Kite luggage Kenya airways

Hi all,

Anyone have experience with bringing your gear with Kenya airways to Nairobi? And also for the inland flight from Nairobi to the beach?

What are the costs? Any hidden costs? And potentially even tips and tricks?

Thanks in advance!

Gong galaxy

Has anyone has tried Gong Galaxy kites?

Since Airton joined they release new line of kites that seem promising, but I don't have anywhere to try them out.

Which bar to buy? Harlem Lead, Naish Sync, Naish Torque 2, or others?

I'm looking to buy my first bar, but I'm torn between these choices that my instructor is offering. During my lessons, I was using a Naish Torque 2. Are there any other options I should consider? I have a Naish Pivot 12m.

Looking for warm kite surfing spots in early December not long of a flight from London—any recommendations?

I'm planning a week-long kite surfing trip in early December and am hoping to find a destination that's warm, has reliable wind, and isn’t too far from London (<6 hours flight). So far, I’ve heard great things about Sal in Cape Verde for consistent wind, but I’d love to get some insights from people who’ve been to other spots around that time of year.

I'm especially curious about:

  • El Gouna (Egypt)
  • Ras Soma (Egypt)
  • Canary Islands
  • Dakhla (Morocco)

Any advice on conditions, costs, or overall experience at these places in December would be super helpful. Thanks in advance!

Brazil Itinerary

Ok so I travel last minute and am very flexible.

Solos trip. Day 1. Arrive Fortaleza. Transfer Cumbuco Day 2-6 Cumbuco. Leave Cumbuco for Jeri 6-9 Jeri 9-14 Prea 14-21 Icarai 21 transfer to Fortaleza. Leave.

Thoughts on spot selection and sequencing? I figure I just get the big drive out of the way and then work back down south. I kinda wanna be in Jeri on a weekend so I may mix the transfers up some.

Thanks all. Cheers.

Any suggestions for spots to ride and rent gear in Taiwan?

Hi! Im in Taiwan for the next two weeks. The wind is blowing here and looking to score a session somewhere, somehow. Any tips? So far, the rental shops on Google Maps are either closed or not reacting to any messages...

What are your thoughts on the design of the new Reedin kite?

Curious to your opinions on the design of the new Reedin hypermodel.

Is it brainchild pushing for these wild designs just because they want to prove their new printing technology? (Same goes for the Harlem force and thrive)

I’m not a big fan myself. It’s all over the place and looks very outdated. To me the designs are so bad it really makes me wonder how f*in good the kite has to be to convince me to buy it anyways.

my experience with cabrinha moto 2022 vs blade trigger 2014!!

Hi everyone,

I started kiting around 2014 and I only bought 2 kites so far

First kite was a 10m blade trigger 2014, I had a friend that represented the brand and I trusted him. It lasted me until 2022 without issue (i had to replace the main lines twice, the first time they snapped while i was riding :x

I really liked the kite, and I never rode anything else, I'm ~65kg and I would ride it from 10 knots to 20 or more. the winds where i rode are rarely stronger than that, and only a few times did I have to stay in the sand because the wind was too strong.

Last year the bladders started leaking and after I got tired of fixing them I decided to buy my second kite, and I picked the 2022 cabrinha moto because it had a big discount. I would go for a 10m, but it wasn't available, so I picked the 9m thinking it would be much of a difference, and maybe later I could buy a 12 or a 13 and get a 2 kite quiver :p

now, I didnt ride it that much, and I was super used to my old kite, and this one is a 9 vs a 10, but it feels so much.. worse.. when just riding around and going upwind

even when the wind is stronger, and i can ride fast and jump etc, the lower end, like when switching directions, or re-starting after a fall, always seems like the kite doesnt have the same "snap power" just by pulling the bar, on the other hand when it picks up i feel a bit overpowered, its like the wind range just got a lot smaller

this kite has 8 years of evolution on my previous one, and it is from a more well known brand (blade is even closed afaik) so i was expecting it woud be better in every way. I even thought i would be able to ride on similar low winds despite it being a 9 vs a 10m, but now every time i ride i just wish i had the feeling of the old kite back

is this a design thing? the moto was adverted as an all around kite, so including jumps and waves, while the trigger i think was adverted as a "free ride", so more upwind and so on.

ps: they are both 3 strut kites, I picked the moto also because of that, since i really liked the old one

Southeast Asia / Pacific Islands - Diving and Kiteboarding

Hey good people,

I’m looking at doing 18 days somewhere in Southeast Asia / Pacific Islands in February. I need a place that’s got good diving for me and the missus, but would also like a kiteboarding school I can learn at with favourable conditions for a beginner? Any ideas?

Leash for kitesurfing pranch?

What do you think about using a leash on a kitesurf board? I live in Ceará-Brazil and I've never seen anyone using it, although I've seen people selling it. I'm just starting kitesurfing and because I fall quite often, it ends up being very uncomfortable all the time having to retrieve the board from the sea. Do you find it useful? Do you think it's safe?

An incredible strategy for keeping warm in cold climates while kitesurfing

Hello, I’d like to share a strategy for those northern kitesurfers who deal with cold temperatures.

A lot of people might frown upon this but here goes. An hour before you begin your session drink an enormous amount of water. Before you begin kiting and you’ve got your wetsuit on, just pee. Your wetsuit will fill with hot urine and keep you warm for the beginning of the session. You will be able to go for longer.

Not for the faint of heart. Personally I have a separate wetsuit for this so the stink of uric acid does not bother my wife.

Edit: you can also pee beforehand and then pour it in from the top of the wetsuit to more thoroughly warm up the entire suit. I will stick it in the microwave if it’s not hot enough and it also helps a lot

Dakhla or Phan Rang in Dec for beginner?

I have a looong holiday in Dec-Jan and want to systematically pick up kiting! I have had about 4 lessons in Cartagena where I reached the stage of learning waterstart but haven't mastered it.

Looking for suggestions on locations:

  1. Wind consistency (Phan Rang might be better?)
  2. School quality and safety (I'm a 28F and will be traveling alone (I have quite a bit travel experience in developing countries), want to make sure to have good instructors that can clearly explain the sport, and an environment to find a community/meet people to hang out with)
  3. No-wind activities (I surf, so if there are nearby surf spots I can kill some time when there's no wind)

I will be flying out from New York and end my trip in Asia so I pre-screened for these two locations. But open to suggestions!!

Also - how many days should I plan for learning, if I want to reach Level 5? Is it too ambitious?

  1. Kite Level 1: Safety Basics, Getting Ready, Start Kite Flying, Take Off
  2. Kite Level 2: Kite Flying, Kite Relaunch, Bodydrag
  3. Kite Level 3: Waterstart, Going Downwind for a short distance
  4. Kite Level 4: Going Downwind, Changing direction, Keep Position to Wind, Basic Jibe
  5. Kite Level 5: Going Upwind
  6. Kite Level 6: Basic Jumps and Carved Jibes, or Transition Jumps
  7. Kite Level 7: Rotation or Kiteloop, Grabs, One Foot, Board Off or Railey.

Thank you!!

late 30-early 40s Interested in kiteboarding- is it too late for women

First, I am 5.6 and have a BMI of 27, I Live on the East Coast of the USA.

For the curious, I mentioned my BMI, as I have recently been out of shape( my fault), also I believe small changes in BMI can affect the overall stamina of a body leading to sprains and features( which I want to minimize)I experienced the above as an Indian classical dancer, I am flexible but I am unable to do certain positions to perfection with the extra weight(my fault again, of gaining weight and not hitting the gym hard enough). Also, I was worried that I may not get a wet suit to fit my extra self in.

You guys have been beyond generous and encouraging

I love swimming and anything sea and a smaller community(compared to fishing, SCUBA etc) and Yippie!! I do not have to open my eyes underwater(the main reason, I dread SCUBA).

Of course, I am trying to lose weight and get my core fit.

How expensive of a hobby is this and how do I start(before getting a trainer)?

Questions will follow depending on the answers I get!

Kindly do guide me.

Moving to Hood River and Want to Get Into The Sport, I Have Some General Questions For a Beginner

  1. Man this sport is expensive to initially start. Should I rent equipment to start? Are used/second hand equipment big in this sport? What is a cheap set up for a beginner? What tips do you have to bring the price down?

  2. What type of lessons would you recommend to start? What level of intensity (week intensive vs. one day a week, etc.)?

  3. What is the season? Is a wet suit required year round (guessing likely so in the colombia)? Outside of that, what other wear (helmets, type of life vest) do people wear?

First harness. Need recommendations.

Hello everyone. My dad is a kiter and I decided to ask him to teach me the basics. I know that all his equipment was Mystic and in the last year he switched to Core. I want to buy a harness so that when training my father and I would have our own harnesses so that we could switch the kite from one to the other, and his harness is size L and I think mine is size S. Please advise which model and brand should I pay attention to? My father doesn't know much about brands and models, his coach always helped him and I know that he has a sitting type of harness with rings on his legs due to his body structure.

Returning to kiting. What’s new in gear from 10 years ago?

After over a decade away from the sport I recently moved to Central Florida and am looking to dive back in. Need to repurchase everything and looking for guidance on updates to brands/gear to help me head in the right direction.

Questions

  1. For kites. Brands/models to target or avoid for all around riding? Want to get the most bang for my buck with a quality value setup. Happy to spend on gear that will last over buying budget junk that won’t be usable after 1 season. I’m also not going to be a pro throwing massive airs or handle pass tricks so don’t need the latest top of the line premium gear. Are the following good brands/models to watch for? Any to add or avoid? Duotone evo or rebel Cabrihna switchblade or moto Slingshot ghost Core Nexus or XR Ozone enduro Naish pivot North Orbit or Reach

  2. Typical quiver used to be 2 kites. 8m or 9m and 12m. Does this still hold true? I’m 5’10” 170lb fit male. Does it make sense to get the same brand/model and one bar/lines that would fit both?

  3. For harness. Are waist harnesses still most common? Any other brands/models to watch for or avoid? Dakine Pyro Mystic Stealth Ride engine

  4. Where to shop? Online stores with good prices? Where to look for deals on previous year gear? Online forums to watch for used gear?

Thanks!

Surviving suit for kite boarding

Hi guys It might be a very silly question, but here it goes. I only kitesurf few times per year mostly in the North Sea UK in the wetsuit. However for winter I'm looking for Drysuits. However in my area there are lots of people working in off shore oil industry and they sell surviving suits. Would they be suitable for cold wintery weather? Thanks!

Learning to jump, what am I doing wrong?

Sub, could you please give me some feedback here? Ive been struggling to land my jumps… it seems like I take off and the kite just does not provide any float upon descend. Also, then trying to redirect the kite forward I get no pull at all leading to a sink landing… Seems to me im just doing a pendulum. I feel like im edging upwind ok (see water spray in video). In this session I tried to pull the bar as early as possible but that did not seem to work either. One thing I noticed towards the end of the session was that I had the bar out when initiating the jump rather than pulled in, edge/pull bar out, pop, pull bar in… When doing it like that I was starting to feel more of an upward lift and the kite did pull me forward when redirecting. In any case, any feedback would be appreciated, particularly on my theory above of not sending the kite with the bar pulled in. TIA.

Wingfoiling or Kitefoiling to go practice more often & alone?

I have started Kitesurfing with Twintip but live in central europe - so only access to a few lakes and the wind is neither constant often. The few times there are good wind predictions I don't always find a partner to join. I have a remote job - but kids - so I can adjust my schedule but will mostly be alone if I go there.

My thought are now maybe I can buy some other equipment to help me get out more often and go out alone:

- Wingfoil - less risky

- Kitefoil - low wind

or both?

What would better solve my issues? Can I buy a foil (looking at a 1150cm at the moment - 75kg) that I could potentially use for kite and wing foiling even if not optimal?

Remote places to Kitesurfing in Brazil

Hi all.

I learnt the basic of kitesurfing(going back and forth as well as going upwind) but I'd like to consolidate my riding and get better. I also need to get my IKO certification.

I have 9 days free at the end of November and planning to go to Brazil. From the research I've been doing it looks like Cumbuco might be a favorite for beginners.

However I'm wondering if anyone has recommendations for a spot a little less developed. I think I'm looking for something a little more remote, a little more wild but with a kite school :)

Foiling

Is there any foil on the market I could potentially use for both kitefoil and wingfoil? Assuming having to replace the front wing, but hopefully keeping the mast and fuselage. Thanks
