge control was fine for Colorado “ice,” but I don’t think I’d trust it as an east coast board. Got the 152 for stability.

Salomon Huckknife 149. The Bad Boy. Men’s board, but the shop gave it to me as a compromise between the No Drama and the speed I wanted. It exactly was. I liked this board a lot and would be happy with it as a harder charging board. It was fast, carved great, really held an edge, turned pretty easily but not as fun and playful as the No Drama.

Salomon Assassin 150. The Snoozer. Stiffer, carved great, decent turns, but no personality. Just another snowboard doing snowboard things. (I demoed this by accident, I meant to ask for the unisex Abstract and mixed up the names.)

Anyways, this is totally a personal experience, but sharing in case it’s helpful! Pretty sure no board is perfect, sometimes it’s just right time and right place.

Thoughts on K2 Spellcaster 2024?

I just bought the K2 Spellcaster 2024 as my first board. I would say I’m advanced beginner/intermediate rider. Did I make the right choice for my first board? What are your thoughts on the board if you’ve tried it out? I live on the east coast so it’s important to me that I have a board that performs well on ice.

Any direct comparisons of Burton Storyboard vs Feelgood?

Just a more specific question from my prior post about picking a new board. I just demo’d the Storyboard and I did like it, although from more reading about it wondering if the Feelgood could be a better choice. Would love to hear about anyone’s experience that has tried both so I can understand what the differences really are…. TIA!!!

Powder House in Bend

We are in Bend for the week, 5 days riding on Mt. Bachelor and I just want to shout out to Grant at Powder House for 'fixing' my snowboard boots. After 3 seasons, my 32 snowboard boots were packed out and were no longer snug on my feet even though the length is perfect, just an annoying heel lift. So after day #2 which was an epic powder day, I stopped by Powder House at the end of the day and Grant added some additional cushion to the ankle area on my liners to prevent heel lift and boy, did my riding improve today! Boot fitters make a huge difference! Thank you Grant!

Seeking- Lady Shred Community

I am a mid thirties female, guided by the mountains and adventure. No dog, no house, no relationship.

I'd like to move somewhere with a strong community of women adventurers. And if I can be even more specific, single women adventurers. No hate on my married or coupled friends... But it's just not the same once you're partnered, and no, I don't want to third wheel with you and your husband. I'm in the Midwest right now. It feels like everyone is coupled and...boring?

Where do all the single thirty-something ski bum ladies with mid careers go to live?? Should we just pick a tiny town and all move there?

I am sorry if I offend anyone with this post or question. I am just so over my current situation.

Catskied with Baldface Valhalla for the very first time this past weekend. We got lucky with a storm that rolled through. Definitely a technical terrain with tight trees. Highly recommended if anyone’s looking to venture to interior BC.

Help me pick a new board…

Please help me pick a new board (46F, Intermediate)

I’m sorry if these posts are annoying, but would really appreciate advice. I am getting back into snowboarding now that my kids (3 in elementary school) are learning too - had to take a bit of a break there. So my board/setup as a result is quite old - well over a decade. I have a K2 Luna. It has served me well, but it’s time to upgrade. I’m perusing end of season sales and could grab something now if I knew what I wanted…

Some facts:

  • I honestly just like cruising, I could happily spend all my time floating down blues.
  • No terrain parks
  • I am in PA - so east coast ice nonsense. I plan to go up to VT/ME and/or out west once a year or so.
  • I just demo’d a Burton Storyboard in VT. I don’t have much to compare it to, although I quite enjoyed it. Just wasn’t convinced I should get that just because I happened to demo it (I didn’t have a ton of options), although again I did really like it. I felt like it made turning so easy and I never worried about catching an edge.
  • no budget - though would happily grab something on sale if that worked out
  • directional is good, I can’t switch, goofy only

What should I consider? I’m intrigued by the Hel Yes from some initial research.

Board recommendations

I’ve been riding my Winterstick Wasatch board since 2002. I started riding in 1998 and I’ve only ever ridden in the northeast. Up until about 2011, I rode mostly bigger mountains in the northeast…Killington, Sunday River, Mt Snow, Sugarloaf, Sugarbush, etc. I could ride any trail. Since 2011 I haven’t gotten to ride much (due to having kids, and lack of money) and have mostly been to Wachusett and Bradford.

I don’t do park riding anymore and honestly I just love to carve and go “fast” (compared to those I ride with). I probably average about 30mph on slopes app and probably hit about 50mph tops…so I’m not winning any races but I do enjoy pushing myself.

I’m looking for a board that will let me ride the big northeast mountains (and a few glades here and there), be awesome at holding an edge on the groomers and all the various northeast conditions. I want to be able to ride fast, but also be able to ride moderately with my kids at the smaller mountains too. Gear has changed so much since I bought my Winterstick (which is a true camber, pretty stiff intermediate board).

Any recommendations for a board? Also will need boots and bindings too if you’ve got thoughts on those. (I’m 5’5”, 215lbs and wear a 9.5 shoe)

Fave Snow Gear

Alright with all these sales going on I’m itching to get some new stuff. Personally I’m looking for a hot pink Barbie snow outfit (one piece or two piece or bibs I don’t really have a preference) or something super fun and retro and neon but I want to know what y’all are obsessed with! Please help fuel my shopping itch.

Yes Hel Yes 2022/23 vs. 2023/24

Does anyone know if there are any major differences between last season’s Yes Hel Yes board and this season’s?

I’ve had no luck finding anyone who demos the board, but I just spotted a 2022/2023 in a local store for $330. Thinking about just taking a chance and picking it up. It’s a 152”, I usually ride a 149” but at 5’6 and 170 maybe I should be on a longer board anyway.

(And… are we pretty much in end of season sales now, or should I give it a month? Inventory’s looking low online.)
