Dragon Ball is a Japanese media franchise created by Akira Toriyama in 1984. The initial manga, written and illustrated by Toriyama, was serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump from 1984 to 1995, with the 519 individual chapters collected into 42 tankōbon volumes by its publisher Shueisha.

This is random and I wasn't really sure where to mention it but I just had a thought rewatching a DBZ clip...
So, in the original "true" Timeline Goku should be dead from the heart virus.
If Goku is dead that would mean he never meets Zeno.
And Goku never gives him the idea for the Tournament.
So, if he didn't do that wasn't Zeno just going to erase all of the universes anyways? So, Bulma creating the Time Machine kind of saved all of the universes in existence...right?
Anyone else really enjoying the music used in the series? In episode 8, after Goku gets the three star dragon ball from Tamagami #3, there's a beautiful symphonic version of the opening, "Jaka Jaan" that plays for a minute or so. There's a few other good songs as well but I can't remember off the top of my head.
After watching episode 8, I was really motivated to find the music online, but it seems there isn't really any music on YouTube besides the regular opening. Does anyone know where to find some of the music? I feel like with other popular anime, I can usually find the music on YouTube or at least a recreation/cover. For Daima I can't seem to find anything.
When your gear either Gogeta or Vegito talk, which voice do you hear? For me, I hear Vegetas voice way more than Gokus but what do you hear more?
Out of all the movies this is the only one that almost fits. Timing wise , gohan unlocking ssj2 is the only throw off moment but what do you think?
I swear, she be using the all powerful Shenron for disrespectfully selfish wishes like minor plastic surgery. If she wants to be young and perky looking, she could just wish to be a Sayian. Sayians don't start Aging UNTIL 80 years old, meaning they could live anywhere from 160-200 years. If she wished to retroactively be a Sayian, she'd return to the way She did in Z when she secretly was hitting on her son lol. If she wanted to she could even become an android after that if she didn't want to train, she has scans of 16 and potentially 18. It would take like 3 days to figure out how to reverse engineer the Infinite energy engines, healing matrix, and can ask Whis to make her a bunch of Kachi-Katchin Steel to use on herself too.
I think a really interesting aspect on Goku's personality at least so far in Daima is that he knows he is the strongest person in the room even in a strange new land.
Goku is consistently confident in his own strength and continually uses just enough power to at least give the other person a fair fight with whoever he is fighting but also just enough for him to win.
He's in his base form against most mooks and taps into SSJ for just a moment to strut his stuff. Against Glorio he was confident in fighting him with just one arm in his base form and then Super Saiyan when Glorio began to get more serious just to show how far behind Glorio is. And against the Tanigama he was confident matching him with just his power pole and base form until he needed to tap into SSJ2.
Obviously Goku's confidence has a lot of backing to it since he defeated Majin Buu, the strongest being he's ever seen in the universe. However this behavior is also consistent with his first fight against Beerus in DBS/Battle of Gods. Against Beerus, Goku still has that confidence that he'll win that it nears even arrogance, even getting annoyed that Beerus thinks little of him during their first bout.
We've still yet to see how Daima develops, but so far I think it's interesting that they kept note of Goku's confidence that will eventually get shattered by Beerus.
Guys I would like to see Webfoot Technologies remake the Legacy of Goku triology. The first Legacy of Goku game needs the the most fixing. The playable characters can be Goku, Gohan, Krillin, Piccolo and Vegeta with Bardock being a unlockable character. The first Legacy of Goku game can include the first Dragonball Z movies Dead Zone, World's Strongest, Tree of Might and Lord Slug and the Bardock Special.
The Legacy of Goku II remake can have Gohan, Piccolo, Vegeta, Future Trunks and Goku as the playable characters just like the Original Legacy of Goku II. The unlockable characters can be Mr.Satan and Krillin. The Legacy of Goku II remake can include Cooler's Revenge, The Return of Cooler, Super Android 13!, Broly- The Legendary Super Saiyan, Bojack Unbound, The History of Trunks Special and Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans.
The Buu's Fury remake can have Goku, Gohan, Goten, Vegeta, Trunks as the playable characters just like the Original Buu's Fury. The unlockable characters can be Videl and Good Buu. The Buu's Fury remake can include Broly-Second Coming, Bio-Broly, Fusion Reborn, Wrath of the Dragon and Dragonball Yo Son Goku and his Friends Return!!
What do you guys think?
I started with Dragon Ball GT, I was probably 7 or 8. I was sick as a dog and stayed home for a few days and reruns of GT were airing.
DB is really big here in Portugal and anyone under the age of 40 probably knows the opening theme song lyrics of both Z and GT by heart!
I remember watching the Super 17 saga episodes and thinking DB was the coolest shit ever. Then I watched everything up until the end. Then I watched OGDB and finally DBZ.
Reruns of all the DB shows were super common here
I'd prefer to watch the series with Japanese audio for the most authentic experience, similar to how it aired in Japan. (And how the Japanese version is presented on Crunchyroll) I'm leaning towards the DBZ Blu-rays due to less censorship and, from what I've heard, better Japanese voice acting and music. However, I've also heard that Kai offers a more unfiltered picture quality, as well as the original 4:3 aspect ratio and the condensed content (removal of filler) sounds intriguing. Will the DBZ blu ray's wide screen aspect ratio and filtering ruin the OG Japanese experience? Does the Kai picture quality look more crispy unaltered or is it only a marginal difference?
I have a question, as we all know Dabura died at the hands of Majin Buu, but what happened to him after the Buu saga?, did he also revive or is he still dead? and if he is alive, what would he be doing now?
I'm not talking only about manga and anime, ok? I'm talking about games too.
Here are mine:
Many people hate GT with a fiery passion. But to me, it is completely unwarranted. Not everything is perfect in the story, but it has its great moments and Toriyama enjoyed it a lot. So much so, he took the idea of kid Goku and put it towards Diama.
The argument against it being Canon is, to me, the misunderstanding of Toriyama's words. Famously the show was called a "Grand Side Story". This definitively meant to some that it is an alternate universe at best, or just highbrow fanfiction. But not so fast.
1- Side story is largely a synonym for subplot by definition. Sub plot being not the main drive of the story but being a side story in a film or show. Toriyama viewed his own work as the main plot, the dragon ball manga which of course he does, and Super and GT as being smaller parts of the grand work.
2- In the Bonus Chapter, Trunks, the Story: The Lone warrior. It is literally called a side story next to the title. This doesn't make the chapter not canon, just a subplot within the main narrative. Not the main idea, but part of the official release.
3- In 2017 Shueisha made an official timeline for DBZ and GT was a part of it. Not an alternate timeline, but part of the main story. I know they did not create DBZ, but to have higher ups put this out proves it's validity.
4- Last, Toriyama called the movies taking place in a laterite timeline, but didn't say GT was as well. If it was to take place in a world like that, he would have said it. He never had a problem with speaking his mind and saying what works and what didn't for him.
I know a lot of people won't like this post but let me know what you think if you agree or disagree and why. But always remember to that this a work of fiction. If you want to head canon something, you can. Just enjoy the Dragon World.
Thank you.
As some who has studied storytelling for years and is a fan of Dragon Ball, I've wanted to talk about some of the recurring themes in Dragon Ball for a while.
One of the big ones I wanted to start with is a theme that defines an important aspect of Goku's character that I feel some fans don't appreciate: Goku's ability to turn his enemies into allies, and sometimes even friends.
This them literally goes all the way back to the first arc of Dragon Ball. Throughout Goku and Bulma's journey that meet several characters who start as antagonists but eventually befriend them, notable Oolong, Yamcha, and Puar.
This pattern of antagonists joining the heroes occurs in almost every arc of the manga:
Pilaf Arc - Oolong, Yamcha, Puar
21st Tenkaichi Budokai - Krillin (rival turned best friend)
Red Ribbon - Android 8 (assigned to fight Goku, but befriends him instead when Goku saves him from General White)
22nd Tenkaichi Budokai/Piccolo - This is Tien's redemption arc
Saiyan - Piccolo (via Gohan)
Frieza/Cell/Buu - Vegeta's slow redemption arc
Cell - 16, 17 and 18; notable 16 forgoes his programming to destroy Goku in order to make an effort to save Gohan from Cell.
Buu - Buu himself via Hercule/Mr. Satan
Even Super continues this trend with Beerus in BoG, Hit in U6 arc, the Pilaf Gang, Jiren in ToP, Frieza (kind of?) in ToP, Granolah in his own arc.
And fittingly, the last chapters that Toriyama touched had Magenta comedically forgo his evil ways after seeing the bizarreness of Goku and his friends on Beerus' planet.
This recurring bit generally arises from the kindness and purity of Goku (and Gohan.) He can't help but win people over. That's a part of Goku's character I enjoy most and I like seeing him give his opponents a chance to become friends in the future.
I could write a full essay about this, but let's open this up as a discussion. Let me know if you think I missed anyone else who was won over by the heroes.
Without her, Goku himself wouldn’t exist! How do you think this would have changed the Saiyan saga, the fate of Earth, and the entire storyline of Dragon Ball? Would someone else have risen to fill Goku's role, or would the universe have taken a completely different path?
Rewatching the Cell saga and I noticed the arm that future Gohan is missing is the same one Teen Gohan gets injured fighting Perfect Cell. Seems Gohan is destined to have issues with this arm in all timelines? 🤔 this may just be his cannon event lol
So we get introduce to Cell and he has to be cunning to flee from Piccolo because Piccolo straight up outclasses him. Piccolo could kill Cell right then and there.
We don’t get much scenes of Cell between then and him showing up when Piccolo and #17 are fighting but suddenly Piccolo is shaking in his lil Namekian boots when Cell reappears. It’s not like Cell had a small increase but a MASSIVE one to get Piccolo frozen in place and him thinking running is the only was for #17 to survive.
And how did he get so strong in so little time? Just by absorbing more base level humans and that’s simple absurd. It’s not like him and Piccolo were even relative in Power during their first meeting, Piccolo dominated him, so this isn’t a small increase.
We can’t even use the excuse that Piccolo was weakened from fighting #17 because even then that means #17 who was pretty much equal to Piccolo and can’t get exhausted would’ve dog walked Cell.
Cell’s power up here is absurd, makes no sense and pretty much only exists to rush him into absorbing #17.
For years I avoided Dragon Ball GT like the plague because of its infamous reputation among DB fans, but recently I found myself enjoying Daima a lot (even the “slow” episodes as they’ve been called) and I noticed the criticisms of Daima sounded eerily similar to the criticisms of GT. Since I like Daima I finally decided to give GT a chance and… I love it! Seeing the characters age, going on adventures with mini Goku, the amazing villains, the creativity - it’s all so ahead of its time and incredible.
I’m 26 episodes in and I’ve been waiting for it to get bad, but it just keeps getting better. Who knows, maybe I’ll change my mind if something drastic changes, but so far I really don’t understand all the hate. Have opinions changed on GT? Is it redeemed now? I feel like it should be. My only complaint is that most of the music, at least for the English version, is lackluster. If it had better music, the epic moments would hit much harder. It would be close to god tier. This is a great show!
Imagine they would introduce SS4 again, just as they did with Brolys Legendary Super Saiyan Form, but they need a new name. "Beast" is already taken, so what would be the new name for it?
Why don't they fly and support the ship from the inside before it crashes and blows up?
This is a genuine question. The Saiyans that killed the Tuffles are all LONG gone. Why is he taking revenge on a group that didn't even KNOW about the Tuffles, like they're the ones to kill his species?
Why is there two versions of resurrection f and two versions of how beerus meets goku?
In which fight the difference in power was more large between namek ssj goku and 100% frieza(in favor of goku)or between ssj2 gohan and super perfect cell(in favor of gohan)? What do you think?
I’m aware this film is bad, but I’m still going to watch it regardless. I’m currently finishing up OG Dragon ball and should be moving on to Z soon. With that said, should I watch it before of after Z?
I mean. Frieza, Vegeta, and the Ginyu force all used it.
I was thinking about this since he is control of so many people would that technically mean he could split himself to control 2 people and have numbers advantage with 2 identical minds fighting in sync I feel it could work but maybe his abilities don't allow for that
because think about it, super saiyan four had black hair despite every super saiyan form having gold hair
super saiyan god is basically a base form so it'd make sense that super saiyan 'blue' 4 would have the same colored hair
Personally, I feel like it was heavily rushed and makes no sense. One moment we see Red, and we blinked to see Blue. I loved the red haired god form but holy cow was I extremely unsatisfied when Blue came out. Every scene with red had Goku get BODIED or was simply being undermined. Reminds me of Super saiyan 3 where we barely see it in action but is just a pocketed form to let the viewer / reader see how overwhelmingly powerful an opponent is.
Why did Dr. Arinsu wait a full year before attempting to create a new Majin Buu in Dragon Ball Daima?
In the Majin Buu saga of Dragon Ball Z, Trunks is 8 and Goten is 7 during the World Martial Arts Tournament, which places the events of Dragon Ball Z around the year 774. In Dragon Ball Daima, Trunks is celebrating his 9th birthday, which places the current events in the year 775. Dr. Arinsu and Marbah mention that their last attempt to create a stronger Majin Buu failed and that the Buu they created was "too weak." Since this failed creation likely happened more than a year ago, why did Arinsu wait so long before attempting again? Dabura perished at the hands of Majin Buu in Dragon Ball Z, so what caused the delay in Arinsu’s plan to create a new Buu?
I’m a manga guy. I simply enjoy reading manga over watching anime especially when it comes to repeat consumptions of a media.
So it really pains me that the Super Manga is so heavily reliant on the movies to tell it’s story. The Battle of Gods arc is only five chapters long and is pretty much spark notes, Resurrection F is non existent despite being one of the most important arcs in hindsight, and the Broly Movie is told in scattered fragments.
Real annoying when I want to do a full read through and I’m reminded of these missing parts of the story. Especially with how seemless the translation from the Moro to Granolah arc is.
Like yeah I get it. At the start it was just promotional but even by the Universe 6 arc it was already it’s own thing and not just a direct one to one from the anime. Shame that the format is so wonky, makes it hard to recommend, so I do hope that maybe eventually those arcs can be properly fleshed out and told in the manga. Atleast get Resurrection F partial in there, the jump is so jarring.
I hear a lot of people spread this around that DB was meant to end after namek and was continued due to demand.
I think it would be a good end because I think namek was a great arc and the first super saiyan will always be special. Goku defeating frieza and becoming the strongest in the universe would be a good end.
But there’s a lot of great stuff after namek too. I enjoy the cell and buu saga too. Future trunks entrance alone is enough for me to say the continuation was a good decision.
Without the continuation I don’t think dragon ball would be the cultures titan it is today. The longevity of the series played a big part of that.
